Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
A couple of new decks, pairs of Chris O's Shadow Edition Oracle decks, and #5/50 of Eli Retschlag's Cerulean Pearl with hand made tuck.
70-something carat cases headed out for US, Luxembourg & Australia tomorrow.

That is one of my white whales. Love the AoD. It tells a story... This is his dark deck.Mike Ratledge wrote:Persistence pays (costs?). I finally found one OG Vladislav Erko deck Pekelna Harugv (oversized) for $60: (2nd deck, I mistakenly type Taras Bulba at first)It completes my set of all three versions, and I have one spare of the "tavern" edition (ornate red with gold metallic ink on tuck). They usually go for $60-$70, but I paid $35 each for the pair (of course I had it an hour ago and went to take a picture only to remember I moved it to downstairs). I think I have shown them before...

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Can anyone identify this deck I just got? All I know is it's got that helmet on the back design and it's bridge sized USPC. Doesn't say anything at all anywhere on the tuck case nor anything on the ace, it's just a standard Aviator/Nugget ace of spades and standard everything else. Some kind of advertising deck i'm guessing, but I don't know for that.

Perhaps but I would think they would brand it and trademark it. I see one of these on eBay except it has an actual vintage Arrco back

Top row (L-R) Spectrum Edge by Cosmo Solano (autographed for free!), Star Casino Bee Kung Hei Fat Choy
Bottom row (L-R) Three Bicycle decks from the local Barnes and Noble: Chinese Opera, Porcelain, and Nautic Back
Our B&N started carrying Theory 11 decks a couple of months back. It looks like they are expanding their Bicycle line. Those $7.95 decks are so much more attractive when you don't have to pay an extra $5 or so in shipping.

Thanks for sharing and the heads up. There is a Barnes & Noble a block away from my job. The Nautic back is no surprise but I've never seen the Chinese Opera decks before and The Porcelain deck was exclusive to Chine/Asia. Excellent finds.flashcards wrote:

The first was a couple months before I joined UC. I've no excuse for the second. Ahhh, the perils of working so much. I did stop by Barnes & Noble yesterday. I grabbed two each of the Chinese Opera and Porcelain decks. I'm not sure but I think the AoS and ad cards are different than the Version from China. I'll have to check my other deck.
A small annoyance with the decks at B&N is that they have big price stickers on the back. They also had a T11 display with several decks. The display looked like the wood display they were selling on their site. I tried to buy it without luck.

The price stickers have the magnetic sensor in it to set off the alarm so they're a pain to get off without breaking the cellophane.nECr0MaNCeD wrote:A small annoyance with the decks at B&N is that they have big price stickers on the back.
Nice haul by the way. Might have to swing by B&N one day while I'm in Jackson.
Feeding the addiction one deck at a time.

Well hello everyone! It's been a hell of a long time since I've posted to this board... and I just got these in the mail...
Anyways, I bit of an update... I've stopped collecting card decks about a year ago after making some tough decisions in life and setting new goals.
I have roughly 775+ decks that I'm looking to get rid of - I estimated I've probably spent $5k+ on the collection - I don't want to sell them off in packages - so I'm looking for ideas on how to get rid of them... any suggestions?

Good to see you posting, MJF!
I hope that your new priorities bring you as much (or more!) joy as your collection of playing card decks has.
Best of luck in this new chapter of your life.
As for suggestions as to what to do with your collection, all I can come up with is a lame suggestion that they would most likely get along famously with the decks in My collection!
Well, it was worth a shot, anyway...

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
This, undoubtedly, isn't the best place for it, but it's a problem I've been considering too (not that I'm stopping collecting... yet).MJF wrote:I have roughly 775+ decks that I'm looking to get rid of - I estimated I've probably spent $5k+ on the collection - I don't want to sell them off in packages - so I'm looking for ideas on how to get rid of them... any suggestions?
As far as I can tell nobody I know (in person) is even slightly interested in the decks (most think I'm mad for paying more than $10 for a deck...). Sure there are some which would collect some money if sold online to other collectors, but there's an uncomfortably large percentage which really would be difficult to unload without serious effort.
Obviously one would hate for them to be thrown out, but other than being slowly mangled by one excrutiating shuffle at a time by my Mum playing solitaire, what is the real alternative?
Anyway... after that slightly sobering thought, back to the madness....

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Welcome back, buddy! Sorry to hear you're getting out of playing cards. I'm afraid there's no quick way to unload that volume of decks while getting any kind of value to them. Even though you don't want to do it, your best bet is to unload them in packages on eBay. It'll take a lot of effort and take a long time, but it beats a fire sale where you take a big loss.MJF wrote:Well hello everyone! Nothing but otherworldly surprises were waiting in the mailbox today!
I'd like to highlight the really awesome (and sturdy) coffin display box a good friend hand made for me as a gift. An amazing, unexpected surprise!

A few additions over the past week or so. With the arrival of the Cthulu decks I can now say I've only been burned once, and that was for the Alice in Wonderland deck. While the zippo deck doesn't have the lighter, I'm still quite stoked as I got it for less than $10 shipped and I now have a deck I can open and keep my original set nice and minty fresh. *and there was much rejoicing.* So Party on and be excellent to each other.

Is that one on the bottom left one of the Cthulu decks? Looks pretty sweet. I tend to bypass that genre, but may have to look again.

The 3 of Hearts card? Yes, it's an individual card signed by Shane Tyree from the Call of Cthulu Writhing Dark deck. Haven't really had a chance to open any of them. Looking forward to checking out the Branle deck the most really.ecNate wrote:Is that one on the bottom left one of the Cthulu decks? Looks pretty sweet.
