Re: Green Monarchs by Theory11 coming soon
@ejay07, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against people who sell extra decks for a profit, that is part of any collecting hobby. I'm just trying to point out that I don't think profit should be the primary basis for whether one purschases decks because playing cards would be a poor investment vehicle. Like Eoghann said in his post, you never know which deck will be a knock out and this mentality is what enables companies like T11 to do what they do.
I'll tell you what, if you pass for now on picking up a green Monarch and these "sell out" quickly, don't worry. Instead of getting gouged in the secondary market, look me up here at UC when you're ready to pick up a deck and I'll sell you one at cost, which was $7.95 for Elite members.

And that cannot be fairer.
As for lil ol' me ....
I buy what I like, and as much of it as I can at the time ....
Lately that ain't much.
Given my rightfull place* in society,** I'd probably get too much. Not that I'm greedy, just that my judgement isn't as good as you think it is.
Plenty of good decks, some exceptionally good ones, some phenomenal rarities ....
Huge range of nice.
Those hideous Aliens.
With one exception, no two,*** the only aftermarket decks I buy are the older/vintage classics.
Anyhoo back t'you
*BAaaaWaaaahahahahaaaa !
**see above
***Ss*shh *******s and some Flesh and Bloods I found (still sealed, should I open ?)
(Edit)
T11 must be rapt at this exposure for these little monarchs eh ?

Re: Green Monarchs by Theory11 coming soon
I agree here. No way am I looking to resell on Ebay. It's also why I am turned off by alot of decks I really like. It's giong to take some serious convincing to drop $40 on a single deck of cards. So far, I've only done it once but that's a special case. I'm looking to use my cards, not have them sit wrapped in packages looking nice.sinjin7 wrote:You should buy decks based upon whether you like the deck, NOT based on whether its really "limited" or not so you can sell them for more money in the future (there are so many better investments to speculate your money with).
These pieces are art need to be seen and enjoyed. And after getting a little at the Green Monarchs, I maybe in for a couple.

While we're on the topic on Monarchs, anyone know the difference between these two decks?

I believe that Monarchs have a Blue tuck and the Gold Monarchs have a Black tuck
A deck a day helps keep the addiction at bay!

Discussion of this can be found with a little searching, however, here is the link to the topic: http://www.unitedcardists.com/viewtopic ... ld+monarch4.of.Clubs wrote:While we're on the topic on Monarchs, anyone know the difference between these two decks?

Thanks so much! That helped clear things up for me. Was mainly trying to figure out how to tell the difference without opening the deck.

Re: Green Monarchs by Theory11
Just received my Green Monarchs yesterday.
Regarding the tuck: the color is exquisite. Interestingly, they decided to print the inside of the tuck a solid black. While this creates a not-unpleasant visual effect (it works exceedingly well on the original Black Monarchs deck that I have), it diminishes the effect of the *feel* of the paper. When you open the red tuck box, the feel of the inside flap is surprisingly awesome. By imposing a solid wall of black paint inside the green tuck, the paper feels smoother and less luxurious.
Unlike with my previous Monarchs, this time around I decided to try to remove the seal. The adhesive does a better job of sticking to the box than to the metallic seal, and Goo Gone is not 100% effective at removing the stickiness and restoring the pure tactile sensation that the rest of the box (outside) has, but it *does* remove the metallic gold printing. So, yeah. Wish I hadn't done that.
The deck itself: As with the reds, the nice, thin borders do reveal that the cut is shifted ever so slightly along the up-down axis. It's not enough to be off-putting (for me), but it is noticeable if you look for it. The faces, on the other hand... I've always gotten the impression that the faces were supposed to have metallic gold inks on the courts, AoS, and jokers, but that the mix of the inks wasn't quite right. (I used to run a print shop, and printing with metallic gold was always problematic on our silk screen press; I assume the same for USPCC's offset presses.) Well, this time... there is no doubt that those cards have metallic gold ink on them, and the effect is quite pleasing to the eye. On that score, this deck has an edge over its Monarchial counterparts.
However, the deck does not include a double-backer, and instead, has two ad cards. The second ad card in no way enhances anything about the deck, and I have no idea why they chose to go that route. It's almost identical to the first ad card, simply swapping out a different version of the T11 logo. Bah. So, on that score, each of the other Monarch decks I've opened (all of which had double-backers) has an edge over the greens.
So, those are my very narrow, technical observations about this deck. While I'm glad T11 is still experimenting with the tucks, I think printing the inside of this particular tuck somewhat diminished the overall experience a little bit. But, I like the color (tuck and card backs), love the effective gold metallic inks, and I'm happy with this purchase.

Re: Green Monarchs by Theory11
That was a nice mini-review by rousselle. I also love the dark green color of the tuck box, a very nice contrast with all the gold foiling. I wish the actual cards had the same dark green of the tuck, but they're a bit lighter. The rubbery suede feel of the tuck is exquisite, but the solid black of the inside of the tuck isn't just printed black ink, but rather another layer of black colored paper to make the tuck box stiffer. While the red Monarch had the rubbery suede feel outside and inside, I think I prefer the added layer of black paper on the inside of the green Monarchs which improves the rigidity of the tuck, even if it's at the expense of eliminating the lux tactile feel in the inside of the tuck.
My deck was cut so that the thin borders on the back were centered well. I am never really impressed by metallic inks used on court cards to start with because I don't feel they're really all that metallic. So in my eyes, I didn't even notice that there may have been more metallic gold on the green Monarch over the other versions.
I am shocked that T11 didn't include some kind of useful gaff card like a double-backer or a blank card. Aren't they supposed to be a magic company? The second ad card is utterly useless and redundant.

Re: Green Monarchs by Theory11
I just picked up a deck at my local Barnes and Noble (Northern California) for $7.95. I don't think you have to worry about them selling out or becoming super rare anytime soon.

Huh. Well that's certainly different. Maybe I'll check out the B&N near my house.
