No, I meant "Art Deco" - I was just wrong.

My Art Major friends would disavow any knowledge of me.[/quote]

Hey guys, I'm very glad you liked the deck! And it's Art-Nouveau influenced, not art Deco. :-)

Your work?

As I said above, I think it is the most beautiful Bicycle deck I've seen, and I own about 160 modern Bikes!

Congrats on - and thanks for - a beautifully realized deck!

And yes, even as I typed "Artd Deco", it did not seem right to me, but I went with it anyway - sorry.

Really nice set with a coin and a booklet.

Any more information on which deck this is? Is it available anywhere?
Strag, it's funny that you post this, since my next deck will be a circus transformation deck :D

MJF, the deck is Robert Schick's Circus Transformation Playing Cards. Only 1,000 were produced and so far I've only seen them on ebay.
Got mine earlier this year. One of a thousand? I had no idea. ;)

I know a couple who owns one of the most extensive collections of playing cards in America, and they have told me on a number of occasions that they do not consider a deck a "limited edition" unless there were no more than 200 of them printed.

Oh, are you not doing Broken Wings any more? Not that I mind, definitely want more transformation decks from you!
Clipped Wings is my 2012 deck, and it's complete :) The circus-themed one is my 2013 deck.

Well, here is what I purchased on eBay under the misimpression that it was Christmas-themed:

==========[ D'ohHoHo! ]==========

The courts are not "courtish" at all.

The deck is not Christmas-themed at all.

It is printed on uncoated cardstock, similar to cereal box material.

Bad purchase. Bad, BAD purchase!

The only ones that come to mind are a series of decks published by an artist whose name I forget, but she was mentally-challenged and drew nice pen-and-ink courts. and got several of her designs published (I forget by who) in lots of 100 decks each.

This was back in the 1990s - Dunno if that is still even possible/feasible today.

Yummy!!!

This is my gift box from the artisan 4 deck set and box.

I got my white monarchs with the intent to sell it but I just can't bring myself to do it.

So it along with my signed green Cthulhu deck will live in the box

have you ever bought random cards on ebay thinking you might get lucky? i thought i was going to get lucky with this purchase

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Camel-P ... true&rt=nc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Image

i figured might as well try it out for 12 bucks for 6 decks...little did i know they were bridge size! and the worst part is they do feel pretty damn good! i wish they were poker sized :/

i have a question, is there an easy way to tell if something is bridge size or not? the only tell ive found is if it has a seal, since the USPCC seal is always the same size no matter what, but this deck didnt have one

Darkinertia, I used to buy decks on eBay in hopes they were more than what the listing described.

Needless to say, this seldom pays off, and I rarely buy a deck there unless I know the deck well (my recent "Doh Ho Ho!" deck being as sad exception).

When I used to buy decks at antique malls and such (difficult now from my wheelchair), I would occasionally buy a closed deck hoping it had custom courts, but that, too, seldom paid off.

Speaking of custom courts, your camel deck reminded me of a cool Camel deck I got years ago in which all of the courts had Joe Camel's face. Nice!

yeah its happened to me twice now, first buying the karls silver club cards and now with the camels...it kinda sucks but at the same time i think one of these days im going to run into that deck that will be completely amazing that no ones heard of before, i know itll never happen but i can dream :D

i did get pretty lucky finding a full tilt deck for less than 10 bucks though! they feel kinda weird right now, but i know my brother has the same deck and since its completely broken in it feels amazing. i guess im just on the lookout on decks that dont feel like your typical bicycles

One cool find I made was when I bought the Hausermann aluminum deck "Cocktail" on eBay in around 1998.

It's a very cool and desirable deck, with Art Deco-themed courts. (NOT Art Nouveau).

I outbid the competition, getting the deck for around $135.

When it came in the mail, I was surprised to find that it was a Patience-sized deck (around 1.75" x 2.5"), something that was not mentioned in the auction description.

When I mentioned this to one of the others who had been bidding (in those days, you could see who was bidding on something), word quickly traveled, and everyone wanted to see photos/scans - none of us even knew there was a patience-sized version of the deck!

Had the seller mentioned the deck's size in the auction listing, it would easily have gone for $500 or more!

I recently saw an eBay listing for the much less-rare standard-sized version of the deck, and the starting bid was over $600!

Here is a current auction of (I think) the standard-sized version:

I know! I have some more decks coming in the mail and of course I am always looking to see what's out on kickstarter.

I have to find my camera so I can start reviewing decks. I told her I would do that and hope to get some sales for my yarn shop that way. Not likely, but if it'll simmer down some of the commentary it'll be worth it. Lol.

Reviewing decks will help you get sales for your yarn shop?

I am obviously quite ignorant of how the yarn business works.

Well of course it doesn't make sense if you think about it. But the point is to be able to buy more decks without my wife complaining.

But I did get a sale from being a vocal (and friendly) backer of the Cthulhu card deck. It doesn't make sense but hey it worked once, why not twice or more.

Just got some Hornets, Revision 1, and Bicycle 808 club decks in.

LOVE the hornets...everything about them. Great color scheme (really nice use of cream colored-offwhite....whatever you want to call it.) Also really enjoy the jokers in this deck. Can't wait to see what Russell has up his sleeve for the next in the heritage series from CCCC.

Revision 1 is a pretty neat deck too, really cool gaff cards. The silver and white court cards against the light blue is beautiful.

Bicycle 808-didn't open...since I only have 1 ;) I hate that it came with that little plastic retail hanger, I had to cut it down so it doesn't stick up, drives me crazy.

Hi all! I've been collecting playing cards for about a year now, I have over 80 different decks and more on the way. I've been lurking on this forum for a while to alert me to new decks and figured I'd register to chime in on the topic of finding interesting new decks.

I've found some beautiful and unique decks from Europe. Piatnik of Austria makes many different unique decks, and there are some other companies making decks too. European decks have smooth surfaces, not air-cushion, and they aren't good for performing IMO, but as a collector there are some great finds. Note that many of the decks use a "T" on the Ace, a "B" on the Jack, and an "A" on the Queen, but it's easy to tell which card is which by the pictures on them.

One of my favorite decks is called Eneida. Here are some sample cards:

Image

Here they are on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/54-Ukrainian-Pl ... 5aec0d7292" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (I am not the seller)

Here is another great looking set of cards from Ukrainian artist Vladislav Erko:

The court cards are some of my favorites from any deck.

I'm sure some of you already have these or know about them, but maybe it will be new to some folks.
