I know Lorenzo's had a *moderately* successful Kickstarter to get his head around, but is there any news here?? Feels like ages since there's been an 'update'.

There have been a few extras mentioned on Patreon.

Because this is being produced as Portfolio52's debut deck, my guess is that this will launch on 17 October, to coincide with National Playing Card Collection Day.

And perhaps that also means that it will serve as this year's NPCCD deck, instead of a creation from Alex Chin himself.

Inclined to agree. We would have heard something by now -- I'm 99% certain -- if Alex had anything in the NPCCD pipeline. He might pull something out of the hat. Maybe his stolen laptop got returned and this year's design is last year's initial....

It's half cheating but i'll allow it.

Would be a bummer if into P52 turned UC deck would as well replace the NPCCD decks.

Honestly I wish Odd Fellows was still the annual UC deck instead unless there are plans to rebrand UC to P52.

I too wish that the UC annual deck was being continued.
No harm in there being an annual P52 deck as well though!

Also, if I remember correctly, There was no mention of last year's NPCCD deck until a couple of days beforehand (or was it the previous year, can't quite remember now).

Not disagreeing, but as I said earlier, Alex would have at least put out a teaser or 2 by now and there's no update to the official site. I know I'm making assumptions, but there's little else to draw on.

Especially since he didn't tease it like in the past at the 52+J convention.

looking back to older NPCCD, i honestly don't think Oddfellow is similar enough in both theme and execution to be a NPCCD release. There might not be a NPCCD this year or a delayed one but it won't be Oddfellow.

Is there really? Well that's annoying.

I would've thought a P52 deck would be wholly available to ALL P52 users, S17 patrons or not...

Just as an FYI, there is typically an exclusive deck version or two in each S17 Patreon rewards. Sometimes there might be a few extras like the Eye of the Ocean Quartermaster. So, the Patreon version might be available in limited numbers. If so, those will sell out in a fraction of a second for sure. Honestly, I have not regretted being a Patreon backer. Heck I have seen some of the rewards from last year sell for over $1k. Talk about good value. Lorenzo just auctioned one set of last year's reward with the frame for over $1k and the second auction for a partial set of last year's rewards, including the frame and quartermaster is already over $1k.Incredible.

We are in the "glorious" comic book age of playing cards or let's better say already were for ~2 years now. Tuck swaps, reprints, artificially rare exclusives are the norm 🤷🏿‍♀️. It is what it is. Sucks just for me that I like the Patreon exclusive tuck box the most.

You can't really blame creators to milk the cow as long as it gives milk (not saying it doesn't annoy me as well).
Not gonna lie, if I were in there shoes (creators that can drop turds and people still pay hundreds on eBay), I would be probably the worst of them all, I would even sell my super rare editions on eBay myself; like dropping 10 on my website and then trickle 20 via eBay into the market afterwards - one at a time.

Patreon is about supporting creators and potetially getting something in return, including gifts, special offers and behind the scenes insights. How exactly is that "milking the cow"?

Honestly don't get some of the reactions on here. Fontaine's sure... those are just recolours for variants over and over. Puttig Lorenzo in that category is pretty shocking.

Just because the design is better the Quartermaster or Patronum are different to e.g. the 500 or Kogan Cult alternative? Pretty biased way to look at things, imo but mileage may vary.

Yes? Patrons are spending money monthly on a blind reward, a limited subscription doesn't seem like it compares at all to Fontaine's regular business model

Both make money by selling cards with more or less limited editions that's the regular business model dunno where the difference is (designs aside of course, lol).
Lorenzo wants to incentivise people to join his Patreon and therefore creates limited items. Dunno why some see it a strech to call that milking it 🤷🏿‍♀️.
Nothing wrong with milking it... well, unless you're vegan.

Did we mention auctioning off your own artificial scarce items? 🤔

Surprised for the Odd Fellows to have a Patreon's only version. Initially this was going to be UC sponsored(?) and I don't think any of the previous UC decks had a separate version by the respective creator as their exclusive/Patreon's only version. Granted now this is a P52 sponsored/by P52 deck, I was under the impression there would not be any other "exclusive" version (which granted to Bradius point, some might make it to KS in limitted numbers). But of well, I shouldn't have been under this impression and should have expected the creator to have a different version for their exclusive supporters/Patreon's.

So you're gonna sell your IAOCP V2 for your own cost then? Or are you gonna milk it?

Yea that's what I mean, I have nothing against patreon versions I support Gios, but having a commission deck with a separate version not available just seems 'odd' 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well I imagine the Patronium version was not part of the original commission and was just something extra Lorenzo wanted to make.

Honestly, folks I am sure Lorenzo discussed a Patron's only version of Odd Fellows with P52/Mike well before he even mentioned it to Patreon members. Patreon members didn't have any idea that was coming when we signed on to back Lorenzo for 2021. I still don't know what thing is going to be special for Kings Level Patreon members this year. This year it just says "Extra LTD items". Last year it was the handmade frame. I would back Lorenzo even if he scribbled "Sucker" on a napkin...well, that might get me a little upset. Although seeing what his stuff sells for these days, I might be able to turn a profit on that stupid napkin

I agree with Strag on this discussion.

As for selling some of his odd items off on auction like prototypes and such. More power to him. Would I pay the kind of money he can get in an auction for it? Probably not. Do I complain that he is selling them? Why should I? It isn't like he is putting a gun to the heads of the collector's that are buying them. Just like he didn't put a gun to my head to select an insane order for Eye of the Ocean Kickstarter. I am thrilled with my order and can't wait to get that crate in the mail. I kinda miss the special package deals he used to do, but it is probably partially my fault he started using the Kicksstarter add on feature as he couldn't create a package big enough for me.

I am going to say the same thing about all playing card producers. If you don't like their marketing practices and that really sours you, don't buy their stuff (or reduce it significantly). Maybe they will change their ways, but probably not.

I'm not throwing a fit or anything, just voicing an opinion that I'm disappointed there's an exclusive version of a deck I was really looking forward to that I won't be able to get without spending stupid money 🤷🏻‍♂️ nothing wrong with an opinion and I'm not holding it again him, I'll still be supporting this and future projects, but I'm allowed to voice that opinion lol
