It's been an awesome day today. Lots of goodies! Another home run for Jackson. First time I buy one of the coins and it did not disappoint! And DotD decks which I'm very happy about as well. :)

I got a pair of delightfully retro tarots with a touch of contemporary humor that I just couldn't pass up. I'm sure you guys will get a kick out of them. :)

The zombie one is pretty gruesome but really funny. Plus I love the ammo box case. And the housewife one is borderline sexist but quite funny nonetheless. Designed like one of those little recipe boxes with tabs and everything.

If anyone is interested, Amazon is your best bet. They have them for a really good price.

Just received a mixed brick of A.Dougherty Triplicate Playing Cards from Michael Scott over at Home run games. Thought I would post a few photos, since I haven't seen any yet. Sorry for the poor photos and bad lighting and all that. I'm not a photographer.

Okay, this is a little involved...

Here is an email I sent to my friend "Venka" about it:
Venka:

Here's the rest of what I was chatting with you about the other day when Mr. Venka had the audacity to interrupt us (chattus interruptus?) The nerve of some people! :D

I was telling you that I saw my stepson Ian playing a video game called "Red Dead Redemption" on his PlayStation in our living room.

The game is a Wild-West-themed FPS (First Person Shooter) interspersed with hands of Poker.

As I watched, I - not surprisingly - became very interested in the playing cards used in the game, as they featured courts with what can best be described as Wild West zombies. I wondered if the publishers of the game might have made an actual, physical deck of them (The artwork on the cards in the game was so detailed that it seemed likely that an actual deck would have been produced from them).

Later that evening, I searched eBay for "Red Dead Redemption Playing Cards" and sure enough, there they were! I immediately purchased one.

Two weeks later, I had yet to receive a Notice of Shipment, so I sent the seller an eBay message asking if there was a problem.

I got no reply, but the status on the item now showed that it had an Estimated Delivery Date between July 21 - July 24.

On August 6th, I had yet to receive the item and once again sent an eBay message to the seller, saying that I had yet to receive the item and asking again if there was a problem.

I got no reply. Since I had sent that message under the category of "I have not received the item" it automatically opened an eBay "case" against the seller. This encourages the seller to resolve the problem, because they can lose certain eBay status and privileges if they have more than a certain number of unresolved cases against them.

After another week went by with no response from the seller, I escalated the "case" by phoning eBay's Custpmer Support Problem Resolution Center.

I explained the situation, and they verified what of it they could (they have access to the eBay messages between the Buyer and the Seller) and ruled the "case" in my favor. Since the purchase was covered by eBay's Buyer Protection Plan, they immediately issued a full refund (including Shipping charges) to my PayPal account.

I immediately got back on eBay and purchased another Red Dead Redemption deck, which should arrive any day now.

As I believe that I mentioned in our recent chat, I have purchased more than two hundred items through eBay (mostly decks of playing cards) over the past seventeen years, and this is the first time that I have had this happen (my never receiving an item I'd purchased). All in all, a pretty good track record for eBay!

-Robert (rslancastr@aol.com
And another one:
Venka:

Right after I sent you the previous email (the first time), I went out and checked our mail box, and there was the Red Dead Redemption deck! I'm attaching one of my "grids" - scans of a few cards from the deck.

Although the courts aren't quite what I'd remembered them to be (they are more skeletons than zombies, and the only thing "Wild West" about them is perhaps the style in which they are drawn, and the faux "aged" look - I had remembered them as wearing Wild West attire).

I thought it an odd choice that the deck's box (on the far right in the "grid") does not include the words "Red Dead Redemption", but they ARE on the sides of the box, in red.

While the deck DEFINITELY is of my favorite "type" of deck (it has custom/non-standard courts), it hardly seems worth all of the drama it took to obtain it (opening the "case" against the first seller, ordering it a second time), but I like the way I found out about it (seeing the cards in my stepson's video game)!

Best,

-Robaire (rslancastr@aol.com)

Eoghann, I love both of those Tarot decks!

I have probably eight or ten Tarot decks in my collection, my favorite being "Tarot for Cats".

I love me some skeleton cards. :)

That RDR deck I got the deluxe edition from Rockstar's website (game dev) http://www.rockstarwarehouse.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; quite a while ago. They still have them in stock by the looks of it. Hope you didn't pay too much for it on eBay. Although Rockstar is pretty killer with the shipping.

And I remembered you mentioning you the x men tarot deck a while ago. Which I envy you for.

I do love that Marvel tarot deck. Too bad anyone that's willing to sell it wants an arm leg and kidney for it. I can spare the arm and leg, but only got one good kidney so I'm out of the running.

Man, hardcore, chach! I gotz a few toys, but already seen them, so I won't make you suffer my bad photography. Bicycle Bones, Muertos ×4 pairs, a couple of Jackson's Independence presentation sets with those nice display decks. Couple of more 40-card Dondorf skat (I think?) sets, No 8s, 9s or 10s. The pair are their #110 red & blue - like new condition with OB1 and the other is a little odd - made for Wulff in København and "Med Enteret" is with exclusive, more or less - that one is a standard bridge (but wide cards?) 54-card deck. Of course Euro-decks of that period were all metric and road right down the middle at what in English would be almost exactly 2 3/8" width. Some of the even older ones are 10 x 5 metric - close enough to 4" tall x 2" wide - twice as tall as wide. Looking at the tucks you would never guess what inside. Quite simple one color backs? Several decks like l"Hombre and Luxeskarte were made only for Wulff at one point, all vintage 1920 & antique 1910 decks collector's finest Bavarian 12 color cards, arguably the finest ever made. I've seen them, but like the Hundertjahrkart, just a bit pricey!

(I swear. I am stumped. Those are both vertical on my phone - and I still haven't seen my Triplicates)

That last one with the maiden and the cherub is really cool Mike!

Got some cool goodies today myself. Hotcakes and Triplicates still nowhere in sight though! :(

Yep, that's the actual backs on both the red & blue Dundorf #110 (40-card) decks. I agree - nice pair of 1920's decks, and both are in mint condition except the boxes are worn. The cards appear to never have been used and definitely haven't been shuffled.
Eoghann wrote:Got some cool goodies today myself. Hotcakes and Triplicates still nowhere in sight though! :(
Still none for me (Triplicates) although I got my 'custom brick' of Hotcakes about a week ago. They say they were 95% complete a couple of days ago, so it should be there any day, now. I got my uncuts yesterday.

The decks turned out really well, and those uncuts are both quite nice, with that full bleed back and the courts all glancing around at one another. ;)

Decided to pick up a few 80s era cigarette decks since they had custom courts and were cheap.

I like the Camel cards above. Is there a hidden message? You could go farther and says his lips look like a vagina and the cigarette is penetrating. I love the art of subliminal messaging, but it's not subliminal if you make it obvious. A vagina and a dick and balls all in the same image. I love it! All he needs now is the word "SEX" somewhere. http://subliminalmanipulation.blogspot. ... ng-in.html

I think people see what they want to see. Freud would have a field day with everyone that's complained about 'ol Joe though.

@chach - You really don't see that Joe Camel's lips are like a ****? Hmmm. Most lips are drawn horizontally. Look above the cigarette. Do you see anything that may hint of a ****? Or do you see a wavy lip?

I see a caricature of a Camel. Not much more.

Maybe we should have these posts moved to a new thread in the general section so we don't derail this one any more

Where did you find cheap Virginia Slims? They're well-known in the cardistry world, thin but good stock and great finish.
