Wait, where is the walnut coming from? You've shared a picture of the regular plastic X2 Carat Case with coin? Doesn't really matter for me either though. Even with an industrial manufactured wood case it wouldn't break my personal $100 barrier. But as I've written before - no knock on your asking price. It's just that it doesn't suit my personal fancy.

Lol... I wouldn't touch that set with a ten foot pole even if it was offered for $20.
double_left wrote: Wed Jan 18, 2023 3:54 pm in all fairness, theory11 is an established brand
So is TGW. Theory11 is a whack brands that cooks all of their decks with the same boring recipe. They used to be at the forefront of custom playing cards but all that comes from them nowadays is average at best. TGW on a bad day is superior to the best TXI releases lmao.

From theory11 product page:
The box set contains four total decks: two green and two gold.

That is absolutely fair.

Evidently, the middle row has two decks stacked on top of each other. Odd choice. Regardless, neither deck has gilding, and the carat case will be walnut treated with linseed oil--like Lorenzo's patreon case. ANd of course no coin is included on T11's set.

My point was to illustrate that production costs have steadily gone up to the point where even 'established' brands like T11 who up until recently were the kings of 9.95 price points have begun changing their sales methods. In the end the T11 decks are also printed in ENORMOUS print runs. 1000 is a drop in the bucket to them in terms of edition size. But also I believe that 1000 collectors will be interested in these sets. Especially as subsequent ones are released and collectors find themselves hunting previous editions.

The goal kevin has set for the CAP brand is 4 deck projects a year (2 colorways each) all come in the walnut case with the deck specific coin. There will be a 3rd variant of each deck realease as a 4-deck anniversary edition. The plan is for 3 years and 12 decks. He's already completed the Villa Beluno deck (the 2nd in the CAP brand --i previewed it in another thread) and 2 more decks are already in development.

To be fair, I think we can all agree that the LotR box set is for mega fans and suckers. Awful deal IMO lol

What if someone doesn't want the case and coin? Just curious.

We don't currently have plans of offering the decks sans case/coin. Think of the CAP project as you might a patreon. At the end of the year you will have exlcusive limited 8 decks (4 pairs) with corresponding numbered wooden cases with coins and to folks who order all four prjects a year we will have a special gift.

Hmm, put that way, it's similarly priced to the base Thirdway Patreon and a similar amount of decks/rewards. Hmm. That changes my perspective on it a bit. Any hints at what the special gift would be?

Yeah, this is the idea. Myself (as TGW) want to keep KS for the tentpole releases (i.e. Beetlebacks). These smaller exclusive projects we are taking off KS so we can save the 10% KS takes--also they will fulfill more quickly because the scope is limited (carat cases, cards, coins only)...no bricks, no heavy boxes, only 2 editions rather than 5-7 etc. We have toyed with the possibility of doing it as a subscription model. In fact I'm curious to see what people say. It would be about $35 a month with release announcements coming every 3 months or so with fulfillment 3 months after that. This covers shipping and the free gift at years end (likely a special edition deck or two).

I too would prefer the subscription option, especially for those of us who want the complete series. Less pain for the ol' wallet and it feels more like I'm supporting the team behind the projects (Omar/Kevin).

Party-pooper #1 over here! I'm definitely a fan, but not to the extent that I would trust each design to fit my aesthetic. As such, here's a vote for the "individual buy" option, or at least to have said option available alongside the subscription :)

I think this would be the ideal approach. We see it with Patreon too. Many people will buy decks from designers without subscribing to them.

Seeing my ages old T11 Artisan wood box set, I kinda expect more from a wood box set coming out in 2023 (and onward).

Perhaps something in sterling silver with a mechanical bird that pops up and sings? Might push up the price point…

I do remember his last campaign having a pretty fancy box - I would say this one deserves the full Monty - but can I afford to go the show if it gets it?

(I’m sorry - I stand corrected - its the other fancy deck that TGW is doing that deserves this box - you know the one I mean…)

I'm not asking for a second Succesor, hahaha. It just looks too plain for my taste. That's all. Doesn't reflect the attention the cards got imho.

P.S.: And yes, the Corrupted deck should get a crazy box like the one you've posted 😝🤟🏿.

I have seen 2 of these mechanical birds sell for $500,000 each at Sothehbys in Manhattan 🤑

I've had my fill of really elaborate boxes for a little while. I'm extremely proud of what we accomplished with the Successor box HOWEVER it was a lot of work and worry to get it there. So a simple high quality carat case will be just what the doctor ordered for the CAP series. Besides we wanted to keep costs down.
