If I understand correctly I choose "The Magician" and add the hand-drawn artwork. That'll leave me with 2 decks (that I can choose the colours of), 3x 100 lire coins and a beautiful artwork from your designer, correct?
How many of the hand-drown artworks will be available? Are there different ones to choose from? What Size do they have? Any possibility to get this after the kickstarter?
Exactly! I've done it this way to ensure that everyone who can benefit from free shipping does so (without, for example, ordering 2 decks and a coin and paying shipping when they don't have to) and also to keep the campaign focused on decks. So if people really want the extras, they need to commit to at least two decks as ultimately that's the whole point.
I'm glad you like the artwork. Alessandra will completely redraw one of the courts or aces for you (or a six of clubs, whatever floats your boat
) and paint it using watercolours on high quality A4 watercolour art paper. It'll be completely unique as no two will be painted the same and it's not a print, it'll be handpainted to order. It's currently limited to 25 backers as we don't want to risk delaying shipping of the rewards and she'll be doing it all herself.
She'll sign it on the back, stamp it with a Jocu stamp and number it 1 of 1. She's been an artist for all her life and her father and aunt were both professional artists and her first love is painting, so it'll be a really nice playing-card related work for your home.
And then for those of you who just want decks, the standard tiers are for you and offer good prices and free shipping for 4 decks or more
I'll let you guys know about the early bird plans later in the week.

You know what I hate about you? That you are swaying me into buying that s**tty B9 !!!
Alessandra's design and your effort and kindness are just way too good to not back this!
Me: "I'm never ever buying that $!** B9 finish again!"
Lorenzo: drops House of the Rising Spades
TGW: drops Parlour Playing Cards
Jocu: drops Fillide ...

Hahaha I honestly love B9. Giovanni’s Betrayers Invictus is my current favourite deck and for the magic I do it’s perfect stock. Plus it’d kill me to see all those backs misaligned by USPCC
I love USPCC stock too though and I get that people are passionate about this. I guess I can thank Lorenzo for helping keep B9 stock in the public eye. I’m sure cartamundi will continue improving t
Thank you for your kind words I’ll be sure to pass them on to Alessandra!

I'll probably back for a half-brick of these. I can see myself bringing these to a lot of poker nights.

That's a really nice touch to individually paint something. Certainly not something everyone can offer due to scale, but really cool and unique.

Besides saying again that I'm loving this project and can't wait to back it, I thought I'd share a little information on the 100 lire coins that I dug up, for anyone else who enjoys coin handling.
According to what I found, 100 lire coins are 27.8mm diameter, 8g, stainless steel with a reeded edge. I could not find a reference for exact coin thickness.
For North Americans, a Sacajawea or Anthony dollar is ~26.5mm x 2mm, 8.1g, alloy clad with a smooth edge on Sacajaweas and a reeded edge on Susies; a Loonie is almost the exact same dimensions but 6.27g with a nickel/bronze composition and smooth edge.
The lire coins will therefore be pretty similar to "small dollars" in size and hand feel; the reeded edge is nice and makes them easier to handle than Loonies or Sacajaweas. Numismatic value is negligible, you'd probably find them in the $1/ea foreign coins bin at a coin shop, but they're also somewhat uncommonly seen in NA and obviously match the deck well. As well, stainless steel coins are a lot less nerve-wracking to handle over concrete than silver coins are, in my opinion.
PS - I don't know your exact economics on this, but given that lire coins are not extra-expensive, I would humbly suggest including FOUR coins in the magician set; four coins allows you to do a four-coin flourish or fill your hand up walking coins down your knuckles.

Very good point on 4 coins vs 3, many tricks require 4.

I think you guys are right about four coins and I actually wanted to do it before but sources kind of dried up this past few weeks. Also the extra coin makes it even more difficult to have all the coins with identical dates which I’d really love to do but currently can’t promise.
What do you think, identical dates important?

It is definetly a nice surplus, imo. But if you ask me if I take four coins over three, I would go for the four coins. As mentioned before good for tricks like coin matrix and stuff. Or push througs are more impressive with 4 coins than with 3.

Four coins it is then. I had the same feedback over at the magic cafe. I cant promise identical dates for now but I’ll aim to do so. I’ve been using them for Greg Wilson’s 3/4 across for about a year and to be honest people at just surprised to see lire and can examine them regardless. Unless they examine them between each phase it won’t cause a problem
Thanks for the research and feeeback!

I don't care about coins...
Can I have an extra deck instead?

(as a collector, me neither) well hopefully the 4/6 deck/brick prices will be good enough to tempt you regardless. These are still among the best prices on the campaign.
4 deck EB is €45 free US/EU Shipping
6 deck EB is €65 free US/EU Shipping
12 deck EB is €115 free US/EU Shipping
24 deck EB is €220 free US/EU Shipping
Works out at less than €10 a deck for each of the brick tiers and just over for the half brick.
What are everyone's thoughts on
timed early birds versus
limited? The 12 hour window worked really well for TGW and seeing as all of our backers will be from the UC community, Instagram followers and general early supporters they all deserve an EB IMO and if they're paying attention they'll all be there in that 12 hour window.
There are no EBs at premium tiers but you already get add-on decks for €10 here so if you're in for a special reward you get about the best cost per deck regardless.
Here's the graphic (Subject to tweaking) to explain standard versus premium tiers.
If in doubt, look carefully at the descriptions of each tier. As I'm now leaning towards timed early birds, there'll be no mad rush to quickly pledge
On a final note it seems a custom brick box as a stretch goal is a no-brainer. Will post the preview link tomorrow for people to have a browse and let us know any final thoughts.

I would really appreciate timed EB's, as I think many others would.
I don't know if anyone has compared similar projects with timed and non-timed EB's, but I wouldn't be surprised if timed EB's actually contributes to an overall larger and more stable climb in pledges compared to the mad dash of the first 50 backers (who are probably people who would have pledged regardless). I know I have no rush in pledging if I see "reward no longer available" on EB tiers, and sometimes put it off so long that I forget about it altogether.

Yeah after all the EBs are about you guys and all the people who've supported and been following the project since the start so it makes sense to benefit those who are there on day one, within that 12 hour window, than have them fight amongst themselves for the restricted tiers.
I'll go with 12 hour EBs on all standard tiers up to 2 bricks. So you guys can have a chilled out pledge
I'll probably go with 11am ET as it's a convenient 5pm CET and presumably good for the rest of the states.

Hi guys! I've decided to share the preview link (Just here at UC for now) so you can get a good look at the campaign and offer any suggestions or improvements.
Things we're aware of...
- Need to add graphic for premium rewards and reward descriptions
- Need to fix links to website which are not live yet

How much will shipping be for one of each deck?

€5 to the states and EU. So €25 shipped for EB or €29 shipped for standard two decks. Every other tier above is free. So about $28/32.

Is the Green + Silver deck meant to be named "Acqua" or is it a typo for "Aqua"?
I've also asked a couple of questions on the mock campaign page

"Acqua" is how the Italians spell the word for water, so no, probably not a typo.

Hey, thanks for putting a pronunciation for Jocu on the page. I’ll embarrass myself a little and admit I’ve been reading it as “jock-u” until I saw that.

Jock me? Jock you!
Ha don’t worry it’s not obvious how it’s pronounced even for Italians as it’s sicilian dialect.
Even we spent the first few days saying ‘juco’ by mistake and ale even registered ‘juco.cards’ as our first domain and cost us 30€
Thanks for all your feedback so far and on the page. I can confirm that Acqua and Terra are itslian for Water and Earth for the deck names although these aren’t going to be printed anywhere. On the other hand I will change ‘magick’ to ‘magic’ to prevent confusion although ‘magick’ is a tongue-in-cheek reference to occult magic and is an alternative spelling used to differentiate real ‘magic’ from sleight of hand. But now I’ve said too much...
Regarding shipping rates to Canada, Gamblers Warehouse rates count Canada as ‘rest of world’ so unfortunately it doesn’t benefit from free shipping but it will likely be lower than you’re used to.
