Very nice, but did they explain when/where we can get our hands on it? All I've heard 2nd hand so far is to watch for it at T11. I've been searching for that at least once a week trying to find a way to get one!!!

Hey, let's remember that some of us here are also part of the "old guard"! :D

And I seriously doubt that the "new guard" (the UC folks) are going to "take over" the 52+J convention. I hope that UC will be a strong presence, but it will not (nor should even try to) "take over" what is, after all, a 52+Joker function.

Be careful that you do not start any bad feelings - on either side, Mike. It's not an "us vs. them" thing - let's not make it one.

New from the postman over the last few days...

Shelock Holmes - Got somewhat lucky with number 30 for the hound deck :)
Badass - Nice art and full of badassery. Arrived in impeccable condition despite possibly the worst packaging ever! (A tear open card flatpack with no packing/bubble wrap/newspaper/anything whatsoever)
Zenith double - had to pen oone of em lol
Porcelain, Fraggles and Aurum White Gold courtesy of JP - awesome service as always!

Here's three I picked up yesterday.

My Bro-in-law Tony is visiting with us this week, so we are taking him around to some of the "sights" in and around Salem.

First, we took him to The Heritage Center at the Woolen Mills, where we picked up these two:

==========[ LittleCritters ]==========

Then we went to an Island park in the middle of town, where we saw a waterfall, and picked up:

Carrying on... Another great deck arrived today: the Blue Owl Eyes. Anyone who claims Expert / Legends PCC decks don't handle well need to look at these! They spring out of your hands right out of the box.

Sometimes I do go WAY out of my comfort zone. These next ones are Vietnamese Tan Duc deck, and then I got a pair of Green Label decks from out own phantom1412, pretty sure.

An unusual sealed / mint deck of Altenberg Spielkarten "Piacentine" design.

I forgot one. Let's see if Joe wants these: also a pair of decks from Piatnik with named courts - French style.

Next up, Alaskan "Spawn til You Die" (salmon) deck in tin, and finally the Army 1979 aircraft identification deck, sealed.

Darn Mike! You have the aircraft identification deck. It's on my short list. What did they set you back? If you don't mend telling.

I have that same one, as well as a WW2-era one, and a 1950s one as well.

The one I have which is like Mike's, I got in a way I will always remember:

I have posted often about my collection on a (non-card-related) forum which I have frequented since 2001.

There have been several times over the years where various people on that forum have sent me a deck or three which they felt I might enjoy.

A couple of years ago, I received a package in the mail, the return name and address on which were not familiar to me. I could tell from the feel of the package that it contained at least two decks of playing cards. I assumed it was from one of the eBay sellers. I opened it and inside was a 1970's US Army Vehicle Recognition deck, and a double-deck boxed set of playing cards with a different optical illusion on every card.

Having purchased neither of these on eBay or anywhere else, I dug through the package for some indication of who had sent them, and found a note:

Robert,

Here are the cards I promised you.

I also threw in a double-deck set of visual illusions. Thought you might like those too!

Jeff
(Mr. Skinny)
I almost dropped it all on the floor.

You see, "Mr. Skinny" was the User Name of a guy I had bantered with on that forum for many years.

And, just two or three days before I had received that package, his daughter - also a user on that forum - had posted that Mr. Skinny had died in his sleep, of a heart attack.

Had sending me that package been one of his last acts on this earth? And when had he "promised me" the Vehicle Recognition cards?

I searched that forum and found a post by him in one of my threads about my hobby, in which he asked if I would like the deck. I had said "sure!", and had PM'd him my mailing address.

I contacted the daughter and asked if she knew anything about the decks I had received.

She said that she had found the package, already addressed to me, on his desk while going through his things after he had died, and, knowing he wanted me to have whatever was inside, she dropped it in the mail.

To this day, I can't help but think of those decks as a gift from "beyond the grave".

There is a guy on eBay who sells them : CLICK TO VIEW LISTING

Also available from JP Playing Cards: http://jpplayingcards.co.uk/bicycle-por ... ying-cards

I bought them from the eBay seller before JP had them and can verify that he ships promptly and with good packaging although the shipping costs are high.

Seems like it was on eBay and there were multiple decks. Glad I looked, it was $20 mint, but he doesn't have any more. I see it for $15 opened, search for Aircraft Identification...

While I was doing "feedback" this morning I found it (again). I was looking at the wrong listing: this is the one I bought when I did a search from that $20 listing, I found them for $7.99 "Mint/Sealed" - he still has about 15 of them left at that price and it includes shipping. These are the October 1979 version, not the older WWII (1940's) version, but essentially the same deck, although as I recall the back is different. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131135584396?ss ... 1439.l2649 or CLICK TO VIEW LISTING

Heheheh - I know, it's just when I see something like this I can't help but think about you!

Let's see, I didn't show off one double deck of Carta Mundi (red & blue) #201 bridge/canasta decks called Dutch Castles because that is what appears on the aces. These are Belgian made and have Dutch H/V/B courts. Robert - these are $20 on eBay right now (for BOTH).

Thanks Mike, but I believe that I already have that one, possibly with a different back. I definitely have a deck with those courts, though - possibly acquired during the week I spent in Netherlands on business in 1999, with a two-day side trip to Turnhout, Belgium (home of Carta Mundi).

A unique promotional deck made by SONY tape that includes artwork from British artists of recording artists of the day. Made by Carta Mundi in the early 80s to help promote the Walkman.
