CODEX OCCIDENTALIS, the first in the series of CODEX playing cards, planned to launch on Kickstarter late Spring. The back design is inspired by an Illuminated initial "S" in the shape of a dragon, as found in many medieval manuscripts.

that looks great. if they are not standard looking courts it might be a lotrek deck i'll buy. don't give me some shit about lotrek courts not being standard
. if they are made to look like standard courts, even if they are lotrek versions of standard courts, they are standard to me.

Not feeling the back but I shut up now since, renders indeed never do the real deal of Oath cards justice
.
I can't wait to have them, after what will be the longest fulfillment period in the history of kickstarter - maybe even mankind.

You can claim your gender to be non-binary nowadays. Calling Lotrék courts standard is the tiniest problem we ever had, lel.

I think this is the first Lotrek design that I'm not enamored with. Idk what it is, it just doesn't tickle my fancy. Maybe its the negative space within the frame behind the dragons? Maybe its the depressed tongue "fire"? I honestly don't know, just not as jazzed as I usually am, will probably skip this one, although there's much more to see.
He's still my fave tho!

The dragon looks cartoonish and derpy. I'm not a fan either considering the dragon is the focus of the back.

Keep in mind this is just a rendered art from Lotrek. He has a habit of renders that do not do the final product justice. I like the design anyway. To each there own. I am not a big fan of the Grotesk design myself.

I was wondering what it was that I didn't like about it, now you've perfectly put it into words

Texture is what seperates derp from old. And more body please Lotrék! I'm not paying full-price for only the neck artwork. You here me Greek wizard!?
On a more serious note that gold pattern in the back, will be

Finally, after a lot of research and changing of directions, Codex takes its final shape little by little, aiming to launch on KS this July. There will be two main editions: “Players” and “Scholars” with different artwork layout. The court shown here is from the Scholars edition, more true to how illuminated manuscripts look like but less playable than the Players edition which will have more legible and functional indices. Our Patrons will be treated with something very special of course…

I'm curious if the own stock is still on the planned menu or if it is off the table.

Per a Patreon update from today, Cartamundi is planned for the Players and Scholars editions, but Lotrek is hinting that if he can make it work he'll use his own stock for the Patreon edition - which I really hope happens because that sounds insane and amazing

The way it's being hyped up, I'm expecting nothing less than parchment paper that he makes at home from scratch

Why am I not reading the Patreon's update, haha? Thanks for the reminder @hsbc. Glad that I can forget about the Kickstarter then. I surely need everything but a Lotrék deck not made in Greece.

It's been a while since I've heard any news about CODEX. Has their been any news on when the KS will launch?

personally im not going to touch this project until Lotrek finishes the patreon decks he owes many of us
Tbh he has to many things on the go/pending/in-the-queue to get out to his supporters before he should open up another campaign for a deck(s) not to be received until mid-late 2024 if that
wouldnt shock me he needs another few months go by before we see anything shipped in the mail.
he's gonna need those extra monies to get the ball rolling on another re-print thats due from printer error. <<- ya, right!
watch and see on his next patreon update. mark this post
smh

Lotrék aims for an April '23 kickstarter. Let's see what fulfillment date he aims for, lol.

Will that only be available as an add on or in a bundle?
