Well, this guy's got a bid for $391. That's...quite the ROI for him if the buyer doesn't back out.

Thanks Wilko! To be honest, I only joined this forum to hunt down playing cards for my teenage son who is a magician. I usually purchase him some decks here and there from E11 and Ellusionist. Now that the holidays are upon us, I looked at the list of playing cards I wrote down that he's mentioned wanting over the past year where I said "no way am I paying that much for cards and uh they don't make them anymore so no can do". That's how I got here and I just took advantage of a ideal opportunity to get him something rare and went overboard on the rest for myself. :) See PM for the rest of this story!

How many did you order?! :D :D
No comment!   I BOUGHT THEM AHH *Dr. Evil voice*

Wow. Well done Lord Nikon.! Tell me, Did you buy so many to sell on or are you keeping them all to yourself. Just interested as I may be interested in buying a couple from you if your selling. If your planning on keeping & using your stash then fair enough!

Also. What prices do people think these will be getting sold on for? No one, except the odd eBay knob with stupid prices will commit to a price. That's assuming a few re sellers got therr hands on them!

This deck is not worth that much money. I admit I'm pretty loose with my money when it comes to things I want but I'm not stupid with it.

OK, I'm going to test the waters to see what these are actually worth on the secondary market. I posted an eBay auction for one deck starting at $1.00 with NO RESERVE. This should give us a better idea of what (sane) people are willing to pay for this deck. There's no way these should be worth over $100.00, much less almost $400.00 like that other ridiculous auction. I guess I'll find out by Sunday.

@sinjin I can see where you are coming from with this point of view. Considering my shipment didn't arrive yet I'm assuming many of those that ordered these cards don't physically have them. My person belief is it's hard to purchase an item on ebay from a member when you know the item probably didn't arrive in their hands yet. I'm not a fan of putting items up for auction/sale on ebay when it's not in my hands. Which is why I doubt the buy now items will sell yet but I suppose someone may bid on an item such as the one you are testing the waters with. For an item such as this the confidence and real value would be much easier determined if people received the cards and posted actual photographs in their auctions yanno?

As a skeptical person in general I wouldn't bid on or purchase any of these auctions that went up in the past few days. With the supply and demand soon showing it's ugly head in the next few days, it's going to be interesting to see how it sorts itself out. One person sells for $300 and another for $100, how does this affect the resale/collectors value for others looking to sell and purchase these cards? It's difficult to resale with a standard type MRSP in this type of limited card frenzy. Best of luck!

I still don't regret buying these. There's no reason I can come up with why he would charge so much for this deck when the 2 previous WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT COLOR sold for less than half this one. And his shipping prices are a whole nother story... The only David Blaine cards I ever really wanted/liked are the 3 Split Spades Tally-Ho ones. And that Black Lion one looks pretty cool. But if he charges the same amount for that as he did these Red Gators, there's no way I'll be buying.

I hear what you're saying about selling an item when you don't physically have it yet, and I even agree with that sentiment. Having said this, I do have confirmed tracking info with delivery scheduled for this Monday, so I will be able to ship out this deck at auction's end.

The real point of my auction isn't about the sale or making the most money I can for this deck, but rather to show what the market for this deck actually should be instead of the Buy It Now auctions with ridiculous prices. I'm putting this deck out early so members here can see what the Red Gatorback sells for in a true auction without reserve. This way, they'll have a little better guideline to know what to buy or sell these decks for.

I'm tired of these ridiculous auctions where greedy re-sellers speculate on decks with unrealistic prices hoping that some fool that is easily parted with his money will bite on the auction. Like you said, if one BIN auction sells for $300 and another for $100, where does that leave us? Obviously that isn't an accurate indicator of what the true fair market value of this deck should be. I have over 1500 decks in my collection, many worth more than whatever these Red Gatorbacks will ever sell for, so I'm not concerned with what I get from one little auction. I've already offered some of my Red Gatorback decks for $16 to a few members here who missed out, which is what my cost was to get my decks (please don't PM me, these offers were only for a select few members here who have hooked me up in the past). At least setting up an auction with a $1 starting bid without reserve should give us a better idea of the realistic value, and that's the point of my auction.

Sinjin.. Do you have a link to your auction as it does not come up in any searches I do. I kind of laugh a bit when I see your long note as to why you are selling your deck like the noble card collector and savior of the hobby. Please spare me the theatrics..When you sell on eBay don't kid yourself it's because you want to make as much as you can. That's the basic nature of the concept of the online auction. Let's assume a crazy billionaire would come up to you and say that he wants to give you $10000 for the deck. Would you politely declined and tell him $20 is ok...Of course not....

There is no rationale behind this craze sometime.... People pay what they can to get what they want...There is no real market price...These decks will sell crazy until the demand wanes. As soon as I get home I will be listing my only extra red deck to see what I can get myself. This kind of craze happened before with the Fed52... I sold my only extra set for a crazy price and it made my fed 52, fed 52 part 2 and my Sherlock decks.all free..

In any case I hope you get as much as you can goood luck

Damn, I'm so tired of you, how are you still a Mod here? I was merely responding to Lord Nikon's post about my rationale in selling this deck. I'm not fancying myself as some savior of the hobby, those are your words. Trust me, I'm not dependent on the income from the sale of this one deck so support my hobby. Why don't you send me a PM like a proper Mod should do if you have any issues with what I do instead of butting in my conversation thread with Lord Nikon? Go home and put your deck up for sale and good luck with that.

Please don't delete this post and go back to ignoring my posts.

These cards are popping up all over ebay now. I count 5 open auctions, some in the $40's one in the $60's a few buy it now sales also. I'm curious to see how they end.

The reds are rarer and were more expensive than the greens but the greens have a lot of variance in price on eBay.

But as a rough estimate the greens are averaging at least 4x their initial price. That would put the reds around the $60 if there had been 5000 of them. Them being 5 times rares does not making them 5x more expensive since they were already 3x the price of greens.

I'd say anywhere from 75 up would be a nice ROI, but wouldn't be surprised if they were running around the 90s or higher.

Value is one of the most subjective things in the world. But some people collect rare stamps.

Does anyone know how many of the first edition split spades were printed?

@TheDuk I agree with your assessment on these cards from the information available. If that is the range for these cards I may even consider selling a few decks off. Controlling the market share might be fun but people should be able to enjoy these. The cards I wanted to get my hands on seems impossible with out cash right now. BBM/Bicycle printed 5000 decks of the Karnival Dose Redux and they seem extinct. Still hunting but that's how the cookie crumbles.

You guys are in an exciting hobby and I may have to stick around here even after the holidays and birthdays pass. I'm extremely impressed with this community, well done. :geek:

Sinjin's deck is almost at $50... I think it should go close to $100. I put a set on sale yesterday ( 1 black, 1 green and 1 red ) for $130 and it already sold. I still can't believe it

My guess is most of the lure of these decks is his name- David Blaine has some rich fan boys that's for sure.

Those rich fanboys are keeping some people in business I'm sure.

I still prefer the White Lions over anything else he put out.

As always, a deck is worth precisely what you can get someone to pay for it.

I'm sticking with Blue Tally-Ho SS myself. Cincy look & feel...

The Black Lion deck looks promising, but will it be $5 like the green GB or $15 like the red?
