A hosted awards show or even just a video by you announcing would be stellar!

I would love to see this. The Lady Wake is hilarious and you are okay (just kidding!) so that would be a great comedic and professional/high quality production. From your previous YT videos, I imagine we could expect a song-and-dance number and maybe even a short film based on the theme of the DOTY winner. Oh, man. This needs to happen, TGW. Like now. You could even interview each category winner in your parlor and discuss their craft/inspiration. This is getting out of hand. In any case, just do it. Like now.

Cheers

due to time constraint I dont think live interviews would be possible but how abt amy send all the voting list and etc to TGW and they do the drawing of prices and winners announcement live on YT? (if they have the time for it)

Can we include a roast segment where I just flame decks that have no business existing..? I could even literally light them on fire!

I'm sure some people would enjoy...

Sorry, but we'll need to see a screentest first.

Omar, I like the idea and frankly we thought about doing a faux "red carpet" event at one time a couple of years ago. Feel free to make a video once Amy posts the results Friday. Maybe you can coordinate the announcement? Makes perfect sense to me and I have truly enjoyed her efforts to make this more than simply our website in every way.

furrukhjamal wrote:Question: This is my first DOTYs, so I know the voters get a lot of things to win but do the actual winners get anything except the recognition, like a certificate or something? or are these awards quoted anywhere else outside the UC community?
If not then I guess for next year this should be the goal to make these awards be something recognizable outside of UC too :)
Great question! So, even though the DOTYs are a UC tradition that have been held for a few years now, this is the first year that we've really made A LOT of new changes, most notably being those aimed to help make voting easier for new and veteran members as well as a strong push to promote outside of our own community to invite other enthusiasts of the hobby to join in and participate. Fortunately, we've had some help from a few of our wonderful designers/producers of the UC fam like montenzi, guru, stockholm17 and others that were able to spread the word using their own social medias to reach a much wider audience during the running of the event, but also from the incomparable GentlemanWake with his gracious shoutouts on his channel to shine the light on our little community here and our DOTYs event before it even began and we couldn't be more thankful to all of those that helped in promotion - Love y'all! <3

Anyways, I've actually thought about presenting actual awards a while back and, while it would be absolutely AWESOME to send out the DOTY Award winners some sort of official, physical award it is, as you could imagine, quite costly and it's not something we have ever done before in the past nor discussed during the planning of this year's event :( Another alternative that I considered was sending out award certificates to winners to recognize their win, but, again, this was not something we discussed nor planned and, as seemingly an inexpensive alternative to awards, I had still looked into it about 3 weeks ago and, considering that we're recognizing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners (in some cases, ties of placement shared between 2 or 3 winners) in each.and.every of the 15 (!!!) total categories, the cost of printing and shipping was/is an expense that I personally cannot bear...

It would be awesome, not just to have people donate towards covering the expenses, but more so if we were able to get Lotrek himself to consider taking on the printing of award certificates for us... buuuutttt... since this is something that we all failed to address earlier during planning and, now that it's right before announcement of winners, is just something that I don't think is feasible (besides, with Lotrek's time management and luck, we probably wouldn't have award certificates ready to send out to winners of this year's DOTYs until probably next year anyways... along with UC's 2018 deck... :? :ugthink: ... lmao    ) However, this is definitely something that I think we should most certainly keep in mind for planning in next year's event and I think would be really great if we could manage. This year, as I said, I just can't afford to personally take on the costs of printing and shipping myself but, if someone else would be interested in generously donating to cover the expenses, I'd be more than happy to put in the extra time and effort to manage everything else in regards to putting together some sort of spiffy award certificate, finding a place to have them nicely printed at a decent price, collecting addresses from everyone and sending 'em out... but otherwise, the best I can do is offer to create a pdf certificate and email it out to winners so they can print themselves if they so desire... :? sorry!

To be honest, I wasn't really expecting the DOTYs to gain so much attention and be recieved so positively from the community outside of our little forum here at UC and there to be so much enthusiasm expressed from our new members in participating! I think I can speak generally on behalf of everyone here when I say that we're all pleasantly surprised to see so many new faces join the UC fam and especially those that are so passionately active and excited to be engaging and contributing to the community - fostering this kind of environment in which we could all come together to help one another and share in on the hobby that we all love is really invigorating, inspiring and motivating to try and make - not only this event - but the community as a whole, the best we can and continue to strive towards more inclusiveness :)

I hope that with the attention this year's DOTYs gained, we'll be able to manage and plan to continue, to the best of our collective abilities, to grow it bigger and better for next year and every year thereafter to really make this into an event the playing card community as a whole can look forward :ugdance: But as of now, I'm not sure if the results will be officially published/recognized anywhere else outside of UC (although it would be awesome if they were lol); nonetheless, we can continue to try and promote and make it into an event that everyone will want to be a part of regardless :) :ugdance:

Also, be sure to stick around even after the DOTYs are over because I'm already planning a post-event update to outline some of the things I feel worked really well, other things that maybe didn't work as well as we had hoped, and some areas that I think we can improve upon as well as open discussion to get feedback from everyone else that participated (or didn't) so, at the very least, we can address these issues now while it's all still fresh in our minds and it'll be a starting point at which we can refer back to when we start planning for next year's DOTYs :)

No. Read the whole thing you illiterate bastard!

Beginning with the 2020 awards, I would be interested in sponsoring the award-winning certificates.

Why 2020, you ask? Well, #1 is my OCD. After that, I think we need to develop a concrete set of categories that will likely never change. I will put my reputation and money where my mouth is, if we can develop these awards into something even better and also more meaningful.

I would say that I definitely talk the most "smack" when I see a crappy deck. I am equally as passionate, if not more so, about great decks. I would be interested in sponsoring the entire decade of award-winning items.

Yeah, if 2pc can take the time out of his day to get his mom to read it to him, the least you can do is sound out the short words! If you have trouble, just look them up in the dictionary or ask me.

Guys & gals, I am all for us making this even bigger than Amy has done this year, but before I go elsewhere - we all owe a big thank you to her for her awesome efforts! I have heard from people who have been quiet for years and it definitely puts UC "in the spotlight" in our hobby worldwide.

If one of the artists wants to help create a fancy certificate that we can customize and send out to the winners, I am all for this. Maybe we can put together a PDF format file that can be customized for this year and future Decks of the Year contests? We have had individuals gen up unofficial "certificates" in the past, but nothing consistent nor available to others (AFAIK).

Having an DotY awards ceremony would be awesome and go a long way towards promoting both UC and the awards, and further legitimize them - which in my mind Amy has already done much of the work toward that goal with the efforts she has made this year.

Yeah, Amy. Quit slackin and release the results already! It's past 6pm here in in the Far East and I just checked that's it's 11am now in Germany! Just because the votes are all in, doesn't mean you get to quit now.

But then I recall it was never promised just what time and which time zone the results would be released. Just hope it's not American Samoa , the last country to see sun set.

Nah, j/k. Would love to see the results before I go to bed tonight though. Thanks for the great job getting so many of us here in UC so excited for DoTY.

aw shucks - thanks for the kind words, Mike, but honestly, it was a group effort and nothing I personally did in contribution to/for the DOTYs was anything extra extraordinary that anyone else here couldn't have also stepped up and done with the collective efforts of the community - just imagine what more participation - not just in voting but also in planning, management and promotion - can do in future DOTYs! :D

Just remember y'all - I do actually have a life, as pathetic as it is, outside of this forum with a ton of other, non-playing card responsibilities to manage too so I'm working on getting the results up and ready for everyone as soon as I can. But besides there's never really a perfect time for everyone and I do realize that it may even be bit late in other parts of the world but I'm aiming to announce the DOTY results here at UC by 10am central time (hopefully no later than noon) and then on IG (and possibly elsewhere) approximately three days later as I'd like that those that have been following this event elsewhere do stop by here. I'm getting to work now with writing & formatting everything to get it all set to go so just please be patient and give me *some* slack lol

stay tuned y'all! Results are in and coming soon to a screen near you! lol :ugdance:

While reading this, it came to my mind, maybe you could do like a countdown on IG, so for example 3 unleashed awards per day, so it gets to 5 days, or 5 award to 3 days, I don't know if that's interesting at all, but this way you kinda do the same in leading them to UC.

wow, this is actually a really great idea SirCrunoke! I might just do this on IG to encourage people to make the leap over here to UC and spend some time on the site rather than just waiting to watch it pop up on their feed for those following there. thanks so much for the idea! :D :ugdance:

Okay, so since y'all have been so awesome and patient - I hurried as fast as I could to get everything finished out and ready for posting and I'm finally ready to announce the voting results for the DOTY Awards... AND I am going to go ahead and do so early! DOTY AWARD WINNERS ARE NOW UP! Check it out HERE :ugdance: :ugdance: :ugdance:

And congratulations to all placed DOTY award winners, honorable mentions and those nominated in this year's DOTYs - 2018 had some of the toughest competition we've ever seen and the votes were very, VERY close resulting in some cases in 2- and 3-way ties and others missing placement by only one or two votes. Y'all did an absolutely amazing job and should be proud of the exceptional work you put out in the world for us all to enjoy and we greatly appreciate your contributions to the hobby and community. Thank you and congratulations!!! :ugdance:

But y'all will still have to wait 'til 10am CT for the winners of the DOTY prize giveaway... :ugthink:

wow, this is actually a really great idea SirCrunoke!

:ugthink:
I have a correction for you...

If there are tie results, i.e. "2nd place - tie", then the following slot should be 4th place, not 3rd... 3rd place can't have 3 results ahead of it...

I've also noticed that some of these results don't match the list of winners that I sent you in January...

Gio, I hope that, regardless of whether her name is drawn for the prize giveaway, you are planning on sending something nice to Cardileigh for her discovery of Lunatica's "hidden" UV-reactive feature. I know my vote for "Best Use of Color" was decided by that factor and, judging by its win in that category, I suspect I am not alone. A signed sketch of a "bosomy" queen, perhaps? ;)

I voted my conscience and had more than a few "write-ins" who were not nominated, so I knew I wasn't gonna Nate Silver the results. I am satisfied with the winners nonetheless, though I think some categories had weaker entries than others. (I am hoping to see more innovation and variation in layouts for "Best Pips" in the 2019 awards, for example.) Now that results have been announced, it might be interesting to discuss which votes people had a hard time settling on and why, or which dark horses you were really pulling for. I'd be happy to share my slate and the reasoning behind it with anybody who wants to know.

Congratulations to all winners, and nominees, it's no shame to lose to any of those decks.

actually, I think this feature had been discovered long before her vid review was uploaded, but probably helped that it *was* posted here and elsewhere during the running of the DOTYs while voting was still open... :ugthink:

Mine wasn't.

It was a use of unique colors, regardless of the UV "feature". Lunatica deserved the win.
