I'm not buying these but I love the creation process where she snips and pastes the cards. Really cool.

Wouldnt be able to play with them, but an uncut might look nice on the wall.

Hi Soleil.
I like your deck ,very interesting.
The uncut sheet you`ve posted has different cards to the ones shown before (i.e King of Clubs ,Ace of Hearts ,2 spades etc) Are the cards on the uncut the one`s your going ahead with or is the uncut shown just a mock up to give us an idea of what it would look like? -Jase- :D

Hello Jase,

Wow, very attentive of you! Actually the images that you are referring to are pictures of my design process… There are captions on kickstarter that didn't make it over here - it makes more sense there :)
The digital renderings are the ones that will be printed.
I hope this makes sense :) Let me know if you have any other questions...

The uncut sheet has convinced me to add this deck to my collection. I've done some work with printers and this sheet will look great on the wall - yes it messes with my head too! :o

The deck... welll.. you could never play with it - but I don't think all decks are really for that - it's like Staunton Chess in that way.

just my two cents!

Our interview with Soleil Zumbrunn. I really liked the inspiration behind the deck.

The Glitch video you did that this is apparently based off is super cool. This is definitely a different design for cards and the design makes them unplayable, but super neat addition to a collection. It almost looks like it's moving! Hopefully you make improvements on the tuckbox to make it more trippy like the cards and add the name of the deck to the front.

I'm also glad to see you corrected the error on the number of $1 pledges available from 500 to 50. I was quite concerned about that from a trust perspective and also for your own wallet and project success. It says $1 or more, but should include 'fair' shipping. I'm guessing that means you may have gotten anything from $1-$10, but you really should have (and still should) give guidelines on that. $2 for shipping in US and $1-2 for the deck cost and really means a minimum pledge should be $3 or $4 and $6-8 is ideal for international? Not to mention an optional courtesy few extra dollars so you're getting something out of them and not just shipping for cost. I originally just did $3, but will add more if my assumptions are wrong and since you have taken the time to post here raising trust level.

Glad you added uncuts too, but unfortunately I'm already pretty well over my limit on space for those.

On her website - http://alien.ch/home/. It's a bit too artsy for my typical tastes, but the effects are something I haven't seen before in this way. I'm sure it has some deep meaning behind it and all kinds of symbolism, but I am quite happy with my apparent lack of culture. ;) I just found it interesting, that's enough for me.

Here it is directly

Thank you so much for the feedback! The "pay as you wish" was a very interesting experiment and insight into humanity :)

I lost faith in humanity a long time ago. Did anyone pay more than they had to?

I can't speak for the Glitch project but when I do micro-game projects in conjunction with my card projects on Kickstarter I do them as "Pay What you Want" and for me it works well. I don't have the minimum pledge amount set so low I lose money. For example, the Glitch people have $1 as a minimum pledge and we all know that's not enough to even pay for the manufacturing of the cards let alone shipping costs, KS fees, etc. With my last microgame Enigma (based on WWII code cracking) I set the minimum pledge at $4 with a suggested pledge of $6. The $4 is enough to make the game, ship the game, pay all the fees and leave a tiny meat on the bone for me. The $6 is enough to give me a little more meat on the bone. In my experience about half the backers will give you a little extra towards their pledge.
I thought about doing a Pay What You Want card project where the minimum is $8 a deck but even then it's risky.

just checked out the video again... even the sound FX are spot on. I like the attention to detail, there's more to this deck and project than meets the eye at first glance. Not my cup of tea, but it's good to shake things up once in a while, and rattle the drums. I won't look at the old Bicycle decks the same anymore!

There were a handful of people who pledged a single dollar, but looking at the average of the 50 domestic and 25 international pledges it worked out number wise :) I am glad I tried it - people are (perhaps surprisingly :) supportive and considerate…

Godzillian wrote:My eyes hurt. I appreciate the work & effort that the creator put in... but this is a terrible idea. Why would you create a deck of cards that no one wants to do poker or magic with, because the cards hurt everybody's eyes? I guess as an art deck, this may appeal to niche collectors... but I don't think that niche is large enough to fill up her goal.
I know I said this, but I hope you do make it. For me, looking at the cards is a pain, and I don't like them as individuals. But frankly, I think that the uncut sheet is the prime piece of artwork here. I would rather get the uncut sheet rather than the cards themselves... and this is coming from a person who doesn't collect uncut sheets!

I decided to sell my original hand designed art cards with their twin USPCC printed card. Kickstarter backers choice of value and suit. Signed by the artist, me :)

The cards are beautifully framed and ready to display.

A one-of-a-kind work of Art!
