@daveEdgerly - So, this is a non-traditional deck? KoS has a scepter. You're going with a MardiGas theme and you're not going to have one boob card? Beads = Boobs for some reason in New Orleans.

because it's mardis gras I didn't think it was appropriate for the KoS to have a sword, plus the King of the Krewe of Rex always carries a scepter. only the tourists show their boobs for beads, believe it or not, it's not a mardis gras tradition. I'm doing my version of standard courts so I guess you could say it's a non-traditional deck although it won't be as illustrated as my previous decks.

Myself and other women appreciate the lack of graphicness. Will king cake or the infamous Zulu coconuts make an appearance?

I agree. If he is going with a semi-traditional theme he should have a border on all the courts. The old cards have a border. But when I'm looking at his beads i'm going to be thinking a whole bunch of nipples. Now try to get that out of your head...

Really liking the "K" font. Can't wait to see the Q and J.

Here is my rough of the QoH inspired by the krewe of Iris.

I want to do a rough of the AoS and then I will add color to the cards and work on the tuck.

Lovely queen! Really like it! :) The one observation/suggestion I'd make is in the thorax area. Compared to the King where you can easily make out shoulders, chest and waist. I think it's mainly the large white piece on the far left. Maybe making it a little more narrow so it looks like a cape over her arm perhaps? Kind of looks like she has her hand on her waist and her elbow is sticking out.

Looking great with just the line work! Eager to see the colored versions. :)

Thanks! the hand on the hip thing is kind of what I was going for. I wanted the hand to work both ways and for it to feel like she has on long gloves because all members of that krewe wear gloves and masks when they parade. I think if I move the hand out a bit and make the arm thinner it might work better.

the courts will be colored with purple, green and gold. I'm just using the dark purple color to rough out my designs.

I bet it's hard to work with just 3 colors. I'm sure you can be a little liberal with 2 different shades for each color to help. I see you have two different shades of purple, but your gold seems a bit flat....

Nice start though. I like the detail of the gold half seal and the green vines in the center of the card. More of that please...

I'm with Russell. Even if it's just three colors, some shades of them would definitely help.

Just think how will your seal and mask will look like with metallic gold ink as a stretch goal. And of course get 50 gilded gold from Uusi. :D

I was planning on using metallic ink on the deck from the get go. that's why the gold is darker. the gilded stretch goal might be a good idea though. :D I'll add some detail to the arm and post something soon. thanks!

@daveEdgerly - It's nice, but it will not do. We know what you can do. So far you have shown us green, 2 shades of purple, and 2 shades of gold. One gold of which is going to be metallic. I don't see any metallic on this back. You have to find that happy spot... Don't tease us with this one color back.

in response to that I offer this :)

kept the gold metallic ink and then added a light gold/tan color underneath to give it that ghost paint look.

The sidelines are not for you my friend. You give better advice than I could ever hope to.

@daveEdgerly... I love the last back pic. I hope these are ready to tie in with Mardi Gras. With it being such a big holiday and travel destination, the social media promotion from you and the backers would be a big boost IMHO.

@sprouts, I appreciate your advice, please continue to give it!
@necro, I plan on launching these next month for sure. Mardi Gras falls on Feb. 17th this year, and while there is no way the cards could be printed in time, I feel like the timing for the campaign leading up to the holiday couldn't be better.

I've been working on the tuck case in my spare time and came up with this idea. I hope to use a gold foil for the entire tuck and print on that with the light tan design.

I'm not sure if this is possible and plan on looking in to options at the beginning of next week. I really like the side open tuck that EPCC offers and hope to go with them to print the decks. I'm also considering a limited run of foil back decks as well as the regular metallic ink back decks, and possibly a very limited run of gilded decks.
