Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Great find on that Green Club DragonSoul. I don't have one yet myself.
My own latest additions have all been thrift store finds.
*The Maverick is from 1974 and is a Svengali deck. It's mint and the box is close to mint.
*The Arrco Streamline has a barcode so likely from the 80s, and it has been much used. Prob won't keep them.
*The Ukiyo-E features the work of Kitagawa Utamaro, a Japanese wood block printmaker from the late 1700s, and is still sealed. This is my second one of these - trade anyone?
*The King deck is from 1984 and has red Bicycle backs, and unusual courts for USPCC. You can see them in the pic below.
*The Scandal game was made by the Scandal Beer Brewing company. They first released it as cards that were printed inside their beer cartons and had to be cut out to be played. Not a playing card deck as such, but I like the crazy graphics.
* The Japanese Castles is oversized and has armor on the jokers. Some of the castles are incredibly old to be in such good shape, 1201 being the oldest date of construction. The cards are still encased in a band of clear plastic and are unused. There are 2 leaflets with descriptions for every castle.
*The Seinfeld, nice to find these in a tin. All courts and aces are different.
*The mythology deck has Greek Gods and Heroes on every card and is unused.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
My copy of the Seinfeld deck does NOT have that joker! I don't recall what its joker is, but I'm almost positive that it wasn't THAT!
Edit:
As far as I can recall, mine had the joker with all for of them on the bench, but did NOT have the one with the tailed demon.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
I received today an extra set of the white and gold TWA decks. I wanted an extra set to play with. And noticed the joker had a teeny tiny design patent number on it. So I decided to do a search for it and found this. Just for anyone curious to know a little more about them.

I think that's deliberate retro by Scandal since they're a very recent brewery.
Don't know who made the Seinfeld. It has "Made in China" on the bottom of the tin, but if USPCC made the deck they would likely outsource the tin? No identifying marks on the cards and they are smooth.
Cool finding the patent. That's a short patent period - 14 years. I spent a couple of days going through public records like that when I was researching the USPCC History. Sometimes it was the only way to nail down a date for a deck, or for a change in the company.

That's the Greek joker, a satyr. Souvenir decks from Greece are known for their "interesting" pottery-sourced subjects I could not show the other joker that came with the deck, at least not on a public forum.

Thanks, Dazz! Does that mean that the Seinfeld deck with the Satyr was made for the Greek market?dazzleguts wrote:@RS That's the Greek joker, a satyr. @Paula: I was going by the overlapping U and S on the jokers but I guess it's not just a USPCC exclusive design. At least not where they lack jurisdiction.

Here's one that isn't in very good shape but, the box was so clever I couldn't resist!
Maytag refrigerators, featuring the Maytag repairman (who has nothing to do because Maytag appliances run so well).

I remember bidding on a Maytag deck on eBay back in the 90s. The repairman was on the courts, but I don't think it was this one (and I don't recall the box being a refrigerator, either).DragonSoul wrote:Here's one that isn't in very good shape but, the box was so clever I couldn't resist!

Just came in today (The Hudson Bay) playing cards by USPCC. For people who don't know what Hudson Bay is, its Canada's fancy department store, like in the States they have Nordstrom's or Macys. I just need to get a little Gugone, removed the price sticker on the back, but a little sticky is left. Hope you guys like them, I think there pretty cool.

UPDATE:
That's Hudson Bays colors, they always have something once a year representing the company colors like hand towels, pillows, watch straps....... they must have made playing cards one year, I had asked a few months ago if they had any playing cards(at the store), which they did not.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Thanks for the Hudson's Bay tip! I wish the tuck was more like the cards, but I love the cards so ordered a deck right away! Cool find!!!
Apparently they were $10CAD a year ago in stores. They can be found on ebay for the same plus shipping. I wonder if they give them away at stores now, but it was worth it for me.

Though I never shopped there, that Hudson's Bay deck looks good. I guess the number cards are standard.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
I would think that it would be the "Bee KUNG HEI FAT CHOY" deck.
"Kung Hei Fat Choy" (I have decks with it spelled "Gong Hee Fot Choi" and other variations) is a phonetic spelling of a traditional Chinese greeting/exclamation on Chinese New Year. And red and gold are more or less the traditional colors of the holiday (cards, often containing money, are traditionally sent - in red envelopes - to children to celebrate the New Year).
