Re: Counting The Cards KS
I am taking all of your comments into consideration! Didn't have time to do a good video. I used something I made for a business client that I never used. Slapped some logos on it. My real goal here is to make a film. I wrote the screen play over the course of this year. I thought I would try a deck of cards to help me raise money. I have some equipment for filming but not enough! The Character in the film is not normal, so all this fits kind of perfectly with what I am trying to do. I had no idea how anyone would feel about my card design. I guess I know now!

Re: Counting The Cards KS
If your main goal is to make the film, what's the point of a deck of cards? Sounds counterintuitive when you say "I'm doing it to raise money for my film". IF such a project were to fund, most of the money would be used in printing and shipping. An unnecessary expense when you can just launch a film funding project and dedicate the funds to your true goal.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
Because the card is a very important part of the movie, so that was my first idea! Also if you can get a tie in product that sells like a deck of cards based on a movie $$$. Movie fund raising on KS doesn't seem to work very well in a lot of cases. Time is important. Graphics and animation are very time consuming. I thought I would launch a novelty deck based on the one in the film. I really didn't study too much about the standard decks that people make for the playing card industry because that really wasn't my goal. I know I've made a lot of mistakes especially with the presentation and how I made the faces. I was looking for a stupid video that would shock people hoping it would go viral. It was just kind of embarrassing. Never did what I wanted. As far as the news logos that's exactly what the cooler guy did when he set a record.https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ry ... s-actually" I followed his web design almost to the T. Just the product was differant so it doesn't look the same. What I didn't realize is that I didn't know what he did behind the scenes to make it work. Things I couldn't see. I really wasn't trying to make anyone angry or upset. Just trying to make something work. I thought I had it figured out, but I guess not. Also with the counter and the 1 million decks, I was trying to create a novelty that maybe people would get into to try and make it count and be a part of this. It's not that I thought that that would actually happen, but I thought there was a chance. It's kind of hard for me to see what people are going to do ahead of time. So I launched and am trying to learn along the way and make the changes I can as fast as I can. I still am not sure what I should do next. The film is what's important. It is quite dramatic and dark. The character is more like the Joker Personality card I made. Click the link below.

If you like the girl I made with the baseball cap, here are some more I did of celebrities a couple of years ago. They are pretty good. None of the bodies are actually their bodies. They started out completely naked and I made composites and put the clothes on them. (only the girls) Parts of the faces and maybe some of their hair actually belong to the celebrity. http://celebrity-wallpaper-1.blogspot.com/

Seems that the creator is running another project simultaneously on Indiegogo, that he just launched for some reason, because it's going to do much better than it currently is on KS.

@Lonnie - Indiegogo is not exactly the friendliest place for playing cards. You may have to rethink your whole theme... Just saying.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
I decided to create a serious deck. Here is some of the progress I am making! The project is called Black Stone. It will be made by bicycle. I learned from my mistakes. Never put your face on a playing card. Men won't buy it or even like it. I had no experience with designing cards before, but I have spent much time studying how to do it, now. This will probably launch in a couple of weeks. The problem I am having with this forum is all the cheap sniping, even though I admitted that I was way off target on the Counting The Cards concept deck. A lot of personal attacks, not just about my graphics. If you actually read some of my posts you would understand what I was trying to do, even though it didn't work. This is not personal, unless you want to make it that way. It was just a marketing concept. But I'm going to show you that I can make a nice deck of cards.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
LOL and yet you make this post and call people children? Sorry, never backing anything by you, I just find your tone disgusting.
HINT: When you are someone trying to sell something, YOU are held up to a much higher standard than your customers. You have to take abuse and grow a very thick skin AND you don't get to call out your customers, even (especially) if they are wrong.
Oh and BTW, you still have made design errors (one-way back) and I personally don't like your design artistically. I don't even get what the "Blackstone" theme means.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
Yeah, people can be really rude here and it's not polite. However, I have seen a number of designers not take it personally and ended up getting a lot of free help. Don't attack back and listen to the suggestions, but don't compromise your artistic vision too much. Although, you may have to a little to make it a commercial success.
This is an improvement from a collectors or possibly functional deck, but still a ways to go. I'm not sure about the aged background style, but it's not too bad. The overall design of the back is pretty neat, but the stone looks like it was just pasted onto a stock photo and needs to be blended more with matching colors and tone. Why are the design elements around the stone silver and not gold and purple like the rest? Same for the tuck.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
There is a difference between thick skin and being abused. I appreciate your comments though. You really don't know me. I listen to every comment. The Counting The Cards concept was very painful for me. Artist are that way about their work. Even though the project was cancelled a month ago, some people just won't stop trying to find ways to continue to knock me down. I get it already! I realise why it was not good, trust me!
I'm going to explain a little better what it was and why? The faces no one liked, I was acting. I was trying to get a graphic of the feeling of the character for the movie I have been developing. Below is a short scene that I wrote for the screenplay that took me over a year to write. That's where it all started.
The character "Grey Dalco" who is based on the Joker personality card that I wrote for the deck, uses the Magical and Powerful Card to "Time travel," "See Peoples Personalities," as a "Weapon" and a "Magical Tool." He can also "Communicate with it" into different Realms and Times in history. He gets into all kinds of situations on his journey that the awesome and all powerful Playing Card helps get him into and out of.
He was a scientist from the future who built a huge machine that was able to do all these things. He has power over physics and changed the machine into the cards. Now he uses the cards on his journeys.
The Scene (READ IT!!!) Maybe you will begin to understand!!!
It seemed like he wasn't going to be here as long as he thought. But time would tell. It wasn't a bad place after all. There had been a lot worse Grey thought as he glanced at the history timer before sliding the card back into his pocket. The stars looked different here than they did at the last place. But they always did in another galaxy. What was it about that girl last night, the one with the black hair and green eyes. He could still remember her eyes. There was something about her. She was the one he was looking for, he was sure of it. He was usually right. But it didn't matter, he was close enough. She was a real piece of work. How could anyone who looked like her conceive of something so diabolical that would literally change the course of history for an entire galaxy. But he knew how. He knew all about it. The chain of events that would destroy over a million planets, one he was destined to be on, but not for another thousand years. He knew it wasn't all her fault, but it never was. But that made no difference.
The card said he was where he was supposed to be. The card was never wrong. He knew what he had to do. But destroying her would give him little pleasure. It was too easy. He would meet her tonight. The same place he saw her last night. He didn't have too. But he wanted to look into her eyes when she realized what was happening. At least that was something. She wasn't the only one that was going to die. The whole city was in on it. She had them all fooled. Some kind of mystical power she had over them. If he was going to have a future, and he was, they all had to die. A small group compared to some of the others, only a few thousand. If only they knew, it might be more of a challenge. The only thing left for him to think about now was how was he going to make this more interesting before there was nothing left but buildings and a dessert. As he turned around to go back to the bar to have a drink and contemplate the events that were going to end this charade, forever, she was there. She was standing still in the dark. He could barely see her, but he knew it was her. She was staring at him, her green eyes glowing unnaturally, the glint of the moon reflecting from her shiny pitch black hair. A chill ran down his spine. This was becoming interesting sooner than he had expected. He quickly pulled out the card to see what it would say about her. Then he decided not to, and slowly slid the card back into his pocket. He knew it didn't really matter, not now....
As far as the actual completion date, probably not in the fall. I still need money to move it into production. It will be made with green screen filming and computer based imagery. It will not be animated or a cartoon. Some elements will be animated with 3d modelling. I am working on those elements now. I have been studying movie making for several years now.
I hope this helps!

Re: Counting The Cards KS
@counting - Yea you're right. You have improved your back. It's "1-way" though. You need to make all the background the same. I see you're going with a single element in the center with dual elements on the mirror image. You have also included corner badges to show up in your fans. You have some negative space between all three elements. This seems to be the modern thing to do today. It seems to work and ppl like it.
You also need to change that diamond though. It does look stock off some image site. At least your "52" is right-side up. You have the makings of a good back.

Re: Counting The Cards KS
You come in here and insult us with that horrendous design claiming you want to print a million decks, you clearly undermine the effort and talents of the other deck designers and piss on our taste. Most of us think that your previous effort was just a joke and obviously dont take it too seriously, but if you were i have bad news for you...counting-the-cards wrote:There is a differance between thick skin and abuse. I appreciate your comments though. You may be right about the gold color and not silver. I will see if I can transform it. The stone also. And Strag, if you don't know what a Blackstone means, god help you. I dont know what store you work in but the customer is not always right. I don't want your business so quit crying. If you don't like me personaly than that's your problem. To all the rest, thank you! I always listen to positive comments, or even negative. Even now, with your "nice" deck, there really isnt much to like. A lot can be told simply from your choice of font. btw, what the heck is blackstone ?! Nothing related even turns up on google, a blackstone is just a black gem like onyx ?! Tell me there is something more to that.

Cool story, bro. All I can say is that attitude like that is only detrimental to your success, but you seem to have it all figured out so I'm sure you won't lose any sleep over it. Re: Counting The Cards KS
The deck was not designed for card collectors. The word novelty was right in the title. I never asked for anyone to come in here and post anything. I wish they didn't. My attitude is just because I spent months working on it. I am wore down because of all of this. I apologize, I really do. I tried to stay positive. It lasted for the first two pages of posts. I can't take it any more. That card no longer exists. I'm still working on the new card design and I want everyone's suggestions and comments, I really do! I have written down about 50 ideas for concepts. The black stone, I'm not sure? The main graphic design is a hand painted image using acrylic paint. I don't want to change that because it was a lot of work. I'm willing to change almost anything else. I'll post some updates for comments and suggestions as I go. Thanks everyone!
I'll try to think of something else. How many themes are there that are awesome? They are all fairly simple as far as theme. I am doing my homework. Since I am not buying my own card I want constructive help through this process. I also would like to turn enemies into friends. For some reason that is important to me. I am not trying to insult any one. I do lose a lot of sleep because of all of this!
