Understood. The premium price isn't all that ridiculous if you realize what's gone into it. 6 brand new decks (no colour changes, no simple DM decks), all with premium paper, embossing, foil, seals, you name it. The time required to design everything from scratch. Nothing has been transferred over from previous designs. Then you factor in the wooden box, the people that hand pack each set of 6 decks into that box. There's a lot of money and time put into this.
ecNate wrote:Mike24 wrote:I know everyone is hoping for just the decks by themselves. We
WILL be selling them individually, not until the new year though. They will also be slightly different, Disparos and Absinthe will have a vertically designed tuck instead of the horizontal one currently.
I've worked extremely hard on these decks for the past 6 months, I can't wait for everyone to get them! Sorry if you're not interested in the box, it's pretty cool though
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
PERFECT! To be clear, I think most of us ARE interested in the box, but just can't justify the premium price for it, which may be fair because it appears to be premium quality. Best set I've seen from you guys and I love the custom details on the courts and everything, box too. I will be picking up a few when they are made available individually later. Hopefully you'll also have a deal for buying all 6 together without the box?

Thanks for all the info, Mike. Really appreciate you taking the time to come here and comment!
I don't see it as a bad deal, $165 for a brick of gorgeous cards and a nice wooden display box is pretty decent overall, and I understand why you're doing it this way. It just won't be in everyone's budget, and that's ok. I will be looking forward to the standalone decks whenever they become available.
One question though: Is there any consistency or reasoning to which decks have vertical tuck designs? Just curious to why you're making the change of those 2 particular decks.

While we're at it, I predict that the site will have problems on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (or whenever the sales are). People will not be able to complete their orders, and they will have to "extend" the sale a day or two, etc. In other words, same thing as every previous year. (Does that prediction count as "magic"?)
So I wasn't 100% spot on, but I think I captured the spirit.
I spent over $3000 at ellusionist last year. This year: projected $0. Thank you for making it so easy to decide.

Back to topic, the
$125 + $40 is a clever sales tactic. It feels like you are getting a huge bargain but to be honest you are
still paying $12 a deck
(when you subtract the Box Value for $25).
Thats about
double the price you pay for a brick of a Ellusionist deck.
For collectors of the Bicycle branded decks its a pity...they have to buy 6 or 12 decks instead of just the one they are looking for.
The tuck cases are all very beautiful designed! The cards however...i really love the faces of the 52 Proof,Absinthe and White Wolf Vodka.
The Rum back design is eye catching but the faces..i dislike...could have been more same for the moonshine faces.
Despite all those sales tactics and those extra goodies you are getting once you gave E your wallet,
those cards will costs us INT customers even more.
Subtotal $250.00
Discount -$85.00
Shipping & Handling (United Parcel Service - UPS Worldwide Saver) $62.85
Grand Total $227.85
Now on top of that i have to pay 19% import taxes makes it $246.85 plus 7% customs taxes
(only goods with value above $180)
New Grand Total of : $264,13
Sorry but nope
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
Ship with USPS instead of UPS and you will likely not pay, at least I don't normally pay anything with USPS shipping to Canada but with UPS, look out double the shipping cost!
Also it might be double the normal price of their decks but their normal decks are very plain and standard, these are completely custom and full of awesome and are worth it. If people are willing to pay $20 for a Scarlett Tally Ho then there should be no complaining about this.
Also 500 stocks? Last I checked USPC only uses like 2 stocks and 2 finishes.

I was exaggerating- it was really 50:
I tested over 50 different stocks and finishes to find and create my perfect deck of playing cards.

The decision to change orientation was from Brad. He said when these decks are hanging on a shelf in a store or in a display unit, they're always vertical. So if we have landscape orientation customers won't be able to clearly see the tuck.
I get it, makes sense. It's too bad though because the landscape orientation looks great on those decks.

The shipping service doesnt matter in my case. E´ declares the real amount of the value. Doesnt matter if the UPS or USPS takes it through the customs office - i have to pay the taxes - no mercy from the customs

By real amount do you mean order cost only or including shipping?? Haven't ordered from them for like half a year or more I hope they are still excluding shipping cost. It will be good for everybody's wallet to know.

This doesnt matter since the value of this box is over the customs free value for goods.
I have to show up at the customs office with a bill from the shop/ebay/etc. plus a copy of my creditcard bill/paypal bill.
They are not idiots you know.
My only chance of gettings packages through the customs without any taxes are
1) personal gifts from private adresses (no company stamp/logo)
2) a value of max. $30.00 declared
Well for bigger orders E´has to put a bill in a ziplog bag on the outside of the parcel. There is the total value of the goods incl. shipping declared.
I will wait for my french neighbour to get the sets in. Playingcardz is a very good dealer for us european collectors.

Me thinks me'll wait. Not nuts about two decks being side loaders unlike the rest (consistency nut), don't need the box taking up space I ain't got, and some decks are more appealing than others. I'd like the choice of ordering based on enthusiasm.
That said, beautiful work by E, eclipses anything they've done to date IMO.

I'd rather take that coin and buy the decks I like, perhaps a complete set and then add on some faves. Some really fire me up, others not near as much.

I would have loved it more if all of them were horizontal or had side load tucks. That way it looks more like it's replicating the alcohol bottle labels.

I disagree. I maintain that the discombobulated look of this set adds to the old, rustic feel of this whole theme. Don't get me wrong- I would want this whether all the cards were standardized or not. I just see where E was coming from the way they "threw" this together. And the fact that they're coming out with a v2 that will be standardized should make everyone happy.

I don't know. I don't see it. It doesn't have to be discombobulated to feel old and rustic. I mean they're great the way they are but making them all vertical rather than horizontal would make it less attractive (but still good) to my eyes. The Prohibition boxed set would look even greater if all the decks were horizontally oriented.
