Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
Honestly, it's not the foil/processes I'm impressed with, it's the application of the theme to the artwork. Just a very well done design. Courts, font, etc.

The deck looks FANTASTIC. ....All except for the font of the indexes. That Ace is VERY hard to make out.

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
From Lotrek's Email:
Another Industry first by Lotrek and OathPlayingCards!
"Arabesque" is the second deck in the "Heritage series" which started with ICONS and is the first deck ever to feature:
- Extremely intricate Gold & Silver foil on both sides of each card, hot stamped over the printed artwork. This makes registration particularily difficult and it has never been attempted before.
- CMYK + metallic gold inks on both sides of the cards.
- Gold & Silver foil plus Embossing & Debossing for the tuck case, creating a unicue depth variation with an amazing effect in the light.
- Smooth handling despite the quantity of foil, making the deck perfectly playable.
"Arabesque" is a limited edition of 333 decks, each one numbered and signed by the artist.
The initial plan was for 1 foil (gold) on the faces but imprerssed by the massive response to this first mystery deck we decided to add the silver foil, too. Thus the artwork had to change a bit and the production took longer. The decks will be ready to ship on March 15 by registered mail.
The renderings you see are just pale reflections of the actual cards and you will be amazed when you'll hold them. This is the last surprise we have for you: the real reveal of the deck will be in your hands!

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
I am certainly pleased with the reveal. I imagine the registration necessary had to have been a challenge. I am glad he decided to go with two foil colors on front and back. It looks like the courts will really shine with that foil. His design is, as usual, stunning.
I am expecting the tuck will look much different with embossing. My only criticism is that the faces look rather plain. I was thinking the would look more like icons. But, that might ruin the style Lotrek was going for.

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
Looks very nice, I can't wait to open, shuffle and play with this deck.
Well it looks great enough to get another one. I'll keep the limit to 3 decks instead of 4 so I'll have room for the future decks.

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
Aww man! I knew these would look great, but I just can't. This week is the last week of the year I "go to work for free" [working to pay off business registration, licence fees, insurance &c] so I will have to get luck and hope somewhere down the line I can pay full price [wait, UC members get a discount don't we?] but I just can't afford $130 on a single deck [after exchange].
BTW, Lotrek, buddy, you pay your fans' dentist bills, for broken jaws and such, right?? What's your forwarding address?

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
Now the main question is when will these ship and if we got more, I guess they'll ship separately?

They're scheduled to ship on the 15th. Until then, any new orders will be shiped together. However there are only 29 decks left right now...Bikefanatic wrote:Now the main question is when will these ship and if we got more, I guess they'll ship separately?

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
I think the "Oath mystery deck" will become a tradition but next year the reveal will be at your door, not earlier!
I was pretty amazed by this show of faith, even from people who haven't bought another deck from me in the past. I really hope that when you get the decks, you'll be all happy with your decision to buy it sight unseen. The vast majority of decks were sold during the first 2-3 days when the only things you knew was that the deck is designed by me and it's expensive.

I always want to see the King of Hearts because I want "the sword to go through his head". I wonder if you'll do more cultural type decks in the future.

For those of us who can't afford this, is there any hope of a collector's edition like you did for Ambassadors? Love the design but just can't swing the price.

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
The difference in creators is huge. Lotrek produces what he feels is his best work. We respond in a huge way blindly. Lotrek responds by redesigning the deck from one foil color to two, without a word to us until the full reveal. Lotrek is not afraid to over-deliver.
If you want one of these decks, as of right now there are 16 left. They will all be gone soon.
Wingedpotato, do you mean a Players version?, like in the Ambassadors? If so, I like that idea as long as there is no Signature Deck. At this price, this version should be at the top of the pyramid.

Re: OATH playing cards MYSTERY deck
Absolutely. Various cultures have been a huge source of inspiration and the translation to my own style is the big challenge. Arabesque is part of the "Heritage Series" which will be based on some of the most important moments in world art history.Bikefanatic wrote:I always want to see the King of Hearts because I want "the sword to go through his head".
