I hate one-way backs that have no thought behind it, the creator comes here and says well because I like it this way. But this isn't one of those cases, there is clearly a concept behind it and it being designed to look similar makes me appreciate the design even more
Just saw this thread and thought I'd jump on to clear up the one-way back thing. The back of the box (with tree and roots) actually isn't the card back. I have a card back that's a true two way design based on the front of the box. The tree/root design was something I wanted to include on the box because it really fits the theme and "roots" of the tarot in Alchemy - that's why the flap says (in latin) "As above, so below." Hope that helps.

Man, some of you guys are sooooooooo picky about the 2-way backs thing!
To me this falls squarely within the "close enough" category!
Plus, It's Chris O., and it's flipping gorgeous!
Have to agree. If this was the back which it is not, it would be in the close enough category. It's hard to pull off a "1-way" back and make it work. It takes a lot of thought and perception. I do know if you what to do it has to be somewhere in the middle of the card. It can't be on the other edge where you can see it during game play. Chris has given us a perfect example of something that would work. Who knows maybe this could be v2....
I like the idea of 2 elements surrounded with negative space followed with badges in the corners, but please no circles in the badges. I've been seeing that way to much lately.

I'm excited to hear this! Will most likely be pledging.
Why January 1st... Gotta be nursing a hangover while sitting at the computer waiting for these to go up. Chris is a can't miss artist though, love his style.

Amen to that. If Chis has his name on it mine's gonna be on the pledge list. Looking forward to seeing more of this one.
I was kind of hoping this would be a proper Tarot set, but it appears it will tarot themed standard set. I still don't have any tarot sets so it would have been cool, but I'll be getting this anyhow, looks awesome.

Maybe Chris could make that a stretch goal... After XX thousand, unlock a tarot deck.

Yes it was rather amusing it was launched without any extra deck add-ons. I'm a bit considered about the high goal of $45K, which seems too much for only two decks (but obviously will cover all his costs with ease). I'm going to get at least 2 of each and hoping that being a staff pick will help make the funding come out all right in the end. Another spectacular deck by Chris!

@th4mo - I guess you great credit with the "close enough" category. He decided to go with the "1-way" back of card and "1-way" courts. Love the back of card wish he would show a fan. He does have it right with Hearts & Cups, Diamonds & (Coins or Pentagrams), Clubs & Clubs (Polo sticks, staffs), Spades & Swords. He has done his research.
This should be fun. We have 2 queens. What are they? Give you a hint. In the Tarot Cards ,they love thrones. The other queen has fruit and a bunny. What could it mean?
Hey everyone, I’m amazed we reached the “final” stretch goal so quickly! I’m humbled, awed, proud beyond words, and inspired by you to make this the absolute best campaign I can. So bear with me, this is a long update, and there’s some really great stuff here.
'Final' Stretch Goal
One of things I try to do with my projects is to make stretch goals rewards for you, the backers (see new stretch goals below for the proof behind that statement). A lot of projects make stretch goals chances to sell more stuff, but I try to avoid that if possible. Additional decks though have a lot of cost associated with them. So making them stretch goals is the only way to make sure I don’t go in the red with the project.
So many of you asked for an extension deck that would (along with the other decks) make a complete tarot card deck, that I really wanted to find a way to make it happen. I also love this subject matter and it’s probably pretty clear how much my heart is behind the extension deck. So I’m really proud to announce the details:
The Arcana Extension Deck (Tarot Major Arcana cards)
This deck is a compliment to the decks already in the project. It will contain the remaining 18 major arcana tarot cards, 6 gaff cards, and four knave cards. Because of the printing minimums, BOTH light and dark versions will be ganged up in one deck.
It takes a LONG time to draw art this detailed, and it will take me easily through June/July to complete the art. Just doing this one card deck is like doing 2 more card projects. It’s a pretty major undertaking, even though it’s one I’m super excited to do. But with that in mind, the extension deck won’t ship until December 2015. That’s a long time to wait, but it will take that long to produce. All the other rewards will ship as scheduled, but these decks will come in a second mailing if you choose to add them on.
