Then maybe he shouldn't have made it so limited. They still would have sold out and would still be just as valuable had he done 2500 instead of 1000, because it's Jackson Robinson. Oh well.

I entertained the idea of doing display decks this time around but they wouldn't be at the normal $8-$10 price range that everyone is used to. I don't even really do display decks like I used to I just do a more less expensive version as the top of the line version.

If I were to do a larger run version the retail would still be around $17-$20. The metal luxe is just so Damn expensive. If you're ok with that model I'll put the idea back I the table, but no promises for sure ;)

Sounds like a perfect chance to do an MPC run. :)

Well this deck would be doing just as good without the damn expensive metalluxe. How about more pictures?

I'd pay $17-$20 for a display or two... I'm pumped about the whole project, Jackson. Metal luxe is so sick! Can't wait to see some more pics of the courts and such. I'm sure they will be amazing as always! Great job!

What about a supercheap version without matal luxe? Maybe for a change, premium tuck (with some indication) but standard cards. That could lower the price. It's not the same advantage to open the pack, but still nice to enjoy the art.

... on the outside looking in. I'm not angry for missing out on this, being about 2 hours late to launch - but I am certainly annoyed.

Super limited, with such a narrow window of purchase?

You've created a situation of haves and have-nots -- 350 people don't care that it was such a tiny window and probably reply that "it's all my fault". How many others went onto that page and thought darker thoughts?

Regardless of leaving money on the table - you're leaving would-be collectors out of luck, encouraging price gouging after delivery.

Heck, maybe I'm the only one left out -- but I hope you have a better plan than doing nothing.

We've created this monster. Now we have to deal with it.

Projects aren't funding if they just "stick to basics". Just look at how Randy was forced to include a limited edition in the relaunch to drive the project home. Same with Buskers and many others. We keep complaining that things are too expensive and artificial limited yet the numbers don't lie. We love the idea of "investing" in cards or holding on to something "rare".

It's been said time and time again that we should vote with our wallets. I don't think the decision can be any clearer.
We've lost the option to blame the creators anymore when they cater to our willingness to overspend.

I am happy that Jackson is willing to consider making display decks (or a less expensive version).

$17 is not cheap I agree. But metal luxe is at that price range. The in-house Bicycle Metal Luxe (Crimson / Cobalt) are listing at $20.

This deck is designed originally in metal luxe. My vote is to do the display decks in metal luxe. I think it would be less meaningful if everyone plays on a dummy deck which is not metal luxe (although it cost $8, much cheaper) while keeps his/her limited edition metal luxe deck sealed as collection.

And I think this is a chance to test the market (although the population is small). How many people actually are willing to pay $17 for a metal luxe deck playing on hands?
If 340 backers willing to pay at least $27 per deck and filled up the whole project within 2 hours, but only few of them willing to pay $17 on a display deck to play on hands, then probably it would be an indicator for how to run similar metal luxe projects in future.

I say no display decks, want to open a deck, then open it, if not then don't.

I want to hide the project, I keep clicking on Kickstarter foolishly thinking someone might have dropped a pledge, and then forcing a bitterness down.

I don't think anyone will give up there pledge after seeing how fast everything went. I think you'd be crazy to do so, but you never know, I've seen it happen moments before the project ends. Some just pledge just to pledge, but have no intention on committing to the project and cancel last minute or second depending on the person

Keep checking though, I wish you luck and many others... :)

The concept of a $17 metaLuxe display deck is a bit odd, but in an interesting way. The display decks were originally meant to be a cheaper deck which could be used without concerns of the 'collect-ability' of the item. Not sure that a $17-20 price is really within this range, but if Jackson wants to give it a go.... I'm just not sure how many are going to sell at that price.

I do like the white back deck PrincessTrouble showed, really does look the part and could be produced quite cheaply (I'd imagine). I guess the underlying issue is how many would sell, considering it'd need to be at least a 1,000 deck run (possibly more).
chunksmyhero wrote:Unless you're planning on selling the decks --- How does it benefit you to have him release fewer?
To get what you've been sold? That is, a 1 in 1,000 deck?

I get that you're miffed that you (unfortunately) missed out, but this is a long running issue with small print runs, inevitably some will miss out, which makes the finished items collectible. If every deck were readily available in effectively unlimited numbers why would anyone do anything other than pay a small sum for the 1 deck they would like now?

Vic, you made your point. Let's not let things get personal, whether or not that was your intent.

I will not tolerate flame wars here. It's Jackson's project, he can run it any damn way he pleases. As Eoghann points out, we vote with our wallets.

Oh, I get it the principles of economics here. I don't like that I'm left out, so I'll exercise my only options - express my opinion, "of 1000" vs "of 1500" does not really matter a whole hill of beans, and I will as Eoghann said - do my best to vote with my wallet. That is, pledge if more are made available - or consider Emerald my last installment, perhaps of all - because I don't want to be a clamoring mob trying to elbow people out of my way.

Maybe his next should be "of 500" because then you will have ... a .. something really ... elite and private that you can miser over. or "of 50" because why not?

And Mike, I'm not meaning to flame Jackson at all here, he is of course welcome to run this show however he wants. Probably worthwhile to know how some of his previous supporters feel left in the lurch though for future campaigns even if this isn't going to be fixed.

I too am on the outside looking in but I am not letting it get me down. I have had to come to the realization that I will not get every deck I want. That's what my trade list and white whale lists are for. As my Grandma was fond of saying.... "spit happens".

I am just going to do the same thing you are doing. Wait, watch and hope someone drops a pledge. If not, that's life.

As for display decks I like the idea and would rather have a Metaluxe deck for a bit more as others have stated.

Interesting - there's 340 Pledge Tiers and 347 backers. I assume there's 7 backers hanging around to jump on a tier if one opens, or just pledging to "support."

Damn!! I just wrote a long-winded response to this & then my PC froze & I lost it all

Not going to re-write it all but to summarise:

1) $27 + Shipping (plus any import tax incurred) is too expensive for international backers to pledge for single deck tiers so YES, I do tend to buy more decks & sell the additional.

2) Getting sick of pledging $$$$ for 'rare / limited' decks which then end up being readily available.

3) What difference would there be REALLY between the official version and display decks with Metaluxe backs?

4) My priorities are spot on. After all I was ready & waiting at time of launch to get the tier I wanted.

P.S Jackson, Just read update #2 and I must commend you on your decision not to release display decks this time around particularly Metaluxe backed ones. Finally, a project that will deliver exactly what was stated originally in the campaign.

That's all for now folks :D

Alright guys, let's keep things in check.

Chunk, I understand you're frustrated that you missed out. But directing that bitterness towards backers who pledged on time (regardless of their intentions) just won't do. The fault squarely falls on you or anyone else who misses out for whatever reason. It's your responsibility to remember when something will launch, to be there on time, make sure you are signed in to Kickstarter, make sure you have a fast computer/device, a reliable internet connection.

I can guarantee you that every single user or backer has been in the same situation at some point (well, maybe not Pierre but he's above the mortal plane so he doesn't count.)

So as Jackson has stated, remain hopeful and keep an eye on the project, you might be able to squeeze in.

Enough sniping - please?!?

These always have sold like wildfire. You can never please everyone, no matter what you do.

Just watch closely, as Jackson has noted - at least eight decks have changed hands in the last 24 hours.

Let Jackson have his thread back, please... We here at UC have an advantage over everyone else as it is.
