Re: The House of the Rising Spade
I am most likely in. I love the tuck! Gilding is ok. Even though the cards are some of my favorites ever, they look to be the same as Cartomancer. For that, the price will have to be right since it is the same deck in a different tuck. A very nice tuck though.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
There was a HotRS Kickstarter update on May 9:
Hello Everybody,
With this update I am announcing the QUEST I am preparing. I worked on this side project on and off during the the last months and it should be ready in August. Or maybe later, launching when ready.
House of the Rising Spade "Room17" will be a limited edition deck, with gold gilded Cartomancer cards.
Why? and How?
During the production of HRS (short for The House of the Rising Spade) Cartamundi overproduced by mistake A LOT of Cartomancer decks that remained "naked" (=no tuckbox). I bought hem because I did not want them to end in a shredder.
Approximately 1000 units of Cartomancer decks are sitting at Cartamundi as we speak.
600 of them will be gilded and become Room17, the rest will just get their Cartomancer tuckbox (Oath Playing Cards is reprinting) and refill my online store.
In the following picture you see the REAL gilding made by Cartamundi. I am using a Butterfly deck limited edition with a HRS card on top. Plus a little fix with photoshop.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
I am excited about the gilded version. Although, I am really looking forward to the next fully custom Kickstarter project from Lorenzo. Take your time and give me notice to build up my finances to take a huge hit though.Don't take too long though.
With 1000 more decks though, that brings the total count of Cartomancer decks up a lot. I recall that 4k were printed, so I guess this brings it up to 5k. That is a lot of these decks.
Hah Pierre, but you aren't the only Patreon backer. However, just one deck will not satisfy me!![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Brad, at least you ARE a Patreon backer. I had a look last night and every tier over $2 was sold out.

Haha, I asked Lorenzo about that just lately. He is going to reset the tiers in January 2020. No high pledge tiers till thenportcullis wrote:Brad, at least you ARE a Patreon backer. I had a look last night and every tier over $2 was sold out.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
I think I was like his first Patreon backer, if not I was like his second or third. Initially, it was just to support someone I really wanted to succeed. I know he quit his main job to focus on card design, so I wanted to help him with some stable funds each month. I was not focused at all on any rewards. When he offered some neat stuff, then I increased my pledge. That was an easy decision.
I think Lorenzo said he limited the top tiers because he didn't want to focus on all of the custom stuff. I think he realized it could overwhelm him. I am glad he is reconsidering expanding the tier amounts next year. This is a process and I am sure he his working in his mind how he can grow his Patreon the way he wants in a manageable way. I think that just underscores that translating playing card design to Patreon is really unique for each artist.
I like how each artist is making personal interpretations in the Patreon/subscription process. At this point, I do think Jackson has the early lead, if for no other reason that the sheer volume and logistics he has tackled with his subscription. I am really excited about a whole new level of interaction we have in an even closer way than Kickstarter through Patreon and Kickstarter. I really wish I could support Gio.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
As per the latest kickstarter update today, some exciting images of progress made on the Tarot deck, I need to start saving for it now! Also that the Room17 decks are planned to become available on his website in October, which I can't wait to get my hands on.
'The Quest
When the deck goes live, you can decide to participate to the quest I am preparing. It is not going to be a 5 minute quest, for this one you really have to spend some time like an archaeologist....kind of![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
I do not want to reveal too much, just stay tuned.
I am working on the prize as well, I think I will offer the printing plates of this deck and the Room17 deck nr. 001/680 with signature.'

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
I hope Lorenzo won't mind me telling it... It's not a total surprise of course, but the Room 17 decks will be gilded in France... By cartamundi... You know... using the same gilding process that has been used on the Butterfly decks...

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
One third of me wishes that the Tarot cards would have a background, but the other two thirds are perfectly convinced that Lorenzo is nailing the s**t out of this Tarot deck! I could go hours about these cards... the stiching details on the High Priestress' dress, the Cartomancer back design in the book, that pattern on the dog...
What a time to be alive as a card collector.

I would definitely have more tarot decks if they weren't so expensive (understandably). As it is I have the Brut Tarot, both Arcana Tarots, and the True Black Tarot, none of which have disappointed in the slightest! So many more cards of beautiful art than can fit in a poker deck. ![Drool ](./images/smilies/icon_drool.gif)

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
I did not own any tarot decks until recently. Now I have about 20 of them, half of them being Malpertuis decks. The artwork on some of them is really good. I should have resisted the urge to buy that first deck and kept tarot decks out of my collection.
I will definitely be getting this deck.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
Agreed on this, plus, I don't know any guys that play tarot. As much as I read about the game and it's variants it seems to be pretty awesome and fun. Furthermore the card quality is always kind of a gamble aswell. Since the focus for tarot decks is mostly on visiuals they tend to disappoint in stock quality. Especially the more affordable/cheaper ones.Adonael wrote:I would definitely have more tarot decks if they weren't so expensive (understandably). Re: The House of the Rising Spade
All of the cards released so far have been f@#$ing amazing. I do not have any tarot decks and dont plan on starting that collection but any card collector or person that loves art worth their salt will have this deck.
I have no doubt this will be excellent quality and as affordable as Lorenzo can make it. I am really looking forward to this release.
There are a lot of cards and so far look amazing. Take your time and don't burn out. I would rather wait and have a deck where the last card looks as amazing as the first.

Looks superb Lorenzo.
I will suggest to share this in tarot forums and get feedback on the art & symbolism from the practitioners. Everyone in UC loves the art already and you may not find critique & constructive feedback here.
Check this out, it is Kirk Slater's thread on a tarot forum and you will notice real good feedback and critical commentary on the drafts he shared.

Other 2 forums you might want to check & post your drafts are as below. I'd also recieved feedback on Bharata tarot through these forums. All the best.

That was a great thought, guru. Like myself, I am absolutely enamored with the art but know nothing about tarot, so I wouldn't know if the dog should be a goat or the snake should be a chalice or something like that.

If any of you missed the House of the Rising Spade Cartomancer uncut sheets, I just noticed Lorenzo has 8 in stock at his online store. They ship from Gambler's Warehouse for $45, plus shipping. I doubt he has any extras, except some he held back for himself. I don't remember seeing them before, but maybe they were up and I didn't pay attention.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
Lorenzo, your "shopify" site says that the Cartomancer decks are coming back in stock. Does that mean another print run, or you have stock remaining that you are sending to the fulfillment center? If you're doing another run, any chance you could have some more uncuts done at the same time?
I haven't picked up any uncuts in a very long time, and I've decided I really want the House of the Rising Spades uncut, preferably both Cartomancer & Faro. If Cartomancer is never coming back, I'll order the Faro one now.
Thanks!

Re: The House of the Rising Spade (wap)
Lorenzo purchased a large overrun that Cartamundi did on the Cardomancer deck. I believe he had Lotrek make more tucks. It is my understanding they are on the way now to Gamblers Warehouse. At which point they will be up for sale. Some of those decks were gilded and put in a new tuck to make the Room 17? Deck (not sure if the name off hand). I seem to recall there were about 1000 overrun decks. This wasn’t a reprint though. I don’t think Lorenzo is planning a reprint.

Re: The House of the Rising Spade
Hi all,
here is a clarification about HOTRS cartomancer restock.
Cartamundi overproduced approx 1000 HOTRS cartomancer decks (without tuck) and I decided to buy them and do the following:
680 will be gilded and become Room17
The rest will just get the tuckbox that lotrek reprinted.
Also, I have as leftover approx 200 Faro that I will put back for sale when Room17 and Cartomancer arrive at GW.
Room17 will be ready at the end of September, but something happened.
The gilding factory in France lost 125 Room17 gilded decks (almost a master case) during shipping back to Belgium.
I dont know if they found them, I am waiting for an update from Cartamundi.
I hope I explained everything![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
