Maybe he should focus on one at a time and on completing projects.

Well it's not like he can make the printers work any faster, and he is one of the best on fulfillment of projects as well as quick completion / turning in artwork. So long as the quality of the art doesn't suffer, I don't see any reason why he can't have all these projects going. Not to mention, we have no idea how far along each project is and which is a priority, only he does. So far as I know, is is how he puts bread on the table so why not have as much potential income in he works as possible?

I'm not comparing myself to Jackson but I do woodworking for a hobby / side business. Right now I'm restoring a turn of the century dining set (table and 4 chairs) but also have a prototype Franklin chair I'm making for my shop as well as some scroll saw items (ornaments, crosses, clocks, stuff to sell at farmers markets & online eventually) and a few boxes friends have asked me to make them. And again, that's just what I do in my off time.

What I'm getting at is that there's always more than just one project to work on, just so long as you prioritize properly it's alright. Oh, and another pic posted today, really digging these courts, they're slowly becoming my favorite JR set. Have a bit of a European court influence, along the lines of Piatnik, ASS and some Russian / Ukrainian decks.

Side note, I know I'm not the only one to say so, but that coffee table of his is awesome.

I am quite excited about this deck as it seems to be a reprint of a vintage deck, New Era No. 46, made by USPCC at then end of the 1800's (http://www.wopc.co.uk/usa/uspcc/new-era-46.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)...great stuff!

Well I certainly learned something today. Didn't know No.46 was a vintage deck.

Awesome reimagining!

Agreed! The re-imaging is actually better than the original in my opinion :D ...plus, you don't have to pay 350-400 for a used deck! Can't wait for this deck :ugdance:

I'm loving all the color! I seem to recall Jackson saying something about this being his favorite vintage deck, so it only makes sense that he would build his own. Think about it, if you love a Bugatti, and had the skills to build one, wouldn't you?

These are gorgeous, and the Redux of the New Era #46 decks are another restoration that was begging for a second chance.

I finally got the go from CartaMundi to reprint Dondorf #1000 ("Hundertjahrkart") a few weeks ago. I suppose that I knew it was a long shot, since they were sold to Altenberger und Stralsunder Spielkartenfabrik back in 1934 and A. S. S. was gobbled up by CartaMundi about 50 years later.

Not trying to take #46 off course, but since they didn't have true metallic inks back in the late 19th century, or even 1933 - The reprints are going to be more elegant than the originals. In the late 19th century they used yellow, and even the flat gold color used in the early 20th century pales beside the modern gold inks and metallic.

Just gorgeous stuff! The colors truly look like the late 19th and early 20th century decks. All are hard to find in top condition, and none are cheap even in played condition.

I suspect that he bought them, just like mine. The Bicycle #46 "New Era" seems to be more available from Australia - don't know why. I bought a basically unplayed deck there. The other three shown are tough gets, even though the Vlad Elko decks were made in 2005 for a Ukrainian restaurant in Moscow. It's Cossacks, witches, typical Ukrainian customes, etc with some wild jokers and has Cyrillic indices. V2 is either the 2011 reprint with Anglicized suit indices, gold inks, different tuck and backs (appears to be the one in the picture, so I assume not) or the second deck he did in 2012 called "Pekelna Horugva". I'm pretty certain they are both described on "World of Playing Cards" (wopk.co.uk). The second deck is a bit too dark (read "grim") for my tastes. Beautiful art, no question, just not in my collection.

New Era isn't that tough, but expect to pay $300 or more for an "as issued" deck with OB1 (Original Box in 1st condition). I paid $220 years ago, wish it was as clean as J R's! Finding a good OG Army/Navy even in "seconds" is tough because they just weren't made that well, just as the Tigers 101 is nearly impossible to find in unplayed condition.

Here's VE1 from 2005:

VE1_aces.JPG
VE1_spades.JPG
VE1_diamonds.JPG
VE2_back.JPG
I suppose I should cross-post these in the Russia forum of the Worldwide Time Machine? (I did - in "Soviet Union", but posted the missing courts not seen here as well)

I have both those Erko decks as well. I don't know how the reprints are that come in the black tuck boxes are but the originals are absolutely magnificent, got mine just before all the crap went down in Ukraine recently. The pictures do not do the artwork justice, the detail is just phenomenal, Vladislav Erko is one hell of an artist, just google his name to see what I'm talking about. Usually I like to keep my shelf queens in mint condition and they are some of the more expensive new age decks that I've bought but I had to open them.

Sorry to derail the thread further, but you can't gush enough about them. Excellent decks from the Ukraine. Side note: IDK about the reprints but the original ones are not standard poker deck size. Also, one deck is called Korchma Taras Bulba, which was printed for a restaurant in Moscow. And I forget what the name of the other deck is.
It depends on which version you have. Some are 36 card decks, some are 52) 54 with jokers). All of them are Russian made, with the exception of his Cossack deck, only in 34 cards and made in Ukraine.

There are two Erko decks one that is smaller and one that is larger that has a completely different court set that is much darker in theme which is my favorite.

I tried to move the hijack to "Soviet Union" in "Worldwide Time Machine". The 2012 deck Jackson mentions below is oversized somewhat. I found a good source for all of them. Let's talk over there, or perhaps I will open a thread in the Promotional Offers forum, so Jackson can have his New Era #46 thread back.

Awesome job, Jackson!

His dark work deck is good. This is my favorite card. This says so much. Notice how he uses a pillory as a transitional and uses the Ace card as a court card. It is perfect. Usually, cloth is the best material for the true transitional and the Ace is a Pip card. He broke all the rules and made it work. YOu have to think what ever Jackson does today you will not see his true cards until 4 years until he breaks the rules also. He is just getting started; He is young. If he wants to mimic cards today more power to him... He is learning what works... Less leather and more cards. Thank-you!

For what it's worth, this is a Queen, and not an Ace. The letter in the index location is a cyrillic "Д", which corresponds to our letter "D." (Remember my frothing at the mouth about this with the DQISHCHD deck, also known as "Aquilla" deck?). It is not an "A". The "D" represents "Dama" ("Дама"), or Queen, in Russian.

Hence, it makes perfect sense that this looks like a court card. :)

The Aces in that deck have indexes that look like a letter "T", which stands for "Tuce" (or "Toose"; it rhymes with "loose").

The "New Era" (N°46) deck is a VERY cool & interesting deck! I have one in "As Issued" condition with OB1 condition tuck (nothing to do with Obi-Wan, it "Original Box 1st condition, again, means perfect or within reason, depending on the age, what you would expect).

VERY hard to find, especially in OG condition. Don't have a clue why, but most of them seem to come from Australia. Maybe it was used as a test market for these - at rhe time - radical departure from the standard USPCC decks?

The only place this deck would have the Cyrillic D (looks like an A capitalized) would be if it were sold in the (then) USSR. An "E" would indicate an Ace in Nordic countries, where Ace translates to "Es" or "Ess" except them dang Norwegians, where it's "Issa", as I recall. Nobody (even Danes in my mom's family) know WTH they are saying anyway - except other Norge folk.

That particular card Sprouts showed is not a New Era #46 card, it's from one of Vladislav Erko's (Ukrainian) decks. Those (first edition) decks are Jackson's favorite decks.

Is there a date code on the AoS in the deck you have, Spouts? The card you show is what we would call the QoD.

I was thinking about Marcus' observation in ref: the Cyrillic capital "D" which looks like an "A" to 'Marikins. Buy, yeah - I only recognize that specific card because I recently sold the deck here on UC offering them to members as 1, 2,or all 3 of his hard to get Ukranian/Russian decks by ordering them from a friend's brother in Talin Estonia. Which one, I don't know, but it should be still on the http://UnitedCardists.com/ucoffers.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; page, though maybe not accessible because it's marked "Sold Out". I think it's from the second "dark themed" deck - "Pekelna Harugv". Maybe not, though - unless she's using her boobies for bewitching men, since that deck had Killer Kings, witches for Queens and Cossacks for Jack's. (original printing used Cyrillic indices: "R", "D" & "B" as opposed to K/Q/J). It could have been "(Korchma) Taras Bulba".

Answer is in the thread offering Vlad Erko's decks to members here: http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?t=7316" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually, I have them backwards above (and memory, "off the top of my head"), because it is a witch, ahahahaha...
