Bob and Charlie can complete the same job in 4 hours.

How long will the job take if Alice, Bob, and Charlie work together?

Assume each person works at a constant rate, whether working alone or working with others.

Almost as long as it took me to solve the riddle = 111 minutes.

They clearly distract each other at different rates, so doing so all at the same time means that they'll need 4-1/2 hours to complete a job together.

I'm surprised to see you as part of the there-is-no-wrong-result-math crowd.

It's unclear to me whether or not this is A + B + C = Time, or Handicap - A - B - C.

The question fails to mention cultural context, work environment, nature of the task, and of course dynamics between the three which will impact upon any potential diminishing margin return of effort and task completion rate. Also, bearing in mind systems theory, which posits that synergistically the whole is different to the sum of the parts (a la Gestalt and Field Theory) then one cannot existentially (I.e. phenomenologically rather than intellectually) accurately predict the length the job will take. People are fickle beings, easily distracted and prone to acting impulsively and excitedly.

I say it takes as long as it takes and/or perhaps it just all goes to shit when they get together and find out that they’ve been cheating on each other with the other one, and the job does certainly not get done. Also we all know Alice is working harder than Bob. Always. Feckin’ Bob.
