I received a couple decks in the mail today... first, the Dark Templar deck from the Kickstarter. I was surprised that it was a smooth finish even though it's Bicycle, but it's a very nice smooth finish, cards still slide easily. It has a nice diptych in it as well.
Second was a 2deck set of cards called Deadlands Noir. These too have a smooth finish, but they aren't Bicycle and don't glide like the Dark Templars. Still, they look very cool IMO:

The box, which holds both decks (purple back and black back), looks like this:
They were made for a roleplaying game about undead 20's gangsters using the Savage Worlds rules.

Here are the Dark Templar cards. The back design is the upper middle, and you can see the diptych cards at the bottom left.

I know the one you're referring to. I wanted to pledge for one or two but they didn't have a deck-only tier. The tiers that did include it were too high for me as I'm not interested in the game system itself. Good to know they created a cool-looking deck though!

Yes, but they are a little cheaper on ebay ($15-16):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAVAGE-WORLDS-R ... 5662840908" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Savage-Worlds-R ... 1e83a2de3e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Deadlands-Noir- ... 4acdf1e833" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Oh, and I want to remind anyone buying them about what I said earlier, about them not gliding. They have a good card stock, but the finish actually causes them to stick together a bit rather than glide over each other. You will NOT be doing any cardistry with these decks, get them for art only.

Well, some of us (at least ONE of us, anyway) never use a deck for any of this shuffling/fanning/flourishing silliness (a good way to devalue a deck, by the way), but thank you for that caveat nonetheless. And for the eBay links as well.
Speaking of shuffling, etcetera devaluing a deck reminds me of a story:
When I used to attend the annual convention of the 52 Plus Joker collectors' club, there was a woman - the wife of a member - who would bring to each convention some cheap, common deck she would purchase at a drug store on their way to the convention. She would bring that deck with her onto the "trading floor" of the convention, where hundreds and hundreds of valuable vintage & collectible decks were on display and for sale.
She would wait until several collectors were within earshot, and then she would take out her cheap, common deck and shuffle it as noisily as she possibly could, and then laugh at all of the collectors whose heads had whipped around in a panic to see who was "ruining a deck"!
Hard-dee-har-har, lady!

I can't do even a decent fan myself, much less anything fancier. I buy them for the art. But some might look at the very thin borders on the back and the blood spatters and think "hey, they might look cool in X cardistry move", so I felt a warning was only fair. The finish is not as bad as the very worst one I own (hands down, that's the POL deck), but I would put it somewhere in the bottom 5%. If you flex the cards when they come out of the wrapper, you'll hear them separating from each other.
It's interesting, I got a bunch of smooth finish decks all in 1 day: Deadlands Noir, the Dark Templar, and the Lo Scarabeo decks from Italy. The Bicycle Dark Templars were at least as smooth as their usual air cushion finish cards, maybe even smoother. The Lo Scarabeo cards were in the mid ground, clearly less smooth than air cushion but no clumping or stickiness to them at all. And then this deck, which initially sticks together until you flex it, and even afterwards doesn't really glide well. It just shows what a difference the finish can make, and in general it seems matte finishes work better than glossy ones.

Not likely, Robert. We all visit this one!
Today's toys:
Some decks from dazz, some KS stuff and others, not shown an uncut Artist's Edition Actuator & uncut Red Arcane trade from badpete69. (and 1 of the 2 "Blacks Factor" from ebay) The Bohemia is 1 of 250 smooth tucks.

Mike, where did you get the CIA deck? Dope deal, or do they sell them in the lobby

Curious, as if they are semi available, I have friends in the district that owe me a solid.
Second, getting a little irritated. Everyone is showing off their BBoC decks, they're available on eBay now, and I still don't have mine. Damn military postal system.

Ah, thanks.
Now I know what that is, but I still don't have one.
Of course, I never ordered one, nor contributed towards the Kickstarter project...
Can I still be irritated?

I can relate! I usually get my decks late, though, so I have learned to be patient. Lol.

White House Gift Shop, Maddest Hammer. They have a seller account on eBay as well, I've seen them there before along with several other things that really shouldn't be sold to the public, but that's my opinion, everybody's got one...
The thing about the BBoC decks being available on eBay is typical: whoever gets them first always punts them on eBay, it's just an easy buck. Look at the price - $20? hmmm...
Did you get any add-ons, PT? Mine just arrived yesterday and I have to assume it was because I got two art prints. They do show as of yesterday that they have shipped everything but the '1% trouble' orders to backers. I'd ask if I didn't see them by Monday. Scot & Sara are always responsive.

Anything usually takes about 1 1/2 weeks to get here if it's shipped priority. If not, they stick it on a boat out of Jersey, and we pray it doesn't sink :O
I did get a few extras--uncut and 4 prints. Not worried, more of an observation. Waiting still sucks, though

Playing any card game with BBOC is rough. I always though the center pips on the Clubs and Spades would be white too which would've made the cards look better.

My latest arrivals.
Ultimate Zombies and Fire and Brimstone. The F & B are from Hikeeba for a prize in the 2013 awards. They are numbers 41 and 42 out of 500. Now that's limited, and a very generous prize.
This is a vintage deck made by Marshall McLuhan. The name is a reference to the Distant Early Warning Line, also known as the DEW Line. It was a system of radar stations in the far northern Arctic region of Canada, with additional stations along the North Coast and Aleutian Islands of Alaska, in addition to the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland. It was set up to detect incoming Soviet bombers during the Cold War, and provide early warning of any sea-and-land invasion.
The DEW Line was operational from 1957 to the late 1980s. These cards were made in 1969. McLuhan considered certain cultural references to be a kind of DEW line for changes in society, and he loved puns and word play.

Am I the only person around here who only buys ONE of each deck in their collection?
In going through the boxes "in the vault" yesterday, I was surprised to see that I had SIX copies of the "Politicards 2000" deck (three red, three blue). I don't recall WHY, but it was not so that I could "open one and leave the others sealed", as I had no intention of selling decks at any point... I think I must have found a store selling them for $1 each or something.

No, you aren't. I only buy 1 of each and I open them. I have about 3 decks that I have a 2nd copy of, and those I left sealed, but I don't buy duplicates on purpose.

These came in today
Interestingly the plastic cards from the creative arts deck actually fan (not the best, but not in chunks) and actually faro (not the best, hardly smooth but still does it reasonably). My first plastic deck that's like that. But the box is too small for the deck, really gotta squeeze it inside.
Edit: it actually faros pretty welll now that i have played w it longer than expected
