I think it would be far more suspicious if they insisted on Twitpicing yourself in order to get the cards, but it's optional.

Seems more like a pretty basic promo - a reletively inexpesive giveaway nets them some names, addresses and emails, and some twitter exposure to boot.

(I never got an email back anyway.)

Got my package in today as well, haven't opened the cards yet, but it contained a deck of cards, lanyard and some pamphlets. Always down for free swag so I'm not complaining.

Oh, cards are printed by the USPCC.

Got 'em, opened 'em, will definitely play with 'em.
The tuck is embossed, very nice looking, professional design if you accept the fact that it's advertising.
The number cards are all standard, the courts are all custom (although the customization is subtle).
I like the way that they customized the courts. At first glance, the courts look standard. When you look closer (if you look closer), you'll find some words in the royal courts' clothing, or their scepter has been turned into a scale or control from the Firehost products' dashboard.
Great news: They didn't modify the courts by Photoshopping in some trinket or picture (like a router)--instead everything is illustrated so there's a consistent, classic and professional aesthetic in all the artwork.
Yes it's advertising SWAG, but it's professionally-designed SWAG.

One last thing: I didn't even get my email until a couple of *weeks* after other people did. So if you haven't gotten yours yet, don't be discouraged. Clearly, they're sending these out over time ... not in a single batch. Oh yeah ... maybe because I included my shipping info from the start, I got my email on one day and the cards arrived the next.

Yesterday (Sept 10th) I received the deck, without any forewarning of which I was aware. Interestingly, it was tagged as postage due ($.35), which was odd, given that it was clearly meter stamped. I'm more likely to suspect a mistake on my Post Office's part than on their part, but who knows?

Inside the package, one deck and one lanyard and nothing else.

Did a search through my Inbox (nothing), spam folder (nothing), and my deleted folder (3 found) on the name "firehost". The three e-mails I found all had a subject line announcing a Webinar concerning "business continuity." I receive a lot of spam e-mail that my spam filter doesn't catch regarding various business webinars, so I just delete them on site without even thinking about it.

Also: I typically set up special e-mail boxes whenever I give out my e-mail address so that I can get a general (or specific) idea of how I end up on spam lists. In this case, the three e-mails in question were definitely the result of signing up on this deck promotion list.

Later, an e-mail that had been sent last Saturday showed up in my deleted folder; this was the "show us your poker face" e-mail. Again, I must have manually deleted it without thinking about it, as it resembled other junk e-mail that I get on a regular basis.

Nothing about this should surprise anybody; it certainly doesn't surprise me. I was willing to take the risk, and so far, the e-mails they've sent have been innocuous enough. There is an "unsubscribe" link, which I suppose I'll eventually click to see if it works (I suspect it will). I have no beef with the company for sending these e-mails -- that was the unspoken deal, after all: we'll give you our marketing swag cards in exchange for you letting us send you some other marketing materials as well. Fair enough.

The lanyard is nice enough, and I would use it if only it had a break-away feature like the one I currently use for work. (My employer is currently showing some concern for our safety, so the break-away lanyards are easy to come by.)

This deck is an interesting promotion on their part. I'll be curious to know how successfully it accomplishes their marketing objectives. That said... hey, I got a nice deck in the mail. :)

(edited to fix a typo)

Just got an email from them "By now, they have probably arrived (international deliveries may take a bit longer). So, if you haven’t done it yet, join the movement by showing us your best poker face on Twitter or Facebook using hashtag #FireHostFaces. "

They really wanna see us.

Wow, I cannot believe that I missed this chance to get a free deck! If Theory11 ever starts selling them, I'd absolutely like to pick some up. I'm a freelance IT nerd and these look really cool to show my friends. :D

If dealing with the emails from Firehost is too much of a hassle for free cards, you could always buy them from this guy on ebay.

Time to get me some Jerry's Nuggets - I registered ten email addresses!

Nah I'm just kidding. They probably wouldn't have shipped ten decks to the same address in Singapore.

I got mine today. Well made, apart from the borders being too thick. One thing that caught my attention was the "Series 3" on the front of the box. Have they made other decks before this one?
