Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
I laughed at "combine tucks to create an EPIC BATTLE"
Anyway, it's not bad but I would rather have the pips have a more oriental feel to them. The ninja printed at the back of the tuckbox looks like darth vader.

Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
Erm how about finishing the orbiter campaign before starting this one ?
Pros: Stunning artwork for the courts, by far the best aspect of this deck
Cons: Pips are bad, tuckbox is bad, back design and court layout too busy for me
Why the dragon imagery all over the deck ? Ninjas and Samurais dont usually have dragon imagery plastered all over them, as they are the symbol for the emperor

Chalk it down to artistic liberty. Considering real ninjas didn't actually wear black robes to begin with. They were more likely to blend in as common folk: monks, farmers, merchants, etc.volantangel wrote:

I'd say the extent of research is mangas. and I'm cool with that. Looks nice. But I want all my other decks first.
And I STILL don't know what the V for Vendetta deck is.
Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
Hi everyone! I just wanted to address a few comments.
You're absolutely correct about the ninjas. They were mostly poor farmers, and most of their weapons are actually derived from farm tools that were changed a bit for combat.
The other decks are coming! Viking is at 75% shipped and MADE is with Bicycle for production, so everything is moving in the correct direction, so please don't let that hold you up at all on pledging
As for the Vendetta decks, I'll give you a bribe as you've been patient.
It was actually designed as a business card originally. Here's the link to the original thread.
https://whyweprotest.net/threads/i-can- ... gns.33675/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's also worth mentioning that there will be 2 additional decks released that will be completely different then the first set, artwork and all. These decks are more "traditional" and true to the actual culture of the theme.
Enjoy!
Not sure if I see the reasoning behind this. There's lots of folks out there who run projects simultaneously, and they aren't hinging on each other, so there's no real correlation or reason to wait.volantangel wrote:Erm how about finishing the orbiter campaign before starting this one ?
Actually the Samurai worked for the Emperor as his government enforcers, therefore their armor was sometimes adorned with dragons and imagery. If a samurai left his post and had "no master", they were called Ronins. The ninja's were typically poor farmers and considered the "resistance", and typically did not dress up in stereotypical black ninja gear.volantangel wrote:Why the dragon imagery all over the deck ? Lol, not Mangas, just trying to reach a large audience, so you have to go generic with it.Eoghann wrote:Chalk it down to artistic liberty. Considering real ninjas didn't actually wear black robes to begin with. They were more likely to blend in as common folk: monks, farmers, merchants, etc.

i think the design overall is quite nice.
only think that the 2-T cards may be a bit dull considering so much is happening with the rest and the tuckbox.

Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
I really like these a lot. I even like the pips, they have an inner glowy kind of feel designed this way that I think is really slick. The boxy shape of them isn't bad either. I particularly like the club and the heart. Chunky indices aren't usually something I like, but I find them appealing on these. Maybe because they're cool as hell over the full bleed of the dragon along the cards edge.
The art on these I think is gorgeous. The courts skin has a painted on look that I think is very striking and exciting. Sometimes an art style moves a person, it has that effect for me. Exciting in that I get a sense of the action taking place, movement and flow. I get a sense of motivation behind the figures for sure. That's not something that's easily done on a playing card. They don't often come a live like these do. For me much more on the samurai deck than on the ninja deck, again I think due to the way the flesh was handled, just see more of it on the samurai than the ninja. They're both very good in my humble opinion.
Card backs are fantastic too. The ninja back is a little more interesting with the samurai having the open space behind the crossed swords. Not that I'm complaining, it's a great red color on the samurai deck. Seeing more of that red isn't a bad thing in my book at all. The tucks are great fun too, they make me think something entirely different than what the decks actually are haha. I love that, "Here's a hint, wait till you pop these.", going on.
I'm just going to say it, these are some of the best warrior theme decks I've seen. Not just this year, any year. A lot of people will probably disagree based on the pips, some people probably hate them. It's okay, disagree. If you take a chance and pick some of these up, when they're in your hands you'll very likely find you've changed your mind. These are better than good.

The great artwork makes up for lack of the pips which aren't bad.

For some reason I knew they were gonna make "special edition" tucks. Hope someone jumped on that EB tier I gave up.

Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
Not hitting the 20K mark with this "new" release seems that people are getting tired of this tucks swaps.... Hopefuly designers will understand this and stop this money grab with what they call "special edition".

If they really want to make a special edition, make it really special then. This is nothing special at all.sms69x wrote:Not hitting the 20K mark with this "new" release seems that people are getting tired of this tucks swaps.... Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
That's why I cancelled my pledge. A tuck swap just isn't going to cut it anymore. They are going to have to "gulp" design another deck with the same theme in mind.volantangel wrote:If they really want to make a special edition, make it really special then. Don't worry....... it'll probably be two more tuck swaps after this one which isn't no problem to me.

agreed, think they should do something like what Encarded/KWP have done with their recent projects. Those are real special itemsvolantangel wrote:If they really want to make a special edition, make it really special then. Re: Bicycle Feudal ( Ninja and Samurai ) - Now LIVE on KS
Oh you wacky folks on UC.
As always, I appreciate all the comments and feedback, and I thank you all for them. But, I have to admit I'm confused about some of things being said. The Feudal special editions, at least in my opinion, are pretty cool!
They come with a completely different tuck box and art. A custom sleeve that is hand numbered and signed. And, a cast metal Crooked Kings seal.
Jackson's Tally-ho deck (since someone mentioned it) is awesome. If I'm not mistaken, his special editions come either gilded, or in a wood box. They're the same cards as the standard tally-ho, just repackaged a little differently. And, most collectors don't open their decks, so if they get the gilded deck, they'll not even see a difference.
We opted for a more apparent change, in that you can see the difference in the decks without opening them. Same concept as the Tally-ho wooden box.
We worked very hard on the Feudal decks, and it seems a lot of people REALLY like the artwork, which makes me very happy
I would simply say the same thing I've said in the past. If you don't like something that's unlocked, then don't add it. It makes no sense to leave a project and miss out on something you DO like, just because there's something you DON'T like made available as an add-on. It's simply that... An add-on.
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

I couldn't agree more. I really don't understand the issue at all.
There has been many instances where other designers have hardly done anything different in the variants/special editions.
I'm not really sure what people are expecting.... different cards in the tuck? Then wouldn't that be a completely different deck??
