Yes. I understand that you seem to lean more towards traditional court cards. I didn't really want just regular court cards. I wanted to take my own spin on them and I came up with these designs. Maybe as you begin to see more of the courts, you will seem to like them a bit more?
Travis - I like the way you made the left side on your indices. The left side should hold most of the information. YOu don't break any rules, but your courts are a bit lacking. Usually they hold something like a flower, weapon, or item such as a an orb. Good Luck...

sprouts - Thanks for the comment! I understand that traditionally, the courts are holding something, but I wanted to completely stray away from the traditional courts. The only court card I plan on designing a bit more 'traditionally' is the King of Hearts. Thank you for the feedback!
I love love love the pips, and really like the tapestry look to the back.
But I have to agree with some of the earlier comments I guess. The court cards are what are keeping me from jumping for joy. They seem .. incomplete? for lack of a better descriptive. They don't seem to match the theme stylistically - but maybe it's still work in progress or I missed some explanation as to why they are .. professors?
Yeah I dont care at all if a deck has regular court cards the more different the better IMO. And you can go for traditional conventions, the yellow flowers etc regardless of if they look standard or not. Or leave it all together. Lots of very good decks stray completely from convention.
But.
The whole deck feels a little unfinished to me. I quite like the back and tuck as concepts and I feel they just need a little polish. But they are pretty cool and nearly there.
For the pips I also love them. I think they are the strongest thing about the deck.
The courts however are not just, "not traditional". They dont look finished. It feels like the rest of the deck was put together with some serious consideration, then the assignment was due and they were thrown together on paint in 5 minutes.
I really don't like being negative but I think this deck has a lot of potential.... Courts don't need to be traditional, or anything. But the way it stands they look like they were done as an afterthought to a reasonably well thought out design......
Hey guys, I'm trying to work on some new designs basing them more off of traditional courts so once I get finished with a few I'll post them here and see what you guys think.
Hey, everyone. I hope you're all doing well! So I've come up with a concept for a differently designed court card. Please, let me know what you all think.
I also like your pips, but not the original courts (the artwork seemed too sloppy)...with the suggested change in courts, I am definitely willing to back your project

Travis in the end i have nothing against custom courts, it's just the original ones were not doing it for me. Feel free to have some customization, but personally i like it better closer to what you are proposing than your first ones

Yeah I would like to pop in again and say I in no way whatsoever was trying to push you to any form of standard court type. Just point out in as nice as possible a way as I could what someone else has mentioned. The courts were sloppy. Very poor in comparison to the rest of the deck.
I don't mind standard courts but would be more likely to back something with different courts, as long as they were well done and presented which the first ones were not.
So if your switching to standard fine. But that was not the problem with your first courts, just that they were very poorly done. Especially in comparison to some of the better points of the deck. Especially the pips for example. Many people everywhere are very fond of them. So these great pips beside the poor courts made them look worse.
Take your own path, standard or not, just do it with more polish.
Thank you all for your comments! I'm really liking the newly designed court and it seems that a lot of people do as well. So that looks like the path I'll be taking. I want to thank everyone for the criticism. I'll finish up that King of Spades soon and hopefully some more as well and post them up here for you all to see.
Regards,
Travis
I do like the direction of the new courts, I think they'll be more widely accepted - though I didn't dislike the previous, they just lacked the polish that these are getting.
I'm looking forward to seeing the final version, I would still make some changes since you've already done such nice work stylistically (like adjusting the pips in the court art maybe? Take all my artistic advice as if it were delivered from a computer professional please.).
I like how you incorporated your custom pips on the KoS robe, can you do the same of the KoD and all the other courts? Having solid diamonds is a little inconsistent, other than that, looking good so far...

Yes, I plan on doing that as well for the rest of the Kings. Yeah, I wanted these stand out as much as possible but also relate to the deck as much as possible so I hope it's achieving that.
Thanks!
Hey, everyone! So I know a few of you agreed that the back design needed a bit of polish. So I decided to go back in and design a new back. I agree that the original back was a bit unfinished. It looked a little too straight to me. All straight up and down lines and such so I decided to add a bit of curvature to this one.I believe theres still a few things to be added. But this is the concept so far.
Thoughts?
Travis - I get your theme. You love that diamond. Your cards have really improved. I like your custom pip and suit indicator. I like your playing with the court border. Carful with the KoH. Maybe the sword should go through the back of his hair line. It would look better. Your BackOfCard could be better. I liked your first one. You had some corner badges going. Now it's just white negative space...

Sprouts -
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I think I've still got a bit to add to the back design. And regarding the KoH, what did you mean by the back of his hairline?
