It's ok, I saw those blogs and I understand better and I was wrong. A better question is how anyone makes a living via kickstarter projects? I don't think it's going to be long before many realize it's not financially feasible to make a living this way and perhaps there will be a lot less of them on ks.

I think it's a valid question, and the answer is that I don't make a living doing it. The company is now self-sustaining but I live off of my savings and have for the past couple years. I enjoy doing it though and we have the potential to do some great things in the next couple years, so I stick with it. In some ways I think it's bad when project creators see something like The Name of the Wind because they think they'll be able to retire, not realizing that none of the money actually goes to the creator on something like that. Kickstarter is a good place to get things made, but not a great place to get rich. For that, you are absolutely correct in that following a more traditional business methodology is the way to go.

My biggest gripe with KS projects is the tease! It's almost painful to see a "preview" of an upcoming deck that you have to wait 5+ months to get a hold of. 1st world problem, I know. But I'm an impatient American :)

What a pity I cannot purchase one as I live in Spain.

If anyone wants to do me a favour and pledge for me, please PM. I would appreciate it.

Big fan of the goonies since I was a little boy.

I was amazed as well. $15 for an unlimited and $40 for both limited and unlimited. what will be the final count on the limited deck? I sure hope it's not 2500.

Appears that they were only able to get the license for the US. I have ordered some and will have them shipped to a friend in the US who can forward them on to me.

So here's a question, why launch this if you don't have international rights "yet" as stated on the project page? Why not just wait until you have those rights? I mean people outside the US are going to get these anyway via resellers so the whole doesn't even make much sense but if the licensee thinks making it US only is going to do anything, more power to them, lol.

It's very possible that the person holding the US rights doesn't have the US rights to sell and he (Eric) may have to negotiate with someone else.

That said there are some issues with this project;

1. No way to know how many limited decks are being produced. If > 1000 then $25 is a big amount to charge.
2. Is the LE just a tuck change? Again, if so $25 is far too much.
3. No way to get more than one limited deck without using multiple accounts. Suggest creating a pledge level with 2 UL and 2 LE.
4. For a change can we get an Albino Dragon coin without the logo on one side? I have quite a lot of them now and I'd like to see something different like a true double sided coin

Depending on how the original copyrights were handled, it's possible that international copyrights is not owned by Time Warners or it's joint owned or whatever. For example, some anime series in Japan are own exclusively by Bandai, but when they licensed it for North American distribution, those properties ended up being in the hands of a bunch of company instead of one. Navigating copyrights can be a nightmare and that's specifically why there are people that solely deal with that.

I think it's very likely to be the same tuck, just a back change (colour or different back).

just thought of something. the licensing might not have been cheap, but i still think the price is a pretty high.

It's not possible to pledge out of USA ?

Nope, unfortunately not.

And yes i'm guessing it is expensive because of the licencing.

Since it seems they are working on getting international rights, I still think they could and maybe should have waited until they had that. No reason to hurry up and launch a project available to American backers since that only upsets international backers and they may not come back for the next one.

I'll watch this movie since I've never seen it before. This reminds me of the Steampunk Pirates deck because of the layout.

I think the AD logo is still going to be on the reverse of the coin.

Truly a cult classic. Many one-liners. Which is why I am skeptical about this deck coming off to "novelty." I'm curious to see how a children's movie with such a cult following can be transformed into a deck of cards that doesn't look like it belongs hanging from a cheap rack in a gift store.

I guess you can say I'm judging a book by its cover here but who knows- I could be pleasantly surprised.

Funny you should say that, since the creator of Steampunk Pirates (Nat Iwata) is doing the art.

Got my deck today. Seeing it in person agrees with my assumption that it would be one that I had to have due to theme only, even if it didn't blow me away. The quality and artwork is fine, but these kinds of decks are just so cheesy. Still had to have it though!

Also promptly added to http://playingcarddb.com 8-)

Damn that was quick! The ETA was for November and someone else on KS (unless it's you) said they got their deck.

Don't remember the survey, but I got my deck. (ordered just one, because, hey, I loved the movie!)

I'm not sure if I'll open the deck yet, but once I find the movie and show my sons, I may have to.

I did just have a single unbranded deck. Perhaps those with coins, uncuts or the branded deck are delayed (not early)? No updates though about delays or shipping which is odd.
