Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
Just sent the creator a note...based on the different pledges and availability you get at least 1450 decks minimum and that is without people adding extras...that contradicts the print run of 1100

Thanks for posting, Strag.
Pricing is definitely better, but I still can't get myself to pledge based on what I said in my OP.

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
They will no longer be a one way back.
"Another new update to this project is that the card's back designs will be revised, and the back design showed in the original project will no longer be the final design. This was a very tough decision to make, but due to the high amount of complaints about it being a one way design I decided that it will be changed to a mirrored design. It will still have the same style of the original back as well as the rest of the deck, it will just be mirrored so that you will no longer be able to tell if if a card is either upside down or right-side up. I hope that the original backers will not mind having the backs revised like this, but if changing the backs to a mirrored design is a deal breaker for you than I completely understand. "

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
Hey everyone!
I wanted to post an update on here but you guys are so fast!
Alright so here's whats changed:
- The minimum print run has been dropped to 1,100
- The pledge goal has been dropped
- The deck prices have been dropped
- The shipping has dropped in some areas
- The back design will be mirrored - but is not yet finished
As for the back design: I got a lot of advice from you guys and some people from Kickstarter that all urged me to make the back desined mirrored. While I was not in love with the original back, I wanted to give the artist as much creative freedom as I could. Also money is extremely tight at the moment, but regardless I think that it's something that needs to be done. It will still have the same style as the original back and the rest of the deck, it will just be mirrored this time. I understand if a lot of people would like to wait until the back design is completed before pledging, I just ask that you please keep checking the project or this message board because I will update it once it's completed.
The printing: If the project reaches it's goal by 100% than I will only be printing 1,100 of these decks. But if it goes beyond it's goal than the maximum amount of decks that I will print will be 2,750. That's mainly because I can't have any uncut sheets unless I reach this minimum, also I believe the quality of the stock and finish is improved. So the minimum amount of decks that will be printed is 1,100 decks, but the maximum could be as much as 2,750 decks.
Also if you have any more questions or concerns let me know!
I really appreciate all of the feedback that I received from the first project, so I promise that I am listening.
Thanks,
Seth Byrd

Seth,
You're still staying with USPCC.. right?
the reason I ask is that normally the min run at USPCC is 2500 decks. So your 1100 min run seems impossible

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
Hey CBJ,
The USPC rep told me that if we were going to print a lower quantity than 2,500 than the cards would be printed through their 3rd party printer.
So even though im still working with the USPC if I print 1,100, should I state that it's through their 3rd party printer?
EDIT: Here is her exact wording-
"Although the minimum we print at our facility is 2,500 decks, we do have a 3rd party printer located in the US that we can go through for you for much smaller quantities. Prices below include the cost of shipping and cello wrap."

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
Man, I've never heard that before.
Does anyone know who they are using for their 3rd party printer?? and is it lower quality?

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
I'll post this is the project description anyways, because it's definitely worth mentioning.
I just kind of assumed that since the USPC associated their name with this 3rd party printer that the print quality would be just as good, but that may not be a safe assumption.
Thanks for pointing this out!

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
I think it should be mentioned on the project, perhaps introduce a specific goal (150% funding) or something that would result in the project switching from USPCC 3rd party printer to USPC so it is clear (and presented in a manner that kickstart users are familiar with).
Couple of questions I would have for the USPCC (and anyone using their third party printer):
Couple of questions I would have for the USPCC (and anyone using their third party printer):
- Does the 3rd party printer use the same stock (bee/bee casino/bicycle) and finishes as the USPCC?
- Do they offer varying levels of quality control similar to the USPCC?
- Does the USPCC regulate the use of their name or address on the box in anyway when dealing with the 3rd party printer. For example can you still label the bottom or side of the box Printed by USPCC - Etranger, Kentucky or something similar?

This makes no sense. Why would USPCC have someone else manufacture a standard deck of cards for them and then be responsible for their quality? It sounds fishy to me. I will send an email to USPCC right now.
Thanks!

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
I want to say you did a great job aging these cards. The aging changes from card to card for a natural look, and, it's more subtle than most aged decks have been. A pet peeve of mine is decks that have the same age spots on every single card - they may as well not have bothered. I guess David Smith is the one to thank for that? Also very much like the gold pips for diamonds and hearts.
Big thank you for including Canadian in the free shipping.
For myself, I don't care who prints them as long as the quality is good. You need an example of this 3rd party printer's work - have they made any decks we may have seen?

Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
It's probably the Kansas factory that makes all those shitty Zazzle decks. The quality of those are complete garbage.

I am sure it is. USPCC just confirmed that the quality is not the same.
Thanks!
Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
Seth, you need to put up a disclaimer. The decks will not be of good quality.
Why not just print 2500? I would hold off on all the KS stuff until you nail down the design and the logistics.

This is key. Previous project creators who failed to do this usually had it blow up in their faces.Russell wrote:I would hold off on all the KS stuff until you nail down the design and the logistics.

Haven't seen any zazzle decks but I trust your assessment Russell. If it is the Kansas factory then I hope they don't use that option.
@LincolnCardCo - I signed up for 2 decks. The shipping has been changed in the beginning of the process but there is still a rider that says, paraphrasing, "You are outside of the US. Please make sure you have added $5 for international shipping". I understood that it was just a blip but some people might be confused.
If you need to restart the KS I will still be in there for the 2 decks.

Hey bud.
Unfortunately if by the end of the campaign you can't confirm that USPC will be printing these decks in house.. I'll be pulling my pledge on the last day.
Hopefully you can hit the goals needed to make this happen

I agree, you took the time to design a nice deck no sense cutting corners on the quality. Other creators seem to do alright in your price range. If you make it USPCC I am in.

So, just to clarify, has that Kansas factory anything to do with USPCC?

In name only. The quality is crap. Anyone who produces a deck made from that factory should be shot in the face for calling it a USPCC deck.max wrote:So, just to clarify, has that Kansas factory anything to do with USPCC?

Because that company is really designed for people who want to make cards to hand out for their business or for weddings. It is more of a souvenir type deck that really is not made to be handled over and over again. That is why decks like that typical have little to no long term value.
Thanks!

in that case does it make any sense that this Lincoln deck is made there? I have pledged for it, just for the design, but if the quality is no good, they will loose many backers...BMPokerworld wrote:max wrote:and why USPCC allows it? Re: NEW DECK - The Lincoln Deck
That's what we have been talking about....
His KS campaign says USPCC even though it is a much lower quality deck. It's technically correct while still misleading.
He would get better results from China, I am not joking. If he continues to say USPCC he is purposely misleading the quality of his product.
