Believe it or not, I was actually hoping the court cards and the aces would bail out this deck because Bruce Lee was so cool and bad ass, but these courts and aces may be some of the worst I've ever seen. Where is the design in this deck? They rehash an already existing back design, photoshop stock pictures of Bruce Lee on the Jokers with white backgrounds that don't match the rest of the deck (I mean, come on, are they really going to make Bruce Lee a joker?!?), and put ZERO effort into the court cards and aces. Laziest deck ever. And then D$D have the balls to charge $15 for this uninspired disaster!!! I have a feeling there's going to be 5,000 overpriced Bruce Lee decks taking up space in their warehouse next to the 50,000 re-printed S&M decks they also can't sell out.

I suspect the hefty price comes from the licensing fees that they are paying in order to secure the blessings of the BL estate. The Princess Bride deck is playing in the same ball park.

this deck is so boring. just a black line? with quotes? no aces? no court faces? AND $15, what a joke.

Well, I'd say that this deck definitely follows part of May's definition of shibui. It exhibits "effortless effectiveness" at preventing me from buying them. (I could not find "tacky" or "insulting" anywhere in the definition, but they're that too.)
(But, what...what if it's not a money grab? What if they actually think these are good?....I mean, they're approaching Stephen Rooks levels of bad.)

This isn't Rooks level, this is Merz level.

This isn't true. They couldn't sell out their box sets, so they broke them up. They still couldn't sell them out, so they sold them in bulk quantities to resellers like Touch of Modern (who sold the sets at lower prices than D$D) and still didn't sell out. They've been available for over a year now and they're still available for sale on D$D's site and they still heavily promote the sets in every email newsletter they put out trying to sell these out. I'm sure one day we'll finally see the reprints sold out....only to see them available again once the twins find some more sets in their attic/closet/basement/colons several months later. And then they'll reprint the reprints that they promised never to reprint.

That's why i said "most", take a look on d&d website, mirror and smoke colors are sold out. You can get them only if you buy a box. I'm sure the 3 other colors will sell out before christmas.

I don't think they spent more than three hours to "design" this...

Every Smoke&Mirrors deck. But I have to agree with you about this one. That's the least effort put in a deck I've seen in a while. They even used a back design that already existed.

Not sure if this will be a new topic or if anyone is interested....but Version 2 is out...
This solidifies my point of same %#@ different box..literally..
In 2013 we teamed up with Bruce Lee Enterprises to produce a new deck of playing cards inspired by the martial arts master. Although they quickly sold out,
this second edition has been updated with new quotes and features a brand new box design that showcases the unique quality of the cards.
"The possession of anything begins in the mind" and with these official Bruce Lee playing cards.
Featuring 52 philosophical quotes from the master of martial arts, Bruce Lee.

No need to apologize, whoever actually buys this exploitive garbage should be made fully aware of his idiocy! I'm proud to say I never got the first edition, so I don't know what the differences are in the 2nd version, but from what I can see, I'm even less motivated to have this deck contaminate my card collection....

The third edition will take quotes from Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (same color scheme, because The Bride wears Bruce Lee's jacket.)
"My name is Buck. And I'm here to [redacted]."

It's really more of a "third in a series" and that's the way I think of it.
There was Fulton's China Town - that sold out. There was also a special "game of death" edition of that deck - same back, but normal faces. The game of death deck was then redesigned as THIS deck. Not to mention that this deck was also commissioned by Bruce Lee.com, meaning it's a collaboration of minds.
I don't know if you've seen it, but there was an earlier "official" Bruce Lee deck printed by Aquarius - it was just photographs of Bruce Lee, but... the quotes are on THAT deck also - which makes me think that was the contribution by Bruce Lee.com (but what do I know?)
