If you can answer "yes" to both of those questions regarding your thrift store haul, (Was it worth that much to you, and could you afford it), then I would say that the planets did indeed align for you today, and congrats.

Certainly! What I meant was that I usually come back empty handed from the thrift store. This one time I got really lucky with so much loot at an amazing price.

On a side note, my nephews visited me today and they wanted s'mores. So while checking out the ingredients at the Dollar Tree, I noticed brick boxes with a variety of decks from different Nevada Casinos (Tropicana, Palm) like Aristocrats, Paulsons, etc. They're technically open but have a seal that reads "this decks of cards was used in actual play in this fabulous casino."

A few of the decks have signatures on them.

Just a little heads up for anyone interested. :)

Remember though that many casinos drill a hole through or cut a corner off the deck when they take it out of play, so that if someone buys it in the casino souvenir store (or elsewhere), they cannot easily sneak it (or any of its cards) back into play.

Other casinos take a less destructive approach, and just draw lines down the sides of the deck with a marker.

Here are some cards from casino decks in my collection, most of which show the "cancellation"

You know, I've been to a couple casinos but it never crossed my mind to question what happened to them after they were done.

Upon closer inspection I have noticed the top right corner slightly trimmed off every card. Wow. You learn a new thing everyday. Thanks!

Sometimes they cut TWO of the corners off (witness the New York, New York card back in my post above).

I shudder to think of someone taking a drill press or a band saw to a perfectly good deck of cards, but that must be what happens! (I picture them playing the Psycho music while they do this).

Haha, thanks both!

That's a very cool variety deck! Quite rare judging by eBay's prices. Congrats MCJ.

Thanks! - they really do look good :)

You can still pick them up from D&D for $25.

Ended up buying from JP Playing Cards for around £27 with shipping. (About $42)

Probably comparable with D&D if you factor in shipping to the UK and their mandatory handling and insurance. Even if it is a little more I like to support the local business :)

As I posted earlier today in the main thread about the Stranger & Stranger deck, I think that the faces of at least some of the cards in the deck were copied from other transformation decks. For example, the Octopus/Squid card is (at least) very similar to one in the deck The Key to the Kingdom.

I could be wrong about this (I hope I'm wrong about this), as I think that it would tarnish what looks to be a lovely deck.

I just realised I HAD key to the kingdom when it came out originally (or my dad did). I actually tried to solve it - and failed. It was basically a huge treasure hunt - clues in the book and deck would point to a location in Britain where a prize was stashed.

May have to root around mum's attic and re-appropriate it.

The Misc. Goods trio, did you get them from the website? I was considering them but I remember hearing rumors that shipping wasn't being fulfilled.

Great to know! I just had my doubts because the Kickstarter comments said otherwise. People still wondering where their stuff was mid June 2013 despite estimated ship date being December 2012.

Thanks!

Don't remember exactly when, but I got my KS decks a long time ago. So any who didn't get theirs was probably either unlucky or might have had a shipping address problem.

Found these earlier today. The Burton deck is faced backwards, which you can see the seal still attached to tuck flap. The Dreamcatcher deck is the same color scheme as the Sideshow Freaks deck but the pips are a tad bit darker. I read the creator will come out with another culture related deck.

Very nice!

The picture of the mailer reminds me of my one (very minor) gripe about purchasing & receiving decks from bmpokerworld: getting to the decks inside is so damned difficult (for me, anyway. I have only the use of one hand, so the process of:

1. Opening the USPS mailer (I have to hold it between my thighs and cut one end of it open with a pair of scissors).

2. taking the manilla envelope out of the mailer (I have to hold the mailer in my teeth and pull on the envelope to do this).

3. taking the bubblewrap "envelope" out of the manila envelope (quite difficult one-handed, as the bubblewrap "envelope" tends to not slide out easily)

4. opening the bubblewrap "envelope" (holding it between my thighs while I cut one end of it open using a pair of scissors)

5. taking the decks out of the bubblewrap "envelope" (difficult for reasons I can't describe)

...is daunting for me.)

WHEW!!

Then of course starts the challenge of opening each individual tuck box, but that would be the case regardless of where I bought them.

CBJ, I am not sure HOW I would deal with the huge mailer in your photo, but it is a challenge/problem I would absolutely LOVE to have! :D

I hasten to add (in case Mike reads this) that I am NOT suggesting that my decks get packed or shipped any differently in future. They arrive safe and sound, and that's the important thing.

The Fantastique deck seems to be signed by Dan and Dave - though the deck wasn't sold as such (paid all of $9.50 including shipping from Singapore).
So I have no real provenance beyond visual comparisons:http://shop.dananddave.com/autographed- ... -dave.html
