The legacy is definitely not a scam. I would not pay that much for it as I do not think it is worth it does not mean it is a scam. A scam would be something like selling a piece of wood as though it is something valuable. Oh wait ....
Actually, I do not think that was a scam either as buyers knew exactly what they were getting.
Hey now, that block of wood was a signed limited edition item

My mistake for using the word scam. I do apologize for the inaccurate word choice.

I personally pledged for one of each of the four decks. I did not opt for the legacy as that seems like a scam to me. If the Ocean's Curse Captain's Crate, limited to 300 can sell for $50 and make a profit, an unlimited (limited only by demand/feasibility) wooden box and recolored tuck at $200 is just meh.
But then again, that's just me and others can of course see it very differently!
After seeing JR's videos, including the one where he made the April Fool's signed block of woods, I believe the wooden boxes for the Legacy eds will be literally handmade by the KWP crew, if not JR himself. If that's correct, then the price includes the time required to produce the cases themselves.
If anyone knows more about JR's legacy edition wooden cases being made by him or not, please do let us know.
Meh to most collectors, but for those who love the special wooden cases, that's a talking point in one's collection for sure. Of course, it won't come anywhere near to the wow factor that is TGW's Successor Ultimate Wooden Case of cases, coming up soon!

I am sitting at $205 myself. Two of everything including two Kickstarter Exclusive and Kickstarter Exclusive gilded. No Legacy sets this time though.
I'm on the same backer level as the big fish?

I remember in the past the legacy edition cases were made by an outside party. I am not sure about now though

I've always outsourced the legacy decks. They will be made of solid black Walnut.

Correct, Jackson's crew are not woodworkers. These are obviously not made by them. Cutting pieces of 1x4 and making custom boxes with magnet inlays are very different things.

I went back to check the stats. Jackson raised an insane $657,609 with over 8,000 backers. That puts it in the #3 slot of all time most funded playing card campaigns on Kickstarter.
It is hard to argue with success. Great campaign.

I posted this is the Discord, I think it would be nice to share here as well:
Most Funded:
1. Vivid Kingdoms - $2,143,826
̷2̷.̷ ̷M̷e̷t̷a̷-̷Z̷o̷o̷ ̷-̷ ̷$̷1̷,̷8̷5̷7̷,̷7̷7̷7̷
3. The Lord of the Rings - FOTR - $657,609
4. The Name of the Wind - Art - $630,300
5. The Name of the Wind - $589,660
Most Backed:
1. Vivid Kingdoms - 23,147
2. The Name of the Wind - 11,344
3. The Photography Deck - 10,736
4. The Name of the Wind - Art - 10,090
5. The Lord of the Rings - FOTR - 8,259
There is an argument of whether or not Meta-Zoo should be considered a "playing card" project due it being at best, a trading card game behind a playing card paywall, and at worst, a $40 shipping fee that came with some cards. The compromise was to let it be listed, but scratched through.

Has anyone seen any update on when he might be releasing the version of these that's based on the original design? I haven't seen anything about it since the Kickstarter funded.

Here is his Discord update:
He is starting fulfillment next week of the non-gilded decks.
"Here is the clarification. The gilded uspsc decks are at a minimum two months out. That would put them past the Nov delivery date. We want to sell the uspcc non gilded versions on our website for Christmas, but we wouldn't feel right selling them on our site, if we are holding non gilded decks because the gilded versions are running late. Sooooo we are gonna go ahead and eat the shipping cost of spilliting the orders so we can send everyone all rewards minus the gilded and legacy editions, to make sure we are honoring those who pledge for the KS before releasing them on our site. Hope that makes sense."

I had seen that. But it doesn't make any mention of the decks he was planning to release that are based on the original design. He hadn't finished them by the time the Kickstarter went live so he said they would be released separately this year.

Oh duh! He has been pretty non-committal about that OG design. I wouldn't be surprised if he tables it indefinitely to focus on the rest of his stuff. It would be sad if that's the case because it was an incredible aesthetic.

I found a bit more info under the Lord of the Rings - Two Towers discord. There was a comment about the original design and here is Jackson's response:
- Still planning on releasing the two way court card designs?
- Hopefully, have my fingers crossed it is still happening. (Don't tell Jackson, but I like it better than the KS version)
- I do too. I think the two way design was insane.
- It still happening, it will either be a stand alone release or in the two towers Kickstarter (Jackson)
So it looks like we will get the Two Towers soon - likely releasing when he starts fulfilling the non-gilded decks from the fellowship.

Thanks for posting that. I'd seen that too though, as that was posted while the Fellowship Kickstarter was still active, and no updates since. Hopefully it still ends up being true.

I’m also a huge fan of that original design. It really spoke to the LOTR that I’ve carried in my head since first reading the books. I held off on backing the released version, anticipating the other one which I definitely loved more. Really hope it gets made.
Edit: I’ve just gone back to look at some of the earlier illustrations. The Boromir and Goldberry on page two of this thread are sensational.

The latest update from Jackson is that he's aiming to do the Two Towers kickstarter in February. So I suppose we'll find out by then if/when he's doing the original design.
