Badpete69 - There is no way possible way to help them. This deck is not functional. Crap! They are successful and will not listen to us. It's hopeless....

Apparently that title card is his back design, which is awful. I told him about the index pips and also that his 7 of spades has 9 pips and he said he would fix it. But it still doesn't help much if that is the back design. Someone pledged though.

I have one of their games, they tend to use TheGameCrafter and based on funding required I would be willing to bet that's who they plan to use again. The game I picked up from them wasn't very clear and others had questions about holes in the rules. They did deliver and I think they tried to clear it up, but I never took the time to try and figure it out since then. So it doesn't surprise me they have early issues here, but based on history they will deliver 'something'. I just don't have the energy or care enough about this theme to explain to them to at least go for a proper printer and make changes to the deck to take it to the next level. They may just fund at this small amount and consider it a success.

And amateurish on top of that. The only thing I do like is the court characters, but everything just tanks from there.

I just can't get over the red and black borders on the cards. Who thought that was a good idea?

Well, he is learning fast. He added the pip in the indices, but you are right it's not a good idea. He still has red and black bleeding into the cut border. It makes it a marked deck and you can't play with it in poker.

I think if he just took those borders off, the deck would look passable. I think a lot of kids who are into Japan would really like the deck, because it does seem to have a childish vibe to it.

I think the transfer to computer rendering takes away too much of the complexity and beauty of a woodblock printing style. With the texture of the paper and wood gone, and the charm of the not quite perfect registration gone, so much is lost. It has the style without the substance.

Japanese art is known for its sparing style and use if negative space. Those borders do junk it up.

When I saw the title I had some hope, sounded interesting, when I opened the thread, bit disappointed.
