You're acting like theory11 is the only company that does this. Literally every card brand you know including the beloved Kickstarter brands that people here love put their special edition deck behind a box set and not individually. If they came out with the deck individually but had a high price tag then you'd complain also. And if they came out with a bunch of them for everyone to get then it's not really a special edition is it. So pick your poison, it's how business works.laitostarr777 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 8:38 pm Another of T11 evil scheme… typical

Then do both. Give people options. But yes, from a business standpoint, it makes sense.antifaro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 9:12 pmYou're acting like theory11 is the only company that does this. but honestly what Im even less a fan of is a non-card items to get it
see tomorrow's example
(though I have no idea what the difference is going to be vs the normal gilded versions, there are 3 in the marketing email, normal, gilded and "legacy")
To future campaign designers, I have been known to just skip an entire campaign over such tactics.
Well, ARK would be the most frequent offender based on your words: even the Standard Edition, you have to get them in a set boxEvilgamer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 9:39 pm Im not a fan of "buy the crap edition to get the one you want"

It's probably the frustration MOST would agree with me. I am fine with "a special edition" locked behind a set, AS LONG the price is justified. But again, T11 set box prices just never justified for me. To makes matters worse: the shipping to my country, that USED to be affordable, now is double the price and I can no longer bought from them directly ever again - makes me missed their Billionaire Club, Notorious BIG, and maybe the latest Eleven Madison and the WB 100.antifaro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 9:12 pm You're acting like theory11 is the only company that does this. To each their own, if the price for this new one is $100 then an extra $35 or so for a box set that actually has a magical effect would actually be justifiable. Manufacturing for this kind of thing is tricky, since it's not just a simple box that just opens and closes. It probably costs more than you think to make due to the hidden mechanics. Shipping unfortunately has gotten ridiculous across the board due to inflation and international regulations making it more costly to import, that's not a conscious decision by theory11 to extort money in shipping from you. Losing respect for a card company by making playing cards that reach new eyes and bring them into the community is kind of a laughable take though.laitostarr777 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 2:47 am It's probably the frustration MOST would agree with me. Honestly, I started to lose my respect to T11 at this point. From what I've seen, movie collabs tend to go for this direction.
Ah that makes sense, yeah the EU and their new shipping regulations and tax requirements are pretty absurd. Makes it so much harder to import international goods at a decent price :/HFMJ wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 11:37 am Romania, EU
For 1 deck the shipping is 23$ and taxes 7$(VAT is 19% in my country).
For 1 deck and the set the shipping jumps to 57$ plus 19% taxes for the whole amount.
I didn't even want the set, but the WB deck is nice.
Maybe Penguin or someone else will have it. No rush in getting it now
Studio on Fire wrote:Harry Potter Tuck Cases
Theory11 teamed up Mattson Creative to design these Harry Potter themed playing cards. The amount of intense detailing in this project made these incredibly fun to produce (oh man, do we have some Harry Potter nerds amongst us), but also challenging, as tiny areas of knocked-out foil isn’t the easiest thing to pull off. We are proud of how these turned out, our expert staff was able to hold on to the smallest details through multiple foil passes and a sculptural emboss.
These require many trips through the press: once for the interior pattern inside (foil) and three times on the outside (two foil colors + the emboss), then a diecut… and then again for fold/glue. That means each tuck case passed through a minimum of 6 presses in our studio and with four different color-ways, meaning four different paper colors and foil combinations; it’s a true testament to the amount of teamwork it takes between our planning team and pressfolks to successfully accomplish these intricate projects.
This project required multiple types of paper. The blue deck was produced with Mohawk, in Carnival Deep Blue. The green deck was done with Mohawk, in Via Forest Green. The Gold/Brown deck was done with Neenah Classic Crest in Canyon Brown. Lastly, the red tuck was the most unique, using letterpress printing to create a custom color on Neenah Classic Crest.
All of these tucks were foil stamped three times (once on the inside and twice on the outside) and hit with a heavy emboss. They were also diecut and folded/glued before being sent off to meet the playing cards at a fulfillment center.
