Re: Magna Carta - Alex Chin
Princess is correct. It is a gilded deck with a completely separate foiled and embossed box limited to 500 printed with USPCC.
Just so no one is caught off guard, shipping for US is still free for all tiers except for bricks and half bricks which are $5. The heavier shipments really got me last time and this way it does help ease the load on shipping supplies and the shipping service itself.

A lot better then Jackson's corporate greed..... Amazing how Alex can offer free shipping to the US when Jackson continues to elaborate on how much everything costs especially shipping....
Jackson, you might want to take note... Not all great creators are looking for pure profit...

Re: Magna Carta - Alex Chin
I certainly appreciate the kind words. But to be perfectly honest Jackson and every other Kickstarter creator who has ever shipped anything out is correct. Shipping is insanely expensive.double_left wrote: Amazing how Alex can offer free shipping to the US when Jackson continues to elaborate on how much everything costs especially shipping....
It took a lot of thought to keep shipping free for the lower tiers and those loss in fees are something I was able to accept mostly because I didn't have any odd shaped objects this time around. I am sure as shipping and production prices change the rates for campaigns will as well. Personally I ship my items instead of using a fulfillment house which can sometimes be slightly cheaper but I know that fulfillment houses are also a perfect solution for some and way easier.
I think that being in the US has sort of spoiled us for shipping. I loved the Kings of India deck and was caught off guard when I had to pay shipping since it was CA. But the reality of the matter is that international customers pay for shipping all the time. Some people will raise tier prices to keep the net value the same but offer free shipping to the US. But that ends up raising the pricing for our international friends.
Overall what I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of factors that come into play here and it's really hard to do side by side comparisons and take the best out of each campaign and wish it on the next one you're interested in. Take each campaign singularly and really think about everything as a whole from production, to the designs, to their specific methods of fulfillment. If you think it's fair, certainly support it. If not, there is always a new deck around the corner to spark our collectors' eyes
Anyhow, 20 minutes until lauch!

While double_lift is entitled to his opinions like everyone else, Jackson made a very appropriate and proper response to double's minor hijack of this thread.JacksonRobinson wrote:Please do not litter Alex's thread with your grievances towards me. I'm glad that there will be embossing to fill in some of the negative space, hopefully it will be detailed and crisp enough to be properly noticed. It seems not all embossing is created equally - some decks have very defined embossing, while other decks have muddled and muted embossing that's hard to make out easily. Sometimes the designer's vision for how the embossing turns out differs from the finally executed product. It seems to me the designers who are sticklers and insist on the tuck manufacturer to get it right over and over until they're satisfied are the one who achieve the best results.

I pledged for the gilded King John and added on a Rebels and Roylas. I didn't know there was a seperate tier for all 3 but doing it that way saved me $1 haha

Regarding the visual tier structure, don't be alarmed if it moves on you. It's not a ghost. It's made to display both sides to make it very clear of what you can create with what you want.

Re: Magna Carta - Alex Chin
I don't mean to hijack but I wonder if some of the more seasoned members could pass on some strategy for dealing with major offerings like this one? I set my clock and opened KS to the "Playing Cards Sorted by Newest" page. I kept hitting f5. Launch time came and went and there was no new additions to the page. After a couple of minutes I did a search on Magna Carta and found the launch was already well under way! I was the 74th backer (L2 limited half mural). I know things move fast but ... I think KS is an awkward site to navigate so maybe that is just the way things are. If anyone could give some suggestions on how to do things better next time, it would be much appreciated. Pierre, I'm looking at you here.
Back on track- Congratulations Alex. The deck looks awesome and should fund in no time. Some of the add-ons look pretty tasty as well. It will be exciting to follow this project as it progresses.

Re: Magna Carta - Alex Chin
I had an official event where I posted the link at the exact time it was supposed to launch which was how some people got on so quick. You can also check the artist's account page to see new creations. I think it's harder to load a full main page with more traffic than a personal artist's page.flashcards wrote:I don't mean to hijack but I wonder if some of the more seasoned members could pass on some strategy for dealing with major offerings like this one? @flash: I typically go to the artists' page and refresh their projects list. I've found that anything else either displays new projects late or not at all.

I agree that the KS site is very awkward to navigate and have been burned in the same way as flashcards several times before.
Ideally we'd have a preview link to refresh

Thanks guys. I had done a search for a preview page under "Magna Carta" but didn't find anything. Is there a secret backdoor to the previews? I didn't think to look for Alex's page or use the preview link here. Good info for next time. I'm not a cutthroat collector so it's no big deal. I'm just happy to be a part of this awesome project.

The only way we have preview links are if the creator makes one and gives it to us.flashcards wrote:Thanks guys. I had done a search for a preview page under "Magna Carta" but didn't find anything. now now in all fairness I was in a meeting on a smart phone when Magna went live. My boss was looking at me wondering why I was typing like crazy hehe. Was not first of course but managed to get the early bird pledge I wanted so that's all that matters...

Man I was late to this today, unfortunately wasn't able to get the mural pledge but went with the 3 deck pledge. Debating on if I should do a second account and grab another one so I can setup the full mural. They're available but at the same time I've always been against people using second accounts to get limited decks...
