Hello everyone i just have a quick question about Metallic Ink. Do they really hurts the handling of the cards or is it just a myth? I used to think it really does but recently in some of the posts i read that it really doesn't. So i am just curious.

Ugh.. We've all seen and heard reviews from people who dont know anything about what they are talking about. Ink is ink. It doesn't matter. There is a 'plastic' coating over the ink either way.

I would say it had an impact before the Magic Finish, now it's a non-issue.

First it was the Jaqk i remember a review from D&D stating the cards dont fan well because of metallic ink. I do think with the magic finish solves the problem until recently i start using the new seasons seronda deck. And honestly as much as i love the design, they dont handle well and most importantly they dont handle like aristocrat stock. So i am wondering what causes this, i thought one of the possibilities could be metallic ink so i want to make sure it does not matter.

There is no Aristocrat stock anymore. It is either Bicycle-standard or Bee-casino.

Also, the quality of the die (sharpness) can factor into handling too.

Do you know why USPC is stopping all these stocks?

I can't speak for the company obviously.

Think of the business as a whole... It is unnecessary and expensive to keep all those stocks when 99% of your business is one of those two. Also, they did this a while ago, this isn't new.

Yet, you still hear reviewers talking about shit that they obviously have no smurfing clue as to what they are talking about.

when did they get rid of aristocrat? was it recent?

As mentioned by Russell, there are only the 2 stocks as well as 2 finishes. The rest is all marketing. The problem is that the USPCC allows the designers to use any verbiage they want to label their stock or finish. Which is the cause of such confusion. I would probably say, any deck from the last 5 years that used terminology other than Magic, Smooth finish, Bee or Bicycle stock is basically just marketing the same material with a different name to gain interest in the deck.

As for handling, I can only speak from experience as a designer and novice collector. I have owned decks which have the same qualities yet handle differently. Why? Maybe the USPCC's quality is based on a batch by batch basis rather than a consistent assembly line that we would all imagine. All I know is that with my Grid decks, I had one batch that handled like shit compared to the rest of the 5,000

In the end, all decks have a plastic coating so ink saturation, specialized inks and other variables should not effect the handling of a particular deck.

2 of my decks weren't from that batch .

As with 99% custom decks not labeled 'Bicycle', Hornet has bicycle stock.

Bicycle stock = Bicycle, Aviator, Bee*, Maverick, Hoyle, Hornet, Bulldog, Aladdin, Tally-Ho, Texan, Aristocrat, etc.
Bee Casino = Bee, or any other brand really... ie the 'Skull & Bones' from CARC is on Bee-Casino but uses the Bicycle brand.

* Yes, you can brand a deck 'Bee' with bicycle stock, don't be fooled. When in doubt ASK the creator.
