Hi everyone, this is the creator of 'Kings of India'
Thanks @jerichoholic for posting this up here. Very good start to the campaign, almost 70% in a week!
Just wanted to mention that we approached Kings of India as a historical project, illustration project and to also be fully functional as a custom deck of cards. I have personally read through many of the design thread comments from others decks to figure out what makes for a strong deck. Our theme and illustration style might not suit everybody's taste, but as far as a deck of cards goes, we've kept the suit indicators large, indices and numbers highly legible & stayed true to the orientation and faces of standard British courts.
Few things that seem to be an issue:
One-way backs: We were working on a design for a 'true' reversible back that may replace our proposed concept. In the works - will post on UC to get feedback.
Court indices too safe: Agreed. The K, Q, & J can definitely move out a bit, at least to align with the court borders.
Back borders: The white border on the back could probably be smaller. USPCC doesn't do an amazing job with their alignment for smaller run projects so I'd like to be safe and only reduce the border slightly for aesthetics.
Shipping: We are a Canadian project, which means we run our KS campaign in Canadian dollars (currently the exchange rate is not in our favor). So when you see $19
CAD for a deck of cards with shipping to the US, this really means
under $15
USD including shipping for this deck once you convert it. We could have just said 'Shipping included to the US' but then the price would go up for backers in Canada too. So I'd say for a deck with a foil tuck and printed inners, this price is quite fair. We are shipping from the USA and always planned to. For Canadian and international backers, we apologize for the shipping costs for a single deck, but we need to cover the true cost for us to get these decks out. If we see a good fulfillment option, we will consider using it.
Will post updates soon - thanks again for all the feedback.
