Excellent! I already received a response from my contact in Club 808 stating that they liked the ideas and had passed them along to management. Each person that makes the same suggestion counts, I'm sure. If you haven't already made your voice heard, go ahead and log into Club 808 and make your suggestion(s). Mine was two-fold: to have the "Escape Map" deck reprinted with an uncut sheet available exclusively for Club 808 and that they have Jackson do a truly Limited Edition deck of 1000 also for Club 808.

Now that would be a top seller, no doubt!

Booty from the postman: first off this week, I finally found a good quality Steamboat #999 deck of the 1885 printing, and it is one of the rarer green decks. Most people know that they print red & blue varieties of most of the popular decks, but when they started they printed brown and green back versions, also. The green ones are almost always the hardest to find. Eventually they quit printing brown and green and stuck with red & blue backs.

This is Hochman's US7-j, so tagged because the very first decks didn't have jokers (about 1881) but the decks printed in 1883 & 1885 did. The Joker itself is a controversial one these days simply because it is now considered politically incorrect. In this particular case the Joker alone by itself is as valuable as the deck without it, so if you have the deck with the Joker intact it's worth twice what it is without it. I'm going to go $350 in this condition with the Joker, which is actually in better shape than the rest of the cards, likely because of the fact that being new, most of the time the Joker was either set aside (and usually lost) or it was kept in the tuck and when the rest of the cards were put back, the result was that you have a deck with a pristine Joker even if the rest of the deck is "lovingly used".
tmp_20140530_182744-11599383644.jpg
Next up a 1909 deck of the Fred Harvey "The Great Southwest", with The Lookout Ace of Spades (Hochman S26a). It is the earliest deck that I know of that has metallic ink on the card backs, and being more than 100 years old - that's been around for a long time! Really nice portraits of Hopi, Navaho and other Native Americans. Fred Harvey was a tour guide that did tours of the Grand Canyon area in the 1900's, teens and twenties. As is typical of decks made around this time period, the deck has great gold edges, and in this case my guide shows that I have 95%+ of the original gold applied.

Diba's Surena (Persian) bricks came today, but I already posted pix in that thread, so I won't repost them here. She did a fantastic job of presentation and wrapped her bricks in Kraft paper sealed with a red wax seal. Nice!

The next group is all British, mostly Waddington, and mostly Patience sized decks that are still sealed. All have the original cellophane, most have the tax overwrap, also. One pair still has the gold edged Patience game instructions book inside, almost as if it were never even opened. In general, Patience decks were about ¾ size and designed or at least intended to be used for solitaire.

Also an advertising deck still sealed / mint normal size, and has a unique Ace of Spades with London and Northeastern Railroad and the name Fourth Bridge. I included a closeup of the inscription on the AoS. Maybe Jace can tell us more? It appears to be more likely a 50's or maybe even early 60's deck, while the Patience decks are likely 30's or thereabouts.

Very nice cards Mike. The first Patience deck has the Goodalls standard Joker which was used by Waddingtons and De la Rue. The Second set in the box looks like Goodalls c.1897-1921
Waddington did a few special Aces this one has the "All british Make" this was removed from their aces in 1960

Thanks, Wahl!

While I think that the concept of the 8-Bits is indeed great, I have a few minor quibbles with the implementation of that concept. For example, there seems to be a lack of consistency regarding the "pixel size" used from card to card. (Compare the KoC's mustache and the QoH's eyes, for instance).

I was over the moon with the Pagans, though, especially since Linnea & Peter were kind enough to sign the Cream-colored one's AoS!

I also received my print of the deck's Diptych, and hope to have it professionally framed soon!

Flea Market Sunday!

Found this beautiful set of Triumph playing cards for $4.50. Don't know much about them, not finding much on Google. But it's pretty easy to pinpoint the date even without checking the ace of spades. Going by the dating table and tax stamp though, the year seems 1943. Any further information is absolutely welcome!

Next a sealed deck of X-Men from the 90s. :)

Hey Eoghann

The Triumph deck was made by USPCC in the 1940s. It's believed to have been made for sale in armed forces facilities - according to the Hochman Encyclopedia. I also have a Congress deck set from that time period with the exact same War Bonds flyer in it.

Your ace has an E code so that would likely be 1943.

Thanks so much!

I always let my imagination run wild with these types of decks. A deck from the actual period of worldwide conflict. The name alone serving as inspiration for the troops or anyone in need of an uplifting word. Aside from the front and back, the top bottom and sides have nothing but a single, bold word: TRIUMPH.

I say we put it to a vote. Should we let SBurke49 into the club?

All in favor, signifify by saying "Aye!"

All opposed, signify by saying "No!"

I'll begin:

Aye!

How say you then?

Aye, I'm good. Let me guess - got it from Gambler's Warehouse or from "playingcardsdotnet" on ebay? I know they ended up with about 1000 of Mike F's original UC decks.

The thing is that the UC2014 ("Grotesque") decks are supposed to ship to the fulfillment center - scheduled for Friday the 20th, anyway. Personally I can't wait to get my hands on our "First Annual Deck" - which I can guarantee you WILL be an annual thing! Lotrek really helped me out on this one, because I was really late to the party, and by the time those decks are actually fulfilled to the backers I'll already be getting ready to ramp up towards the UC2015 Annual Deck.

Just a question: if I can get a good quantity of these decks for a reasonable price, is anyone interested in getting bricks of them for - say - $60? (I'd have to figure out the shipping, but that's about what they would be, I'm pretty certain). I know that they were considerably more to start with, and I'm not trying to undercut the original market, but I'm pretty certain that I can get - let's just say around 500 of them for a good price.

Any interest? (yeah, I know they represent the old management/owner, but - they could also represent the precursor to the "UC Annual Deck" series as well)

Yes sir, I got them from the Ebay handle. Was I not supposed to? I really dig the Bicycle branding and foil and embossing on the tuck case. Thats what sold it for me.

But personally, one deck is all I need. I'm one of "those guys" I guess. One deck to open, get my grimy hands on, and play with. :)

heheheh - oh, no trolling, Daniel! LMAO... You're fine, I was just wondering if anyone even gave a rip about those to judge whether I should get a master case or two. I like them, hard not to: Randy Butterfield designed them, and he's no slouch! They use the "lucid lime" colors we have in our color scheme here online, as well.

Oh, they can still be bought from Lotrek, I'm pretty certain. Just get in touch by PM here or email to LotrekDesigns@hotmail.com and I'm sure he'll hook you up. Now, he's just about ready to dive into the fulfillment phase of the project here in about 3 weeks, so don't put it off too long or he'll be up to his ears in decks already!

I'd go in for half a brick, maybe a full brick. That'd depend on how much I was pledging on KS.

Well, I think I will ransom a few gross from Gambler's Warehouse so we can sell them here in singles, half bricks and bricks. I guess the price would be about $5/ddck for singles, $30 for a half brick and $50 for a brick. I would have to figure out actual shipping cost first, but seems reasonable to me. They ARE nice decks, definitely saleable, and it's a shame to just let them rot away in a warehouse ignored. Maybe get a gross (12 bricks or 144) and see how it goes, and as long as they sell, get another. Half a brick can ship priority for about $6, brick is 1.2kg or about 3#, so I guess $12 would cover a medium flat rate box and same shipping for 2 bricks (I'm sure that I shipped to bricks in that box before). Even then, $42 for 6 is $7 each and $62 for 12 is about $5 each.

Singles are tough, but I could do 2, 4 or 6 for the same price ($6 for 2-3 day priority).

Give me a little while to get my cash flow back up, I just paid off my mortgage yesterday and spent another $3000 on a project that I will be announcing here within a month.

Mail check after a few days at the beach:

Some semi-transformatiom decks, both Bah of Bones and the Mermaid decks, I know that I have seen the Dog and Cat decks (Same designer) here before... One reproduction deck of an 1860 Reynolds and sons (British) deck. Also a half brick of Royal Persian decks came in, 4 purple Owl Eyes (they just aren't scarlet, sorry) and a pair of Bricks drinking decks, and a Russian deck made by BP Grimaud.

While I was away, the 15 decks of Black Rock Collective v3 came in, so those will be packed up tomorrow and hit the post office for Priority mail outbound, likely show up for just about everyone between Monday & Wednesday.

That reminds me, anyone who still wants one needs to get their order in by this weekend. I will take the form down and order however many have been ordered since the original cutoff this weekend.

And last, but no least a pair of Royal Hawaiian decks - one mint/sealed which were made in Australia back in the 50's before it was a state.

Thanks for your work on this Mike. When my credit card stops smoking after Heretic I'll see what I can afford of these. :ugdance:

I know a couple folks have posted these before, but just got my Birch's Beer cards today. Pictures aren't great, but got a hand-written note, and illustration  , along with the three decks I ordered, wrapped and sealed with wax. And the cards (Aces, anyway) are pretty hilarious.

LOL! He must create a special letter for each buyer, obviously: mine came with an "official" letterhead on stationary of the City of New York's "Art Commission" with a hand-written note, and at the very bottom hand-written it said (basically) "the city of New York and it's Art Commissioner has nothing to do with this". I'm paraphrasing - here's my letter:

Yeah, he seems quite a character. It's a pretty funny deck of cards. Hopefully he can source a better printer for his next deck. Do we know anybody that can help budding young deck artists???
