Sher wrote:Oh, it's based on the little Mermaid of the original story? That's awesome. :) It would be great to know more about each court and where you got your inspiration. :)
Some of them are deeply inspired by different stories of merfolk. But some of them are a visual exploration of some different ideas not based on lore.
But yes, the story of the Little Mermaid is VERY dark... (spoilers below! for anyone who hasn't read it and cares)

First, she seeks the love of a human partly to gain an immortal soul, as mermaids do not have them. Second, she has to let the sea witch cut out her tongue, and is told that every time she takes a step on her human legs, it will feel painful like walking on knives. Third, she can NEVER be a mermaid again, and if she fails to gain true love of her target (the prince) she DIES.

She lets the witch cut out her tongue, goes to the surface, becomes very close friends with the prince, but cannot talk, because her tongue is gone. The prince ends up marrying someone else... so she knows she'll die by midnight of the wedding day... her 5 sisters show up at the surface having cut off all of their hair and given it to the sea witch... they give the little mermaid a knife, and tell her that if she kills the prince before midnight, and lets his warm blood flow on her human legs, she can become a mermaid again.

Instead, out of heartbreak... she jumps into the sea, dies and dissolves into sea foam....

yeah, NOT the same story most of us learned from the movie.

I just finished reading the whole story on the PDF you just linked... very depressing. I'm interested in the original stories, too. I've most read quick summaries on Wikipedia, though! Lol. Maybe I should buy that Hans Christian Andersen book.

I thought it had a happy ending, she became the wind and has the chance to enter into heaven which is partially why she sought the prince in the first place.

Yeah sad she died and all, but how many folk can say they've lived as part of land sea and air? She's like a pacifist SEAL.

@galen Ihenfeldt - Glad to hear. When you mention Tiffany. That means you have done your homework. Post a USPCC preview uncut sheet when you get it. That would be a good update and of course post some more cards. Keep the audience...

I do believe later on Hans added on a bit where she was given the chance to become an air spirit and had that chance, after certain time and events had passed.

I updated the KS tonight, with a new card reveal, the jack of spades, who is based on Fossegrim. Fossegrim is a Germanic water spirit who lures people to the bottom of the seas with his violin music, and then enslaves them.

Cool, I'm in! Is the limited any different from the standard or just a tuck swap?
Congrats to the ones with the $5 tier. Where you one of them Pierre?

Looks like it is just a tuck swap. I am curious why they completely revamped the deck, there was nothing wrong with the original art. Seems like that could only turn off some previous backers.

Also I don't mind early birds, but advance notice of a launch time is appreciated so that people at least have a chance at getting them.

Oh terrific, it's being produced through AdMagic and has an $8000 goal?

I'm in for one of each. The artwork is great but admagic decks really aren't good decks for playing with. Like we play with most of our decks anyway.

Ah, well I'll stick to the standard then.

The only AdMagic deck I have is Photo Grafis. While it's definitely a bad deck for pretty much anything aside from light playing and just looking at; I've seen people use way, way worse printers. It's a shame nonetheless.

I would suggest at the very least MPC as the default printer for anyone working on a tight budget.

I mentioned maybe upgrading printers if he reaches a higher printing goal. He'll save if he only has one deck to produce with 2 tucks.

I like the reworking of the faces. Looks better with the watery background than the white one he had on the first version.

Inadequate printer for my standards, and the indices look really out of place IMO.

I've played card games with Admagic printed cards. They're pretty good for that, no complaints there. Apples to oranges though, they're not my pick for playing cards. I'm in for an unlimited deck. It looks like there's just a tuck swap and the one way backs will keep this in the low use category for me. Kind of expensive for a non premium printed deck in my opinion.

It's interesting to see that this is the route the deck we saw months ago has evolved into. For me personally, I preferred the former version much more than this one. I feel like it's lost a bit of it's charm now and feels... busy.

My custom deck was produced through AdMagic and though I was disappointed with the massive shipping costs, thanks UPS, the quality was alright and the service was pretty good. This one will hopefully have better stock and finish since it's a much larger run than what I had.

Maybe he can do the original as a stretch goal. I wouldn't be surprised if some previous backers decided against pledging because it isn't what they pledged for originally.

Something tells me that's not going to happen. It would be very cool if it did though. I insta pledged for a handful of these, all Oh boy Deep is back! Then went back and looked at them and my pledge got lower and lower and lower. I actually said 'Ouch' out loud.
