the back design is awesome - it makes me think of the Elephant deck... although the elephant deck was surprisingly devoid of elephants
what was I saying?.... I forgot

I've only seen 1 King, Queen and Jack. Are these going to have repeating courts, or are the other 9 just not done yet?

All of the court cards will be different. I haven't finished the other courts yet, I like to complete and post them during the campaign. There will be 4 different Aces and a big and little joker as well.

Ugh, how is this project not funded yet? This would easily be my favorite 'whimsical' deck and the artwork on this is awesome. I just bumped up for a shirt too, something I NEVER do.
What's up? I realize it's an odd theme, but it's so well done I can't see why everybody wouldn't want one. Even if not for a collection, just to play with, because fun.

Maybe because it's not made by USPCC. I'm not picky about EPCC or USPCC but I would have loved for this to be USPCC. I'm still keeping my pledge for now though.

The gorilla background is one-way, it's a problem. But I too like the artwork, and I am a backer.

This deck is great. I've seen a lot of sh*tty projects funded. This one is excellent with a realistic goal. I like the fact EPCC was chosen to print the decks.
If it doesn't reach the funding goal, I hope they try again at a different time. Or just have confidence, print them and sell them off their website.

I don't usually mind either way (EPCC or USPCC), but seeing as this is basically a parody of/homage to the classic Rider Back it just seems a bit "wrong" for it not to be printed by USPCC.

I feel the same way. I would be in on this deck if it were marketed as a Bicycle branded deck with a "Gorilla back" rather than what it is now.

After doing multiple decks with USPCC, I really wanted to give EPCC a try. I honestly didn't think that using EPCC for this deck would be an issue. That being said, I don't believe "who" is printing the cards is the issue either. I'm starting to think that the playing card world just isn't ready for this deck. I've tried multiple add ons, free coins, and cross promotions, and the numbers just won't get moving. I'm not giving up on it, I'm just wondering if there is something I haven't tried.

Everyone knows USPCC is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. I like the parody. Did you hear that? Is that Don from the Discourse? I smell him. I think he is a lurker on the UC. I have to give him credit. He says that a lot about the USPCC...
@daveEdgerly - Nothing wrong with your cards. Your %50 there. You might make it.

People with personal and or financial stakes in the EPCC/LPCC would say things of that nature....

Zane Lamprey (my unofficial hero and man crush), just tweeted a plug for them. Hopefully that helps.

Incidentally, his KS project for his new 'Chug' show was my first KS backing and eventually led me to discover all the great decks available there. See, full circle! Nice.
Pleepleus also made me pledge for this deck as well. Cheeky monkey!

I think it's bad timing. A lot of people are holding back, because there is a lot of stuff in the pipeline this summer from other people. I think that cards look great.
I don't think using EPCC is an issue at all. Many people believe it's preferable, especially if the price comes down.

The artwork on this deck is very well executed. It feels like you may have been marketing not into the correct crowds. It's a given that we want to focus on the true card collectors but it seems like those truly seeking the unusual would almost embrace the deck more. I could see someone paying $20 for this deck in some of my neighborhood boutiques. Some of my friends pay top dollar for that kind of differentiation. This may just be an issue of missing a large supporting demographic? This deck may not be embraced by performing magicians or cardists because of the gorilla faces, but maybe the biggest supporting demographic would be people that actually wanted to play and enjoy the awesome artwork with these out of box with friends, aka the average layman. I would try contacting some blogs that carry similar items to this to get a last push. It's just a guess but it's an action step that could help you close your goal. Best of luck.

My reason for not back was cost. $16ea for 2 decks shipped international is just too high when it is VERY likely that, if funded, the decks would be available from a local retailer for less. It's an unfortunately fact of the business that international mail costs are too high and costs a deck like this pledges. Projects that have multiple decks fare better as they are able to spread the shipping costs over more decks and get the costs down overall per deck. This is one of the factors of my purchasing decision.

This is true for MOST decks on KS though. Sadly.

Thanks for the links and input everyone! Hoping to get this deck moving over the next few days. I guess I take some comfort in hearing that the design isn't the issue, maybe just the concept. @Nate, I actually did the poster and t shirt art for Chug, as well as some of the graphics and animation featured in the episodes.

I got it. Maybe people don't like the one way gorilla heads in the background of the pips. Since the courts are custom, the number pips can just remain normal.

This project is now cancelled.
From their latest KS update:
"After much discussion we have decided to cancel funding for the Gorilla Deck. We don't feel that we are going to reach our goal in the next couple of days based on the numbers that we have been doing, and rather than have the project be unsuccessful, we feel that this is the best course of action.
We plan on revisiting our goal of $10,000.00. We feel that if we restructure our stretch goals, we can bring the total goal down to $6,000.00. The add ons will be offered as unlocks at $8,000.00 and $10,000.00 and hopefully this allows us to hit our goal sooner. We feel that if we can hit our goal early on, more backers will join the project knowing that the deck will be produced and that this will allow us to eventually produce both decks with all of the embellishments that we hope for.
We won't be changing the deck design, as we feel that the design works and has been received well by the card collecting community. We feel that its just a timing issue.
We are very sorry that this is happening and hope that you, the backers will be interested in backing us in the future when we relaunch the Gorilla Deck! Thank you all so much for your support!"
Is $6000 enough to fund a deck using EPCC, AND ship them all out to the backers??? I don't think it's the $10,000 that's the problem... it could just be what the other users are saying - you gotta advertise in the right places. With Dawn of the Planet of the Apes coming out, maybe that would help this deck out if you market it that way? I don't know
Dave, I hope this project succeeds on the second time round. I would definitely back this deck again.

$6,000.00 is enough to print 1000 decks and ship them to all of the backers as well as cover the percentage to kickstarter and amazon. The original $10,000.00 covered the add ons as well. Not to mention to reach 6,000.00 you only need 200-300 backers. I feel like advertising in the right places will help, but ultimately to me, reaching your goal early is the best way to be more successful on kickstarter. I also feel like timing was an issue. Heretic and Muertos were running at the same time and between the two of them, they had most of the backers and card money on kickstarter. Thank you so much for your support, Godzillian!

That stinks, but glad to see you have a plan and plan to relaunch. When might that be?
Too bad you already used your 'Zane card', but perhaps the drunk crowd isn't ideal demographic (they are monkey/gorilla fans though).

I wanted to see a side-by-side (top/bottom) view of them and yes I can say this is MUCH better. Before it was a fun parody style look, but kinda looked odd and almost like a cheap knockoff or something (worked though because parody). This looks awesome now though. If they don't go for it they should punch themselves in the face repeatedly. If they say anything about 'devaluing the brand' or say no and also throw a warning to not produce as parody either then a giant
Hopefully it will be approved because this will alleviate any concerns about CaD and appease those who really wanted a Bike branded deck. Right approach.
