So I Ordered 1 deck of the Legend Hipster deck from (hipsterplayingcards.com) and received two of these instead, they don't even offer them on there site, they shipped the wrong decks. Have these even came out yet??? I don't know anything about them. I wrote them haven't heard anything back yet. UPDATE: so I found a website Houdiniplayingcards.com, they must be the same creator/company.

I hate to cross-post, but I am glad to see that the MailChimp theory11.com version has started being delivered! The other obvious difference easily seen without opening the deck is the gold cellophane tear strip, just like Contraband. On the OG decks, that strip is clear. In my crappy pix, it looks like a line across about 1/2" inch from the top, but it clearly visible on the right side - pun intended.

I've received a few decks these past two weeks. Today's hall featured the Deckstarter deck, "Revelation," plus a few Theory11 decks

I'll note that pretty much every deck gently defied my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked Contraband... I picked up a pair just to see (curiosity and all), but didn't expect that they'd grab me, much like Medallions didn't grab me. Instead, I found the copper metallic ink to be very effective, and the courts much more appealing than I'd originally anticipated. The MailChimp decks, I expected to like, but wow. Having them in person, I like them so much more than I expected. Again, the metallic inks are used to great effect, and the very thin borders and playful illustrations really appeal to me.

Tycoons surprised me by not surprising me. They were pretty much exactly what I expected; having them present in my hands was no different from what I would have imagined after seeing all the hype about it. I kinda expected them to be either better than they appeared, or not as good. Instead, they surprised me by being exactly what I expected. Go figure.

Then there's Revelation. This is the first Deckstarter deck I bought as part of a campaign. I liked the artist's approach, and really expected to fall in love with this deck. Instead, the tuck box was ho-hum, and the courts were pseudo-repeating, the jokers were repeating, and the ad cards were likewise lackluster. The black suits and the red suits have different courts from each other, but the club courts are mirrors of the spade courts, while the hearts are mirrors of the diamonds. In the case where the royal is looking straight at you, this has the effect of appearing identical (subtle differences in the shading make it clear that they are still mirrors of each other.)

I don't know why I thought there would be completely different courts, but I ordered multiple decks anticipating that these would be enjoying a lot of playtime in the Rousselle household. I haven't been this disappointed in a deck since the last time I ordered a D&D-related deck (The first Fulton October deck, which also squandered great originality by repeating the courts, etc.)

This deck really did miss an opportunity to be so much better than it turned out to be. I'm bummed.

So I recently got these in from dealingdeuces (http://dealingdeuces.com/arrco-tahoe-li ... ction.html) but I'm a little confused... After reading the following description from their website, I made the assumption that each deck was individually wrapped in gold paper:

The Arrco Tahoe Gold Collection has a Limited Number of Only 500 Decks Available. All four, 1st edition, Arrco Tahoe decks are included in The Gold Collection. the Gold Collection includes one red, one blue, one black, and one white deck all individually numbered out of 500 and hand wrapped in expensive Gold Foil. After each deck is hand wrapped in expensive Metallic Gold Foil, the decks are then individually numbered on the certified seals. Each Deck is Individually Numbered out of 500.

While that still might be the case, all 4 decks came wrapped together:



The more I look at the pictures on their website, the more I realize my assumption was wrong. Either way the gold is very shinny and I'm glad I made this purchase!

Yeah, this is something I've started doing recently. I'm still not sure what I want to do with seals that I've removed.

I used to just cut the seals, but the seals have become more interesting of late. So, in general, I've been peeling them off and then placing them on the cellophane if I haven't completely removed that, or directly on the backs of the tucks (which, I realize, poses its own interference-with-the-art issue). If there's any sticky residue left from the original placement of the seal, I use Goo Gone to remove it.

Has anybody found a good method for dealing with seals?

Just to clarify, the 4 decks are wrapped together in gold foil, with a serially numbered seal on the outside. If you open up the outer foil, the 4 tuck boxes of the decks aren't individually wrapped, but the cards themselves inside of the tucks are individually wrapped in foil. Each of the decks have a seal that's serially numbered to match the outer seal. I like the 2 deck silver sets with just the Blue and Red decks, but they still have the same packaging treatment as the gold sets except they're done in silver foil. You don't feel so bad cracking open one of the silver sets. I have to say a lot of effort went into these with all the hand foil wrapping and placement of the matching serially numbered seals. Overall quite a nice package.

That's strange. I opened up one of my gold packages and the four decks were not individually wrapped on the outside of the tuck boxes, but the cards inside of the tucks were wrapped in gold foil. I would think that if the four decks were wrapped on the outside of the tucks, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the Blue, Red, Black, and White decks and wouldn't know which were which.

I think it's a cardist and historic collector thing. I was wondering that myself and what I found was remarks about the impressive handling on them. But they were talking about the D&D decks which I assume are the same ones being sold here just fancy wrapped.

True statement hence I decided to opened them all because i wasn't sure what i got in the end. It ended up being the 4 AARCO decks but lots of wrapping got discarded. maybe my cards were triple wrapped hehe and the decks inside are wrapped also

Yeah from what I heard, DD is the one doing the wrapping so in the end it is nothing special. It is like I would wrap 50 decks of my collection and number them 1/1. Wasn't he stopped from selling a deck from Dan and Dave with special foil he had done himself. I know it is in one of the old threads from a few years ago

That's a cool idea decibehz. I've just been sticking the seal onto a piece of the tuck cello, cutting it out with a margin of cello and slipping it in the card box. A stamp mount could be slipped in the box too and would protect the seal better. I think they're about card sized?

Vintage Tahoe decks used to be one of the most sought-after vintage casino decks by cardists, probably right behind Jerry's Nuggets, and Golden Nuggets (the Las Vegas versions, not Atlantic City). What set the vintage Tahoe's apart was that the cards were sealed in foil before being placed in the tucks - I don't know of many other vintage casino decks that got that treatment back in the day. Most of the highly collectable vintage casino decks are 40+ years old now, so when you open them up to manipulate (I know, unthinkable for all you collectors) they don't handle so well, even if the deck is sealed and in mint condition, because atmospheric conditions, temperature, and humidity will eventually have a negative impact the older a deck gets. But with vintage Tahoes, the cards sealed in foil inside the tuck offset a lot of these negative factors so the cards handle pretty well compared to other vintage casino decks of the same time era. Plus, there is always that cool factor when you open up an old vintage deck and you see the cards wrapped in silver foil inside, and when you crack open that foil, the cards are minty fresh inside. So what is so special about Tahoes is that the cards have always been sealed in foil inside the tuck.

When Dealing Deuces reprinted the Tahoes, he decided to wrap the cards inside in foil as a nod to how the original vintage Tahoes were packaged. He then put them in 2 & 4 deck sets and wrapped them again in foil and serially numbered the sets and decks to make them more appealing to collectors. I know DD blew out a bunch of silver sets to D&D, but I'm actually surprised there are still gold sets available on his site.
