Thanks!
When you said tall, I thought you meant the egyptian ones were oversized to compensate for how narrow they were cut. Pretty neat though. Is that glare or do they metallic inks?

@ecNate - Is there a date on that transformation deck? Just curious when it was produced.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
I've seen these called "Sputnik" and "Steampunk", but whatever the correct name is, 1960's is correct. I have a few Waddy's Rondo and Cir-Q-Lar round decks, and most are from about 1960-1980, although there may be exceptions. Jace? What do Brits call this back pattern? Somebody told me these were reprinted recently - I haven't seen a new deck. ??dazzleguts wrote:That is a cool deck Eoghann, and thanks to you I will have some of my very own.
This one is for Jase:
It's a double deck from his favourite card maker....
Waddingtons "Rondo Circular Playing Cards". I was very lucky since they don't usually show up with the ante cup and leather box. If you like the cards they do show up fairly often for decent prices, even still sealed, but will probably be in a square cardboard box...
According to Jase's Waddingtons article in Worldwide this ace was used between 1930 - 1975. With this joker and back I think these are from the 1960s.

That's a pretty loose fitting cellophane to allow them to pop up that much.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Have you handled the Serpentine decks, Pete? Those are Legend/Expert's latest Emerald paper bond stock with the latest Emerald finish as well as precision cut with a new stripper/blade system specifically designed to reproduce the old style traditional cut and feel and handling - or so it seems. What do you think? Smell? It's also a new factory - not the one that's been used recently a lot in Taipei. I didn't get any myself, forgot the darned things (I bet they are still available, huh?).badpete69 wrote:Got a couple orders today... Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
I haven't received the Serpentine decks yet, but got these in the mail!
I came in third for the Heretic Alchemy Quest. My prize was the choice of one Private Reserve deck. Lorenzo generously accepted my offer to trade for a second Reserve deck. Thanks, Lorenzo!
I also won a Tatler deck from LPCC for correctly guessing the logo in a Twitter contest. A post on the PCF has led me to believe that this is the unreleased deck offered for purchasing twenty Serpentine decks.

Here are a few recent arrivals:
First: Hey everyone, you'll never guess what I just got -- a deck of playing cards!!
Yes, and here it is:
First: Hey everyone, you'll never guess what I just got -- a deck of playing cards!!
Yes, and here it is:
I was going to post a few more, but I am having computer problems which prevent me from doing any more scanning.I bought it on ebay for $1.98 only because of the box, which has "A Deck of PLAYING CARDS" on the front. That amused me, so I bought it.
The listing had no images of the cards, but I pulled the B-I-N trigger just to get the box, but with the hope that this inexpensive"pig in a poke" would have custom courts (Hey, it happens!! although sadly, it did not this time, as you can see above).
It's just a typical Chinese deck in a mildly-amusing box.

Few new additions, and another deck I haven't taken some pics of yet. Do like the Borderline deck, came out real nice.

Some quick pics of the other deck I got, they're bridge sized and were released by a company that does decorative gun engraving. All the courts are holding various arms and decorated In the same style as their engravings. (Also I apologize for the blurry cell pics)

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
I got these in last week, they are individual cards from the Hive deck. They are all signed by Brendan. The court cards have metallic accents which he added using silver or gold metallic ink sharpies (I think that's what he used). The rest of the cards have custom drawings also done with the same metallic ink. The backs of the cards are all signed and numbered X/54. I got 6 red back cards and 6 blue back cards. They arrived in individual plastic sleeves. The illustrations are awesome, especially the dinosaur ace of diamonds. Sorry for the cell phone pics.

That reminds me of an old Yiddish saying. Cleaned up a bit, it translates to:

Nope, it looks like Cherry or Mahogany, although I don't remember seeing either - maybe not. Whatever it is polishes up just awesome! Anything old world gets me, thus these and the Uusi goodies. Hard to find any more, no matter what price - the GW case was a bargain for real wood these days, smooth as can be. Looks like it was hand oiled yesterday!RSLancastr wrote:Not "junk" atall - nice little haul there, Mike!Mike Ratledge wrote:These from Uusi - Redux silvered, Light Pagan gilt.
