New Deck from The Virts

Unread post by Encarded »

Just came across this on Twitter. Looks like the Virts are releasing a deck designed specifically for card flourishers. Interesting. I've had that concept rolling around in my brain for a while too, I'm curious what they came up with.

Ooh, color me excited!

And Paul, I hope you'll make a WIP thread on your own concept once you have enough material :)

This deck looks promising! Seems like it will be a simple design, which I usually like.

If there's anyone who knows what elements need to be in a deck exclusively for flourishers, it should be the Virts. I don't think they'll be able to make any significant changes in the physical properties of their deck, they'll probably have to choose between the standard offerings by USPC, so it'll probably be either casino-grade Bee or Aristocrat stock with Magic finish. What I'm looking forward to is how it will be designed to suit cardistry specifically.

It's definitely an interesting looking deck. Hopefully it'll be priced reasonably with reasonable shipping...

There's a fine line between minimalistic and plain. That design is too close to plain!

Thanks, Randy

We haven't seen the cards at all yet, so I think it's too early to say anything.

And they outright said in the mail that the box design is not the back design. I like it, it's very undestated, it's a nice contrast compared to a lot of other, busier designs.

That is true. I'm just basing my comments on the images they've shown. I can't imagine the cards being a whole lot different than the Tuck though.

I'm guessing we'll see a borderless deck with lots of edge detail and bold color areas to really emphasize fanning and movement. I'm curious if they went to the extreme and did something crazy on the faces, since this deck is meant for flourishing.

Huron said the back design is what makes this deck cardistry-specific, so I'm guessing the faces will be standard.

I'm getting the sinking feeling the Virts are pulling a T11/D&D style overhype on us and we're going to be disappointed that the actual product didn't come close to living up the the hype.....

God, I hope I'm wrong.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. this is all subjective anyway, so have they done something dishonest if it doesn't live up to certain peoples expectations?

Well, they are kind of setting the expectations a wee bit high:

"The best deck for card flourishing is the one designed for it. Be the first to experience the only deck of its kind."

Personally I have no expectations for it (like an Adam Sandler movie). But I'm rooting for it!

I'm quite surprised that we can see a rather thick normal border. The big solid areas of color are not surprising based on the box, but I would think that putting things close to the edge would be a huge factor if you are making a deck specifically for cardistry. Hmm. Guess we'll have to wait and see what the surprise is.

I'm excited about this deck. The back looks bold and interesting, yet fairly simple. The court cards are custom, but also simplified like in Smoke and Mirrors.

Reminds me a lot of the queen of diamonds from the Players deck.

I like it a lot though! Very simple, and nice looking.

The Queens are very well done! A lot better than I expected after seeing the Tuck Box.
Hopefully they took the same care into the Back Design elements that haven't been revealed yet!

thanks, Randy
