Cards order in decks and Uncuts

Cards order in decks and Uncuts

Unread post by jsantafe »

Hello,
Mike and I started a conversation in another thread, but to avoid hijacking it, I think it is fair to open a new one. (Not sure if correct section, though)
We were talking about cards order in decks, about mnemonica specifically, and how uncuts need to be arranged to have the correct order when cut. Or maybe it is done afterwards?
Also, there seems to be different arrangement of cards in uncuts (it can be seen in the latest update from de Fuego! deck, for example). Does that affect the order in the tuck?

On the Memento KS campaign the uncut sheet was arranged differently and they said it would make the cards "pre-shuffled".

The answer about "does it affect order in tucks" is that - yes it does. That's why artists do it.

In general (I suppose there might be exceptions), that part of the process is mechanized. The cutting, stripping, punching out individual cards and stacking is - as far as I know - always done by machines.

So, you have to balance between "ugly/funny uncut" and "pre-shuffled deck", then.

No kissing kings for Dimension, Fuego and other decks!

I was thinking that it was Alex Chin's Seasons Verano & Inferno campaign that had the rearranged cards, and it looks like memory is correct, but I couldn't find a good graphics to show it, but even the one I found shows two Kings next to a Jack - which can't happen unless the cards are rearranged:

One that is definitely arranged to be nice for the uncut is Memento:

Thanks for taking this out of my thread (on something else), but I'm glad it came up. I'd never thought about the order on the uncut and how it pertained to the order in the tuckbox. (I guess I thought it was all magic! LOL)

Very interesting!

The other reason for this is for magic. If you have have a prestacked deck in a known order you can open a sealed deck, do a simple overhand shuffle and present - face up a deck that appears to be (but isn't) in a random order in front of an audience.

A basic move in any magician's bag of tricks, an overhand shuffle is also known as a false shuffle where you rifle the cards without really shuffling.

It would be nice to see an uncut from one of those preshuffled decks for sure!
As collectors and/or magicians, would you tradeoff a nice prearranged uncut in order to have a preshuffled, trick ready, deck?
