Samwise "The Brave"

The true hero indeed

I loved seeing his hair come into existence. The finished product is so intricate relative to what I saw as pointed doodling in the beginning. Great job.

If there's one thing that struck me, it's his mouth, or rather his upper lip. The myriad vertical lines add plenty of texture, but those on his upper lip make it look as though Samwise is part sock puppet. It like his mouth was sown on. Maybe I'm being too critical, maybe you can't even see it in the grand scheme of the picture, but I think that could be improved slightly.

I have to ask simply out of my own curiosity: Is it possible to use something like the Pilot Frixion pen ink in playing cards? This seems like the kind of deck where heat sensitive ink would be awesome. Just curious if its possible

On the Crypt thread, Brad mentioned JR doing a LotR map. I had not heard about that, what are the details? I am a big LotR fan and having him do a map also sounds great.

Here is an Instagram photo Jackson posted. Jackson confirmed yesterday during his stream that this was the LOTR map, so it is done already.

I saw this, but didn't realize he had drawn it. That's pretty dope.

Maybe I got it wrong, but I recall asking about it and Jackson confirming that this was his map.

Did he mention that he did design/make the map? 🤔 I mean, regarding the map of Middle Earth there won't he too much artistic freedom, I would guess.
Looks like your regular map of Middle Earth.

This deck is going to be sick. I cannot wait. It will be a KS right? I think it will beat the record for most money raised for a playing card deck. This project has so much crossover appeal. Would love for JR to try his hand at something Mythos related too. I know its been done but his would be the best version. How about it Jackson?

Progress has picked up rather quickly with The Lord of the Rings project. Here are the aces (minus the AoS) for the Fellowship of the Ring deck. If you want to check out the creation of any of these three cards go check out some of my past "Dawn's Early Light" live streams on my Youtube channel, the entire creation process for each is there.

I'm a bit sad, as I loved the previous version of the AoH... This one is also good, but I think the previous was just in another level...

This update kinda kicked me off the hype train. Feels way to comicy for me. I would love less Erfworld/Name of the Wind... 🤔

I guess the way it is now, the shape of the blade makes it look like the sword is not laying flat, and instead points out of the card.

I seem to remember (but this could be entirely wrong) in the mists of time when news of this series broke, JR mentioned he's got the license for Mistborn until April and LotR until May. OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. Both KS campaigns have to be finished by then -- but somebody please clarify it for me.

so i have to ask: the sherlock holmes deck was very dark because of the foiling, are these the same way, or is there good contrast between the foil and the other colors

The foil on Beowulf and Sherlock decks were dark because the foil were printed over to give them color. That JoS looks like it has bare gold foil so it should be nice and shiny.

I can't link the photo Jackson posted of the colorized version of Tom Bombahl, but it is amazing. Much more like a painting than anything I have seen from Jackson before. If that is what we have to look forward to, then this series is going to kill my bank account! Arghhh!

After some though Jackson has decided to go with this colored engraved style! Looks good indeed. Not sure if this is final or not, but if you want to know more, make sure you follow his youtubes lives, from monday to friday 5am JST (Jackson Standard Time).

They are. Jackson is aiming for a Spring 2022 Kickstarter I believe. He is currently working on the cards. I think he has had trouble finding a style that he liked for these decks, but seems to have finally settled on one. He has worked on them in quite a few of his recent YouTube lives.

Thanks for the update @EvilDuncan. Before the 10hundred campaign, I was betting on these to be the first campaign that breaks the million dollar barrier.
Curious to see what style Jackson settled on now. I liked the originally teased style are there updates on the lord of the rings instagram?

For those not keeping up with Jackson's new Discord server, there's a lot of new progress on these decks. He's aiming for an April 20th release date for the Fellowship of the Ring Kickstarter followed by the Two Towers KS in September. Return of the King is TBD. I think this is easily his best work yet. Far surpassing Alice in Wonderland.

Each suit will be themed after a different season. I really like this idea. The little ring in the center is a nice touch.

For those interested, I think this KS will be a 3 or 6-deck project depending on stretch goals. Initially it's your typical standard/limited/gilded release (I forget all the differences) which then turns into a standard/limited(spring/summer/fall/winter)/gilded set unlocked by stretch goals. He's including some extra cards in each release in all the KS that can be combined to form larger images (ME map, Galdalf fighting the Balrog, etc.). It's gonna be dope.

More info on the Discord (https://discord.gg/vpnp6szj)

Seems like the old artwork he did for this deck posted above will go mostly unused. I hope he eventually makes a deck in that style though, it was a nice theme with a good visual parallel to the Mistborn deck.
