My white artisan deck had a miscut card.

This is only the second time this has ever happened in all my years of card collecting, I hope theory11 will make good.

I know what you mean.

When I first started to collect seriously (1980s-1990s), I very much wanted some way I could show off at least some of my favorite decks from my collection.

I looked into dispplay cases, frames of all sorts, and finally bought some albums designed to showcase sports card collections.

They were...okay, but weren't as..."classy" a solution as I had hoped for. Plus, well, they just weren't the solution for me, I guess.

I've told this story before, but here goes again:

I found acrylic frames meant for displaying sports cards, and bought five of them, each of which held four cards.

Every weekend, I would choose from my collection a deck I wanted to display that week.

Into each of four of the acrylic frames I would place the Jack, Queen, King & Ace of a suit from the deck.

In the fifth frame I would place a Joker from the deck and a card back, and any two other cards I felt appropriate (such as a Title card, a Gaffe card, etc).

Come Monday morning I took, the five frames into my work and hung them in my cubcle.

I would also broadcast an email to my whole department. In it I gave some infprmation about that week's deck (When & where it had been published, etcetera), and many people would come to my cubicle to take a look at the cards! My co-workers started referring to my cubicle as my "art gallery", and I started referring to it in my weekly emails as "The Bob Lancaster Gallery of Unusual Playing Cards".

This went on for month after month until I left that company. I missed sharing my collection with people!

This was in 1996. I had just started using this new "Internet", and got the idea "What if I created one of these "web site things", where I could share images from my collection with the world?!"

I learned some rudimentary HTML (This was before Blogs and such), and soon had a small web site (named "The Bob Lancaster Gallery of Unusual "Playing Cards", after my cubicle display at my previous job!)

And, for the twelve years that it was a going concern (1996-2008), THAT was how I displayed my collection!

I hope one day to revive the BLGUPC on the web in some way, shape or form.

Interesting, sms, thanks for sharing the images!

I don't recognize either, can you tell me their names/publishers?

A closeup of some courts from each would be great, too (while I'm asking.

Really impressed by the quality of the deck, the cards are stiff but yet very springy, I love it !

Here are two miniature decks I recently added to my collection via eBay:

==========[ PeanutsMiniature_12 ]==========

==========[ PeanutsMiniature_13 ]==========
Image

These are two decks in a series published by Hallmark (the Greeting Card company) circa 1968.

All decks in the series have the same Peanuts-character-based courts, aces and jokers, differing only in the image on the card back.

The tuck boxes for the various decks in the series differ from those of others in the series only in that they have images of the deck's back design on one side of the box, and in that the color scheme on the other side of the box matches that of the card back.

These make thirteen decks from this series I now have in my collection.

I have them, despite their similarities, because I have a soft spot in my heart for these decks, since one of them was the very first deck with custom courts I ever owned (purchased in 1968, when I was ten years old), and started me on this obsession with custom decks.

Hey all, I'm kinda new here but thought I'd go ahead and share what I got today. Received the 2008 Election cards in the mail and found the Nautic Backs & Robocycle cards at my local Walmart today.

I purchased this recently on eBay, thinking it was yet another in the series of "Peanuts Miniatures" I have collected.

==========[ PeanutsMiniature_14 ]==========
Image

Although of the same size, it is NOT one in that series.

Although the courts feature Linus/Lucy/CharlieBrowne, and the Jokers and Aces feature Snoopy (as do the decks in the series), the courts in THIS deck are not garbed & posed like standard courts, but are instead simply garbed and posed as they would be in the Peanuts comic strip.

The jokers, rather than having Snoopy juggling balls (and Woodstock!), simply have Snoopy dealing from a deck of cards.

The deck is evidently far more recently published as well: The decks in the series were published circa 1968. This deck, having an Advertising card promoting USPCC's web site, is evidently from the late1990s at the oldest.

I got these decks in London about a week ago. The guy at Davenports even gave me a free wristband! (I knew already knew about the case)

So I added some Skull & Bones Decks to my collection. I bought them through Dan & Dave. When I opened up one of the Black Air-Cushioned decks I found some interesting packaging. It had all of the hearts, spades and diamonds, but it only had the 7-K of clubs and an additional A-6 of spades. It was missing both Jokers and had these two additional cards:

I've sent a note to Dan & Dave, not sure if I have to contact CARC as well. Anybody else ever seen this?

Got in three packages today, the new Speakeasy deck from Bicycle (along with a few others that I hadn't purchased before, nothing special), some Bicycle Seconds and an old deck of Piatniks off Ebay came in. The Speakeasy cards themselves I'm not too impressed with, but I really like the tuck with the metallic embossed lettering on the front and the simply elegant artwork. I like them more than the cigar ones but my favorite club 808 deck so far is still the Griffin deck. The deck of seconds that I opened are pretty cool, on some of the red cars the left half of the card didn't print correctly, as if there wasn't enough ink on the plate so one half appears faded while the other half of the card is fine. The Piatnik deck is very nice, but only 2 issues. 1, no box. 2, it came from a smoker's house. Nothing against smokers, I used to be one and I'm all for smoker's rights, but my God does that deck smell.

Anyways, please excuse the iPhone pics:

Image

Even though they smell bad, I absolutely love this artwork. The Ace of hearts has a tax stamp on it, though it's far from legible. Pretty much just a blue smudge now.

I have three versions of that deck now. One is a super dirty one with no white bits whatsoever that looks like your box layout (except dirtier) and has the bar code on the bottom. One is the Canadian version with French on the box and the barcode on the back but with the same aging level as yours. The last is the "Heritage" edition, which is cleaner with unconvincing wear on standard bicycle faces. More repetition on the wear marks there and the backs are a rather ugly greenish brown rather than the red brown of the first 2.

Do you think they will eventually make an actual Expert Back and call it "Old Fan"?
