We've pledged for one Gilded, yes. But what about (a) second Gilded?

The fok! Don't do that to me Tom!
I was considering getting a second gilded one, as I really enjoy playing with the gilded Astra Polaris since it arrived, but then decided to stay moderate and reasonable.

Especially when I'm trying to grab that Lego Vonreg's Interceptor.

I might get 1/1 when the foiled version gets release as part of the stretch goal. Hope that is still happening.

Won't be a stretch goal, the second deck will instead be available at some point in the future

Yeah, bummer.. I just caught up on that thread and saw you post from his Discord and Jackson's note as well. Such a bummer... I was super excited to back that lol

Sheesh, now that Gandalf has mentioned Discord, has anyone considered making a Discord server for UC? I already chat with almost everyone I know in a channel of some subject on the app.

Progress? At UC? I'm glad we don't use homing pigeons anymore.

I just think it would be somewhat fun to have ongoing chats with all/most of the UC regulars. It could invigorate my interest in the hobby, and we could all get to know one another better. I never got the opportunity to meet anyone at conventions or anything. I know that it might be just as much work (if not more) as administrating or moderating the site, but maybe someone in charge is up to the task? Idk, just spitballing.

Ditto.

I thought we had a chat here (at least at one time) that no one used - not sure why, but perhaps it just needed a more prominent link….

This thread just hit a quarter million views by the way - congrats :)

Said chat was dead going back to when I signed up. Seemed no one used it, but it wasn't really featured either.

Discord is quite a great chat app. I'm on a server with my main gaming buddies (NHL, COD), an MtG server, an Among Us server, a firearm enthusiast server, etc. You create channels within a server to spread out discussion. For example, in the server I created, we have: General, Games, Music, Humor, Hockey, NSFW, and Stocks. It helps keeps discussion organized. I have been in servers with dozens of channels, though I think that more than 20 is typically overkill (depending on the server size and subject).

I think that the work would be worth the reward.

How do you create a Discord server? Are fees involved? (I have to assume they are....)

I think it'd be better for anyone here interested in Discord to just join the /r/playingcards Discord server rather than make yet another and further split the community  KWP, OPC, /r/cardistry, and SoCal Playing Cards all already have their own servers too...

Discord is free. You can pay for Nitro or to Boost servers, but the basic chat features on the platform are all free.

r/PlayingCards is just such a boring place. There's more activity here, so that's why I brought it up. I guess if one already exists for playing cards, though, then maybe I should join it.

The thought of a unified community is kinda utopian. People are different. Some prefer UC, some instagram, some reddit 🤷🏿‍♀️. Nothing bad about this imo.

Yeah, I think those at UC prefer this as a platform (that's certainly the case for yours truly), so I don't think trying to establish the same community on a different platform would work.

I'm on a few Discord servers (not playing card related ones), but I don't really use it actively because I don't like the infinite scrolling chat format. I'm really only there to get important announcements/news on whatever it is I'm interested in.

I meant it more as opposed to hsbc when he wrote we don't need another Discord in the playing card community.
I get it that it is kinda nasty to stay updated if news get spread on a myriad of channels but yah, I'm in the the mere the better camp.
So what I wanted to express was, that no community of the aforementioned like SoCal, KWP, reddit would bring me to Discord but for a UC Discord channel I would give it a try. UC is a forum, Discord is for chatting.

Discord would probably just replace this sub-forum, in all likelihood, if anything at all. It's not the place for announcements like new decks, and the sub-forum for that here is the best format for such things anyways.

I don't know why I've refused to share this here. I guess it simply hurts every time that I think about it, let alone say/type it.

I found Sunny passed away last Thursday afternoon. It was not out of the blue. She had lost a lot of her mobility a couple years ago, and about a month ago she lost the ability to jump altogether, basically. She stopped cleaning her fur in areas closer to her head, such as the sides of her chest, as she likely couldn't move her head/neck that close anymore. She was privately cremated on Friday, and delivered to me on Saturday.

Imagine a reasonably-perfect cat. Sunny was even better than one could imagine.

R.I.P. Sunny

She'll be forever missed.

Well, today is the least I have cried in a week, so maybe I am healing.

I'm still contemplating whether or not to adopt a new 'friend' for Mjolnir. I use that term lightly, because she never reciprocated Sunny's interest in bonding.

Do I keep the status quo, and leave Mjolnir by herself for 9 hours, 3 days a week? Then adopt kittens when the awful day comes that she is no longer with me?
Or do I look for a kitten when I exit this near-crippling depression?

I think that part of the problem with their relationship was that I couldn't reasonably keep Mjolnir alone in my room beyond a week, as Sunny was accustomed to sleeping between my chest and arm. I had to integrate her into my home earlier than suggested. That could have also been a non-factor, though, and Mjolnir is just a jackass.  That being said, Mjolnir has not been sleeping in my room lately. :( :( If she remains distanced at night for a bit, maybe it could be the perfect time to adopt?

I'm just remembering my experience with Sammy and Mugsy. The reason that we adopted Sunny was because Mugsy seemed depressed after Sammy passed away. Sunny was actually born on the day that Sammy passed, too. Even if Mjolnir did not really love Sunny, she spent every day of the last 8 years having a companion.

If you guys have suggestions, let me know. I'm just trying to figure out where to go from here. One concern that I have thought about recently is, if I wait to adopt siblings down the road, (presumably) losing both of them in a close time-frame would be even more emotionally devastating than last Thursday was.

I had always kinda planned to adopt a toyger when the awful day came that Sunny was gone, but it's no longer so cut-and-dry as when things were well. I am very honestly looking for your guys' opinions here, if you're willing to offer it.

It gets easier with time, even though it probably doesn't seem like it. When you're ready I'd definitely get either 1 or 2 kittens and start the next kitty generation

As a dog lover I can say that the pain is inseparable from the experience of owning a pet. Cats live longer than dogs but people live far longer than both. It is hard when they pass - but if we don’t take them in and give them a good home we not only miss out on the wonderful times that brings, but we rob them of the same. Be strong, they don’t mind living a long happy life with us, and they thank us for taking on the task.

I'd say the right time to get a new feline compagnion is when you're not looking to replace the loss but are ready for a new chapter.

Sunny could never be replaced. I've just been trying to think of what could be best for Mjolnir going forward. It's not a decision that I want to make hastily. I won't be ready for a few weeks, at best.
