Re: USPCC NFT
NFTs have actually been around for a long time we just didn't call them NFTs. I remember when people were mining and selling treasures on World of Warcraft and Diable 20 years ago. Same old thing new name. There is someone out there that will buy anything and the is someone out there that will sell anything. More power to them. Might as well get use to it, they aren't going anywhere any time soon cuz they have already have been here for years just a different form of currency to pay for them.

Re: USPCC NFT
i have thought of this analogy as well and it is mostly correct. they main difference is, in a game, that items is not really yours. it is yours as long as that game or server is in existence. when the company shuts the server down it is just gone. an NFT is yours. even though it does not give you rights or anything to the original work, like buying a print. it is very similar though. people pay big money for in game items and skins. on a platform like steam, you can buy and resell right on the platform for their currency.JacksonRobinson wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 1:38 pm NFTs have actually been around for a long time we just didn't call them NFTs. with NFT's. as i understand, there can be some built in benefits for artists as well like the ability to get a small amount of the selling price each time it is transferred coded into it. the biggest problem i have with them currently is the prices. they are just much more than i am willing to pay for a digital item.
they are like anything else, you can say an NFT is worth any amount you want, but until you find someone to buy it. its not really worth anything. they are very volatile, well, the currency used to purchase them is. ETH has dropped almost in half in the last month.

Re: USPCC NFT
So, I also have a limited understanding, but in effort to hopefully add to the conversation...
As I understand it, this is just one possible use case for NFTs. In concept, it can used for a host of other applications. For example, to track ownership of property like a deed to land. Instead of a physical document to track ownership, digital tech like blockchain can be used. I feel like we are in a moment of the absurd (we now have an influencer who is selling NFTs of her farts in a bottle), but the noise will eventually settle as there are real costs (the tech infrastructure and energy to do the math to unlock the blocks) which I presume will act as mitigator. As I understand it, demand for NFT minting is so high that the 'gas fees' exist to push an NFT request to the front of the line. In other words, pay a minter to use their hardware to create the block to record the transaction on the block chain. The greater the demand, the more it costs to get to the front of the line. However, my understanding is this is called a 'proof of work' model and there is movement to move to a 'proof of stake' model which addresses some of these issues, so maybe that will help keep this trend moving along.
If anybody has more info or can correct/better explain what I wrote above, I am all ears. NFT's for art is not my cup of tea, but I do find it a bit fascinating. Its sort of abstracting the idea of value to a pure concept. Two decks, one standard and one called 'limited' can have widely different perceived value due to a sticker or tuck box, even though the item within is exactly the same. I suppose in way, this is similar, but there is a sticker or box to which the value is ascribed as opposed to virtual idea of 'limited' ownership.

Re: USPCC NFT
I wasn't aware of this, so I did a bit of reading up on it. Apparently the cost of minting an NFT can fluctuate ($1 to $1000), and it will also depend on the platform you're using.STLBluesNut wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:30 am so my understanding is that when you mint an NFT it costs gas. which is basically a charge, service fee. this is in etherium as well. in an post written by Lorenzo on his patreon, he explored making some NFT''s and said that the amount that it cost to mint an NFT was around $200, if i recall correctly. obviously you then need to charge above that to make a profit.
Is Kolectiv perhaps a relatively new NFT platform? Judging by these stats, it doesn't seem to have a lot of traffic. And if you look at their completed auctions, there's nothing there except the Bicycle cards.
I wonder if perhaps Bicycle was able to make a deal with them for a relatively low minting cost, and that Kolective was trying to use this partnership with Bicycle as a way of advertising themselves? I could be totally wrong on this, and welcome any correction if I'm off the mark.

Re: USPCC NFT
it could be that they used that platform for some lower fees. seems logical why they would. however, to me, that makes the price even more ridiculous. the only way i could see the high price tag for the deck is if they were covering the fees of making the NFTs and still making a bit of profit. if they were paying low fees say $50-$100 per NFT and still charging the $300 then F them for that, just like the most recent gilded cherry casinos. $250 for deck? i just got the War in Heaven decks yesterday, full featured tucks, foil on card backs and gilded $16 shipped each.

Re: USPCC NFT
half a year later... and still 5646 of the 8008 decks available.
what on earth will they do with the rest of the decks??
Can they really sell them cheaper to try and dump them? won't all the people who paid $300 for these fell cheated??

Re: USPCC NFT
Yeah, likely not.
They've made a killing off this, so I'm sure they'll do more.
they sold 2362 decks at $299 = over $700K
PLUS all the money they made off the NFT "art"

Re: USPCC NFT
It's really curious how this project in particular was perceived by the community. There was a lot of rejection (proof is on the amount of decks they were not able to sell) mainly because of the NFT part of the project, it looked ultra greedy a big turn off for many of us.

As a brickhead, sneakerhead and card friend, I love to throw my money outta the window for things I don't need but I still want at least something for my bucks. NFTs as collectables are still utter shite.

Re: USPCC NFT
Has anyone (or anyone you know) seen any of the physical decks yet?
Or were they only shipping them out once they'd all been sold? (I heard something along those lines, but haven't been able to confirm it)

If that's the case, people will never see their decksEndersGame wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 1:37 am Or were they only shipping them out once they'd all been sold? (I heard something along those lines, but haven't been able to confirm it)

Re: USPCC NFT
That's just the site where they sell the NFTs/decks that are up for auction.
Here's USPCC's official page for the NFTs and matching decks:
https://bicyclecards.com/nfts/
Clicking "Buy Main Collection NFT" takes you to that exact link at shop.kolex.gg. So that's the place to go if you want to buy the NFT and get the physical deck. But by the sounds of things, even if you do so, you won't be getting the physical deck for a while just yet.

Re: USPCC NFT
The physical copies of the NFT decks from Bicycle have been making their way into the hands of collectors. Here is what mine looks like.
Plain black box with silver foil (remaining printing can only been seen when held up to the light for reflection)
The box slides open to reveal the tuck in a silver case.
The silver foil case opens up to reveal the deck.
Front and back of the tuck box.
Some of the cards.
Detail from the tuck box.
Overview.

Re: USPCC NFT
I see a number on ebay for around 150, and one sealed one sold for 100 - so if you are itching for one…
I am not going to spring at that price, and I doubt one is going to come up for $50, so I will just have to pass - perhaps a trade someday - or perhaps one day I will toss 75 or 100 at it if I get the chance on a day where the beer is especially cold and my mood just right.

Re: USPCC NFT
Without looking back I thought these decks were sold for like $300. They look nice but still won't jump too soon.

Re: USPCC NFT
The 300 included the NFT itself, which people selling the deck are likely holding onto - one imagines they will have some “special sales” or other value to associate with them at some point (if they don’t already)
Not an NFT fan, so I can stand to miss out on that - but not sure I would feel that way if I were a bike fan - assuming bicycle comes through with benefits for holders
I think there were 8000 standards and a 54 limited cards sold - with the 54 being top tier - the 8000 sounds like another 808 club to me
