That's why China will be numbero uno. They never gave a shit about copyright - rightfully so. Although... they have a problem with Winnie the Pooh as well - ironic.

That upcoming Sterling deck looks phenomenal. But, I just received the Count of Monte Cristo deck and while the tuck is nice enough, the courts....kinda really suck. What does everyone else think of them?

I don't have it hand since KWP is pretty much out of my focus with their current pricing+taxes+international shipping so grain of salt advised but I actually like what the pictures show, in regards to the courts. I like the route Jackson went with the style - nothing mindblowing but well done and I especially like the spades where the characters are fused. The diamonds and hearts are a unfortunate with too much white space though, that's for certain. What makes this deck go straight to my nope pile (besides aforementioned price) is the tuck box - which is still on the okay-ish level - and the back design. Feels like a disconnect from the courts.

I was actually really hyped for this deck back when he had only made the KoS (The Count). That is a really dope card. The amount of detail really shines with the art style. A lot of the other cards are just to simple for my taste though. I like the style, but yeah there are a lot of simple illustrations surrounded by lots of white space.

The tucks and back are pretty cool, personally.

Yeah, that sums up pretty well the issues I have with it. The KoS is a nice card but most of the rest of the courts are lacking detail and look very plain, uninspired, and unfinished in that art style. The layout and all the whitespace do them no favors also. I like the pips, number cards, backs, and tuck. But a lot of the courts look like a first draft.

I just received my Count of Monte Cristo deck from KWP today. I am fine with the deck. I like the custom courts, and frankly custom everything. It may not be the best design I have seen come out of KWP, but it is solid. I am just glad that the No. 13 Club are all going to be new designs and not refreshed versions of older designs or slightly modified standard courts. I think this is taking it back to its roots and intentions which was to experiment with design and style.

If I had any complaint it would be that I really like the tucks he used to get from Clove Street. I really wish he would use them again. I am getting spoiled by the tucks coming out of Boschiero & Newton, so that is my new standard of excellence (excepting Lotrek).

I was also pleased with the handling of the cards. I understand he isn't using USPCC, and I was expecting a disappointing card stock. It was surprisingly good to my untrained hands.

Hey Brad, Thanks for the kind words. The Count of Monte Cristo was actually printed by USPCC.

Nope, same thing with that new Peter pirate deck. If it don't say USPCC then they probably outsourced it. In that case they won't be telling who printed it.

That was too funny. I didn't see printed by USPCC on the tuck, which was why I was assuming it was printed by another printer. I must have missed it.

BTW, I have noticed on my opened Robin Hood deck that on some of the cards, even by only lightly handling them, that ink is coming off leaving the foil underneath. I don't know if you have observed the same thing, but they are not holding up to even light use. Of course lots of things melt down here. :ugthink:

He's releasing a holographic Chinese Legal Tender early next year. It's slated as the April subscription deck.

I am not sure who all has a gilded 13 Club subscription, but I had a very pleasant surprise today:

I will agree with others that Sterling is a hit. I love the wooden box too. This might be a gilded deck to pick up if any extras come on sale.

Supposedly the leftover gilded versions will be part of their 12 days of Christmas sale.

If I get that gilded deck, I'm going to want the Legacy Legal Tender and Legacy Chinese version too. I don't think I can do that to myself, so I'll stick with the standard Sterling. Amazing that it came in that wooden box nonetheless.

Overall these are quite nice - especially the backs - but once again the mystery PRC printer has a cupping deck :( I'm also not a huge fan of the cartoon-ish style of the courts but it's well-done :D

Wonder what this would've been like if the art was done in a similar design but as stained glass. It would've fit much better, I think.

Mine arrived today too. I really like these. I think he makes the cartoonish style work pretty well here. Though I agree that it might have been heightened by a more "serious" or realistic style. The handling on these isn't the best of the mystery printer decks ( Sterling so far, which handles decently), but not the worst either ( Mistborn, which handles like silly puddy). hsbc, what did you mean by cupping?
