Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
If the switch to EPCC means having a better tuck, then I'm OK with it because you have to work within the parameters of what the market will allow, right? I think you should give it a little more time to see if there's any bump in pledges as a result of the switch. I'd like to see some more cross-promotions with other popular KS projects to increase visibility for this deck. Maybe more interviews with card collecting blogs.
Personally, I think the back design is conducive to a full bleed back. I think the only group of people that would have any kind of strong feeling at all against full bleed backs would be some magicians, but my suspicion is that the great majority of the backers for this project are primarily collectors, so the upgrade in the tuck should be a big positive that outweighs any disdain for full bleed backs.

I love the faces and the tuck, but the back seems a little to simply compared to the faces.

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
hey, everybody, we've pretty much flatlined in our campaign and it doesn't look like the support is there. based on feedback, though most backers like the full bleed deck back, the fact that we are at such a low funding level this deep into the campaign means we're only getting people that love that kind of back, and the people that aren't into it are simply staying away. we're thinking of a relaunch with a more traditional deck back, one that has art nouveau and art deco influences, much like the courts that everyone seems to love.
also, we weren't aware until after the fact that postage rates have gone up significantly in the new year. it might be for the best that the full bleed back campaign won't get funded since we underestimated shipping expenses and upon relaunching, we'll probably have to go with $8k and $16k as goals for two decks.
we'll probably still call it primo since we're keeping the courts and relaunch with the same courts and a redesigned back and tuck. we'd love your thoughts.

I like the blue. I hope that's the one you go with and have the red be the stretch goal.

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
Like the new backs. I really hope you find a way to do both decks without using a stretch goal. I pledged for 2 decks with Primo because I didn't want to end up with 4 of the same. If you start with 2 colors, I think you'll see many pledges at the 4-deck tier with split colors.

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
Well I'm bummed the original campaign flatlined because I loved those backs!
But... Also love these so hey whatever works .
I am not questioning your math and you guys are super transparent about that which is awesome.
But... it seems like a lot of the single decks have a smaller goals and/or struggle getting funded
while ones that people back like crazy have 2-3 decks which allows more excitement / variety / buzz.
Collectors seem to go crazy over anything limited.
They also seem compelled to buy at least one (or two or so) of every kind of deck you offer in
a campaign. But if there's only one *thing* to buy...
So a second more decadent deck or even just different but limited to like 100, 500 or 1,000 would get people talking and buying
Or other special swag like uncut sheets, signed prints of your court cards, special cases, coins, etc.
I don't personally buy many of those things but campaigns with lots of options for tiers to get things popping
and then items they desire at reachable stretch goals people... seem to go bonkers over.
Omnia, Magna Carta, Diamonds and Seven Seas come to mind.
Looking forward to supporting - Edgy for Life.

Like JazzVox above, I love the current backs, and I love the new backs.
Have you guys had any luck getting other projects to cross promote with you?
Love your work, guys. Looking forward to having more of your decks in my collection soon.

Well it was announced in an update that the Primo name has to be changed due to copyrights. Hopefully the relaunch has no problems.

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
I think "Rousselle" has a nice, regal sound to it. Definitely evokes the idea of quality.
In all seriousness, though: the name "Primo" really did work well for this deck. I'm going to have to spend some time on coming up with some good suggestions. Y'all should, too. We need to come up with a name that will help seal the deal and get these decks made.

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
thanks for the suggestions, everybody! we understand the value that add ons and other limited edition items can add to a campaign in terms of funding total, but we try to avoid those because of the added expense and time spent in fulfillment. we've done a blog post about this in the past - it's easy to pad the total of a campaign by throwing a bunch of add ons into the mix - we did it on both dia de los muertos campaigns - but once the dust settles, you've got to pay for and ship those extra items, and while there's usually a profit, it involves a lot of extra time and energy. to us, the real goal is to finish a campaign knowing that we got funded and that everything is paid for with, hopefully, some room to spare, so that we can realize more profit in the aftermarket. more add ons equals more product, but also more to deal with later. we've learned after several campaigns that we'd just prefer to deal with decks - it's clean and simple, and allows the most possible time to do what we enjoy most: create.
also, adding extra decks to get backers excited is also a very effective strategy, but again, brings its own issues. the more decks you have, the higher you have to raise your funding goal, and it kind of becomes a push. we've found stretch goals to be more effective, which is what we'll be using for this campaign.

Well at least you've thought it through. I just don't see too many single decks with a high (though realistic and for a quality product) being funded. Hopefully you're correct and the only holdup was design. Looking forward to supporting!

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
Okay, tomorrow we launch Edgy Brothers Select Playing Cards! The new name, as you may or may not know, is a response to a polite request to change it by Primo Toys, which has trademarked it in toys and games. So, we are glad to make this campaign pretty much a new launch instead of a relaunch, since so much else has changed. have a look:
We are still going with LPCC to print the decks, and have managed to keep the funding goals at $7,500 for the Blue Deck and $15,000 as a stretch goal for the Red Deck. We had to raise pledge tiers and shipping prices slightly to reflect the higher rates the USPS instituted this year. The folks at Primo are pretty understanding, btw, and have promised to back the campaign once we're up. So, check us out on Kickstarter tomorrow at Noon EST/9 AM PST!

Re: Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers
Lol. I'm sorry but when I read the update before I seen the pics, I was thinking "will Select replace Primo on the tuck"?
Just that name and look is odd. I know ya'll were taking suggestions but this? While being busy, I would've suggested Ice Flower for the blue tuck because of the back. The backs center look like a flower. The decks are great, it's just the new name. I'M still pledging.

Re: Select aka Primo playing cards from Edgy Brothers live o
Couldn't agree more. For whatever reason it seems like Edgy Bros. don't get the attention that I feel they deserve. They have produced several great decks and have been very reliable in fulfillment, but for some reason they don't quite get the support that others do. I've seen too many of their decks fail to be produced while watching so many other decks that have no business being anything other than a novelty deck, with a production of a couple hundred, get produced by USPCC/LPCC/EPCC. I know my tastes don't always match what others around here like, but sometimes I'm just baffled by what some people will back while ignoring this and other Edgy Bros. decks.vasta41 wrote:I want this to fund. Do you have any other deck creators who will be throwing some love toward this project? It would be really cool to see it catch some momentum.
