Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
Huh, At first glance I thought these already existed. But, a quick search brings up a similar deck.

You must be thinking of the Bicycle Chinese opera deck from last year or the year before

Does seem very similar to that Alie deck.

Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
I actually think these would make a great uncut but the back is very lazy. They don't have an uncut offer or I'd probably pledge for one( as long as the price were reasonable).

There's a lot of potential here, but unfortunately execution remains wanting.

Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
Not pledging for this. But I do think this concept could be really awesome if designed and handled correctly. Not a fan of the 1-way cards though. Maybe in a different time with a different artist...

Easy pass. I do like the way his insides are bigger since he doesn't have a suit indicator for both his pips and courts. Nope, Nope, Nope

Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
Something bugs me about this project. I've only been collecting cards for a short time but I've always been interested in Beijing Opera face decks. I may be overly suspicious but I could swear that I've seen that back design before. It's probably my imagination but, since they are using a printer right there in Shanghai, I worry these decks already exist. I contacted the designer with some suggestions. If she makes changes then we will know for sure that this is a new project. I suggested she change the back design to something stronger- like a dragon or a Chinese character on a background other than white- to create a back as strong as the face. I also suggested she make the indices smaller so as not to take focus away from the face design. I'm not much of an artist but I think these cards have some potential. You guys have a lot more experience so I'd encourage you to contact the designer with whatever ideas you might have. Or you can pass them on to me if you are not a backer. Thanks for your help.

Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
So I emailed them with some suggestions and the added this update:
"Thank you everyone for making this happen! We appreciate all the suggestions we've received so far. After some heated discussion, we have designed a simple new edition of the back side, using the content we already developed. Please take a look and let us know if you like it. We may come up with other back design options early next week. Stay in tune! ^^"
Here is the new back design:
I did a search for that image and found this:
It is from a deck of traditional Chinese arts that can be found here: http://www.yeeed.com/2014/03/10691.html
and here:
http://zyqdjsbk.blog.163.com/blog/stati ... 170535939/
I'm going to confront them with this info but after that I'm at a loss. I'm pretty new to KS. Any suggestions?

Re: Chinese Opera Mask Playing Cards: For Tradition and Art
Got 'em. I knew I had seen that back before. I may even have owned that deck about 25 years ago when I was living in China. Here is the comment I left on KS.
"I believe I can safely say this is a scam. This deck already exists. You can see it here at auction for ¥20 - http://7788pkp.997788.com/a560_2378900_0/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Scroll down to the bottom to see the back.
At the bottom of this site it says: http://www.lianpu.com.cn/lp/lianpu/gylp/350.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"Peking Opera Poker
Peking Opera Poker is Zhao Yongqi (Yongqi) published works hand-painting, there are 54 different schools of Facebook, has a high collection value.
Price: 9.00 yuan"
I believe it is saying that Zhao Yongqi is the original artist. BTW currently 9 yuan is about $1.50 USD.
The site below has them in bulk: "Facebook drama "theme playing cards, the market retail price of 10.00 yuan / pair, zero-approved price of 4.5 yuan / pair, FCL wholesale price of 350.00 yuan / box. Need to contact us, tel: 13651276971
http://shijinbo.blog.163.com/blog/stati ... 1133247251" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Since it is impossible to change the back of an already existing deck, I believe they never intended to produce anything. I'd advise everyone to cancel their pledges immediately. I will be contacting Kickstarter about this. "
I'll be contacting KS immediately.

...and cancelled/profile deleted. Nice catch, flash. I have a feeling this guy will be back, though. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the same person pulling the Alchemy Cards scam.
